Not hoodoo, but pretty to look at ...

A short illustrated page on modern Turkish evil eye bracelets went up
tonight. It the newest portion of the larger Lucky W Amulet Archive
site covering the evil eye belief and illustrating charms that people
wear for protection against the evil eye.

Check it out at

Check the page, Cat. There are 2 "p"s on the beginning of the word "pumpkin."

(Thanks. I'll fix it. --cat)

Also, have another look at the tranparent "baby pink" bracelet. It seemed more lavender to me, but that could just be the light I was in. After all, Diana's glasses make some yellow things look pink to her. :D

Carin

(I laid them against white paper in the sunlight -- they do look lavender against some skin tones -- but baby pink against white paper. Maybe i'll call 'em "baby pink lavender." See ya tomorrow! --cat)

hi all,

it occurs to me, when reading and hearing somewhat about your discussion on necklaces and breakage (taking hits) that there are a variety of ways to look at calamity or extremity of circumstance as a magical result.

for example, i have been wearing a chain of steel from my security guard post duty years ago. it contains in its circle a Tibetan Gau with a sliver of my pact with the Devil. it also loops through the Eye of Agamotto, and supports but does not contain the One Ring of the Tolkien trilogy.

recently i squeezed into the barn to get some equipment and peeled some of this Amulet of the AEon off of my body without knowing it. walking into the house, kneeling on the floor, pieces of the whole fell in front of me and i noticed them. the One Ring and the closed Gau hit the floor off their chain for the first time since they've been paired. I picked them up immediately, curious.

feeling around my robes i did not see the chain or the Eye of Agamotto, so pocketed the others. in front of the barn just as i spotted the Eye of Agamotto inside the doors i found the chain around my neck and collected them all together.

it wasn't, in my mind, any kind of 'hit' that this amulet had taken as i saw it. it was just a repercussion of circumstance and flesh, the passing chance of falling objects. however, as i repaired the chain by removing the broken 2 bead-links from the connector and re-assembling it as it always has been, i considered the value of those broken links. it reminded me of the broken chains we save in the shop, from the rabbit's feet. we enclose them with the Break Up Spell Kit, as i recall. it is very helpful.

so, like the foxtail that once lodged itself in Eris the Doggess of Discord's ear requiring a veterinary visit which i saved, i saved this pair of steel bead-links too, and will consider how they might be used for purpose it seems uniquely qualified. saving significant bits and pieces of the cosmos, one may find their application in magical endeavours. I tried to do my homework that way, by using excess of the four-leaf clovers from the herb drying assignment for the homework Oil and Bag (and focussing on lucky things familiar to me). building and interweaving is an efficient way to engage spellcasting. the combinations of things sometimes the more likely to succeed.

the most stupendous spell failures might have as part of their trash the makings of beautiful projectiles one may aim toward enemies. the sweetest gift from a dear relative may become the most potent lever to effect healing, catalyze generosity on a wider level, or bring through association a grander love and life.

I want to purchase a small charm of The Hamsa. Also, whats the best way to wear it -- on a chain or colored rope? Around my neck or wrist? Thank you!

LuckyMojo has a wide selection of charms for protection of the Evil eye. You can see there Amulets here: http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatamulets.html, as for how to wear it, I have no idea if it matters. I've never had occasion to need a charm like that but I'm sure someone here will be able to tell the best way to wear it.

Hope that helps

We sell many styles of hamsa hand charms, as well as eye-bead and eye charms, in everything from glass to stamped metal to filligree. There is no one way to wear such a charm -- although in my experience the most popular ways are as a necklace or on a key ring.

Recently, on a trip to Brazil, I was given a pendant which looks like an arm
and a fist with the thumb between the first two fingers. The man who gave
it to me stated that it was for good luck and that I should wear it often.
I didn't think much about it until yesterday when I met a man from Portugal
wearing the same pendant. I asked him about it and he said that it was to
ward off the evil eye. My question for Cat is, have you come across this (I
searched on your archives and couldn't find it...maybe I'm using the wrong
name) and if so, could you shed some light on where this amulet originated
from (and if it truely has an evil eye meaning)?

Thank you,
Sarah

i find it depends where you need the protection.
i keep a blue eye (traditional greek evil eye charm) glued to a small mirror hidden on the outside of my home and another from my rear view mirror.
a necklace would be good if you feel the need most at the office or walking around.

Thank you :D I'm going to place an order soon for a couple of the amulets at LM. I plan to wear one on a necklace, hang on from the mirror in my husband truck and my car and also put one outside the house. Thanks again for all the responses :)

Check out some of the tiny eyes and eye in hand from Turkey (they're not Hamsa, but still evil eye protection) that can be sewn on clothes too, for your kids, V. I am going to get some of those for my whole family and to save a lot of sewing, I am going to get the bent tiny safty pins for buttons that you don't want to wash.

I have a very good longtime friend that is with the military overseas and I was wondering what the best option would be in terms of what spell to cast in order to protect him for the next year or so from harm over there.

Any help is always much appreciated.

I would perform a protction spell, but not simply a long-distance good-wishes spell -- use the altar time to fix a mojo for him to carry or anoint and pray over a talisman of safety.

Protection spells are here
http://luckymojo.com/fierywall.html
and here
http://www.luckymojo.com/protectionspells.html

Mojo bags, including several for protection, are described in detail here
http://luckymojo.com/mojo.html
here
http://luckymojo.com/jomo.html
and here
http://luckymojo.com/nationsack.html

Talismans are all over the Lucky Mojo site, but there is an entry portal to them at the Lucky W Amulet Archive, here
http://luckymojo.com/luckyw.html
and specifically protective talismans are listed here

I recently returned from a year in Iraq. While I was there, I had many little things for protection. One of them was a bag containing graveyard dirt from a person whose spirit agreed to help me, some personal concerns, and a piece of ginger. This was fed with Kananga Water every week on Sