Hello again everyone,

I did fineshed my spell kit on Tuesday last week, what a relief......
I thought I will thank everyone that help me in my question and also to those that indirectly were of help (for I have been reading a lot in this forum), and just wanted to share that I've had the most wonderful experience using the LM products.

It practically has been about a month or so since I started working on my problems; had a reading with Miss Cat (God Bless her), and I have been able to see results from my work, now take into consideration that I have not background in rootwork, magick or any type of conjure work whatsoever , I am just a customer.

I just followed some threads that seemed to give me some educated information on what I was trying to understand, and it did help me
very much. Thanks to all of you for being so easy to talk to, so honest and so good and loving that made me feel that I was part of a community I was just loggin in.

I still have work to do, but just like I said it took time to get were I was, and it will take time to make it right.

good day,
i need to do a hyssop bath and when I picked up the ingredients the store clerk said I should not do the bath during that time of the month. Seeing as how i did a hot foot spell and Lm always cautions to do this bath after. I have 2 questions 1. Is this a true fact ( about the period?) (sorry if I gross anyone out) 2.how long do I have after I have finished the spell to do the bath before I receive backfire from not doing it yet (the bath) ? I haven't done the bath yet afraid of doing something wrong. That time of the month has not finished. I have searched all over the internet but there is nothing stating that fact so I am trying to clarify.

I really wouldn't worry about what advice a "store clerk" gave you. Go ahead with the bath.

There is no "backfire" from not doing it. It is a traditional cleansing bath.

Seeing how your post was back in November, this reply may be late in coming but perhaps it might be useful for future inquisitors.

The reason the store owner warned you not to use it during your period is because one of the medicinal effects of hyssop is that it increases blood flow to the pelvic area. As a tea, it is sometimes used by women to regulate menstrual cycles and even bring on menstruation. It can also help ease cramps as well (b/c many times cramps are caused by poor circulation down there). In large doses, it can cause too much blood flow and in the case of pregnant women, cause miscarriages. I wouldn't worry too much about using it in a bath because the amount in the LM packet is small and you are not ingesting it. You're simply supposed to pour it over your head...just don't stay in the tub for too long.

I want to add one thing about this thread because its something that many of my older clients have shared with me--in many cases it is pretty traditional for a woman to take a Hyssop or other cleansing type bath right after her time of the month is over. You can find parallels to this in many religious traditions where women traditionally bathe to signify the end of their menses and their refreshed and cleansed state.

I have just completed a hyssop and rue/salt bath and I feel fantastic afterwards. As a capricorn moon person with alot of water in my chart I accumulate alot of negativity easily and I was wondering how often would you guys personally recommend cleansing with hyssop? Should I just bathe regularily with florida water soap as an in between maintenance ritual?

Hyssop for after working a break up spell - I'd do simple cleansing like a salt bath at the end of my working everyday then the hyssop bath on the last day.

I would do it everyday. Think of it like this, if you made a big ol' mudpie and smacked someone in the face with it and got away, well you still got mud all over you. Same idea, you're working with some nasty stuff in a break up spell, and doing something pretty nasty yourself, so cleanse everyday, you wouldn't want to walk around with spiritual mud all over you, would you?

cabriellenil's idea is also good. It doesn't have to be a hyssop bath everyday, but you must keep clean while you do this and when its all said and done the last bath should most definitely have hyssop in it.

Once I've completed my hyssop bath and pour it out my car window, I know I can't look back, but does it also have to be poured out at a crossroads?
Does it have be done during sunrise or sunset, depending on reason for cleansing?

the answers to your question are on the first page of this thread (2nd post in the thread, posted by Miss Cat in response to a similar question by jwmcclin). In a spiritual baths for cleansing (regardless of reason), one usually works prior to sunrise and disposes of the water at the crossroads at sunrise (wether out of your car window or on foot makes no difference, it's the cross-roads part, the sunrise part and the not looking back part that count).

I really don't care if it's ethical or not just so long as it gets me what I want.

I really don't take the time to think things through.

Anyway after I did a specific spell I did have a rash of bad luck.

I don't want to dismantle the spell but I just don't want to keep the consequences.

My questions:

How do I cleanse myself from sin or this bad luck or whatever you want to call it?

Is there anyway that I can possibly keep the spell but clean away the bad luck and negative energies involved?

Are there any herbs that I can use as a substitute for rue and hyssop, neither of which I have. (I read that rosemary and a pinch of black pepper can be used as a substitute for rue, but what can be used as a substitute for hyssop? I read that lavender can be used but I don't have any lavender.)

Curious Kate, when we perform spells, we generally follow a time-honoured order of business. For instance to cast a curse or to jinx someone or cross them up, we prepare to perform the justified spell of vengeance, then cast it in a justified manner, then clean up after our work (not to remove the spell, as you thought -- but rather to get the mess out of your house, you know, like cleaning the dishes after you cook dinner!) and then bathe with Hyssop and recite Psalms 51 to remove any sin from possibly asking for something out of line, just from bad-temperedness instaead of from a position of justification.

If you cannot follow this sequence, perhaps because casting a justified curse is all too new to you, i suggest you hire one of the rootworkers at AIRR who does ten-minute readings for ten dollars to talk you through the work step by step until you get the picture.

As for offering you "substitutes" for Rue and Hyssop, well, in the first place, Hyssop is as popular as it is for ONE REASON -- because it is cited BY NAME in Psalms 51, the very Psalm recommended to you for taking off sin, so, no, there is no substitute for that.

The idea of substituting Lavender for Rue is ridiculous. too. Lavender is for friendship and love, especially gay love -- but Rue is used to protect against the evil eye and it is very popular in Mediterranean and Latin American countries.

The idea of substituting Red Pepper and Red Pepper for Rue makes what i call "half-sense," because Red Pepper and Red Pepper are employed for protection -- but the concept of protection associated with Red Pepper and Black Pepper comes from another culture (African and African-American) and the protection they offer is largely against foot track magic. So Red Pepper and Black Pepper are not a "substitute" for Rue but rather an entirely different protection herb combination from an entirely different area of the world for an entirely different condition. A better substitute for Rue in its role as an evil eye protector is Aspand (called "Syrian Rue") -- it is from the Middle East and South Asia and is also used against the evil eye.

What do each of you do with the remainder of the white candles that you have lit during the bath?

I put them out so as to not burn down my bathroom whilst taking the bath water to the crossroads.

I then relit them with a prayer and let them burn completely down in a neutral area in my home while I did the house and altar cleaning. I suppose I'll wrap the little bit of remaining wax in a white cloth and throw it into a crossroads, too.

Thoughts, anyone?

Thanks everybody that added to this thread. I learned some new things.

There are 2 ways that I use hyssop:

Like others on the thread, I boil water, add hyssop, then add to bath water, then walk past the white candle. This is for purification/consecration and is generally aimed at dealing with my own personal inner challenges. For cleansing myself from toxins picked up from other people, I use Rue Herb.

The other way I use the hyssop is to make a paste with it. Using mortar and pestle, I grind the hyssop with coconut powder and add a little milk. I kind of work it into a paste and smear myself while standing in the bathtub. I do not believe this is a hoodoo practice, but my people in Equatorial Guinea (West Africa) do it this way.

Fullmoondiva, there are different opinions on this. I was taught to throw uncrossing, jinx-killing, cleasning type bath water to the East at Sunrise because evil cannot stand the Light. The Light of the Sun (Light of the Son) will destroy the evil. But later in life I met a rootwork who said to throw to the West at sunset to carry the evil away. Both make sense to me, but I want evil destroyed not carried away, so I follow what I was originally taught-- but I would not judge a person for throwing to the West at sunset. Since you are using Miss Cat's products, I would follow Miss Cat's directions.

Frey: Well, you have come to a message board for people practicing the TRADITIONAL work that is Hoodoo. We have some great set ways of traditionally and effectively getting rid of remains. The symbolic nature of carrying your problems away and casting them into the crossroads for removal is as important to the work as the actual bath you speak of. Can you let the bath water just go down the drain, coating your pipes, mentally staying with you? Yes you COULD do that, but you would not be properly carrying out the work we follow here. It is the same for many people who say they worked a spell and then just threw out all the remains in their trash with along with some cigarette butts and used diapers! You say that this may be a "throwback to a time when people bathed in a tub in front of a fire, which they could pick up and throw out in the backyard afterwards"? You are completely correct. As 99% of the Hoodoo we practice also comes from that "throwback" period.

I wanted to know how important this was to the practice of spiritual bathing. And judging by your answer, I suppose it is important, and I will try to work it into my cleansing bath.

keeping yourself well cleansed and protected is one of the best ways to stay clear from others' roots. Although not strictly hoodoo, you could watermark your photos with a protection/reversal sigil or seal.

for a hyssop bath (or any herb bath) you want to brew a strong tea. Generally, I like a triple strength brew to bathe in, or 1 tbsp. of herb / cup of water.

However, with hyssop, it is also common to drink some of the tea, and that tea should be made regular strength, just like any herbal tea.

Recitation of Psalms 51 generally accompanies a hyssop tea bath.

I just wanted to know if I can use the glass encased offeratory candles as the two candles on each side of my tub during the hyssop bath cleansing after dark work. If so, how long do I let them burn after stepping out of the tub. Do I leave them there burning until they burn out or pinch them out after I step out of the tub? Thanks.

I use a combination of hyssop, rue and agrimony. It seems to take care of all of the reasons you might have unintentional spiritual "ick" on you - the hyssop for those things you have done yourself (and let's face it, we're not entirely guilt free in most situations), the rue is cleansing in general and then the agrimony will turn back anything placed on you by someone else. I made a teabag full and pour some hot water over it and pray a Psalm while it steeps. Sometimes I do this the evening before I take the bath and then dilute it in the bathwater. Doing the ritual as described above.

I just use tealights or 4" white altar lights.

With the tealights, when they are done, they are GONE. The aluminum cups they come in can go into the household recycling, as they are aluminum.

With the 4" altar lights, i burn these in the usual small star candle holders and they usually (not always) burn out to nothing. If any wax is left, i would bury it in the front yard. Purity is always nice to keep around the home. I would re-use the star holders indefinitely, of course. (I have some i have been using for ten years or more.)

Hello all,

I'm a little confused about a cleansing bath with Hyssop. I know I can take a spiritual bath for up to 15 mins. But, I'm confused on how to do it. Someone stated on this forum that you're suppose to cleanse while standing up in the tub. Another person said you're suppose to sit down and soak in the tub.

I would like to know which is the correct way? Or is either way fine?

Do i mix the tea I prepare to the bath tub and soak in the bath tub - like a usual bath (not shower).
Or is the tea added to water in a bucket and then you take the water from the bucket with a mug and pour it over you so the water goes down the drain as you pour it over you?

I am confused because one post says pour the water from head to toe and other post says use a wash cloth dipped in hyssop bath water on yourself only upwards.

Should I throw the basin along with bath water at the cross roads or just the water? (Probably a dumb question..sorry...but if i take it in a small plastic container, i can throw it as well.)

Where can I get spring water or rain water?
Can I use regular tap water?

Tradiionally, a hyssop bath is a pouring bath, not a soaking bath. You would pour it over your head an odd number of times (3 for instance) while reciting the 51st Psalm. I would suggest stopping your tub, so that you can collect sone of the bath tea, for disposal.

You wash upwards to draw things to you. As a hyssop bath is used to cleanse yourself of sin, washing downwards is appropriate.

No dumb questions. You need only throw the water. There's no reason to litter.

If you can't collect natural water, you can buy spring water from most grocery stores. Tap water isn't ideal, but it'll do in a pinch.
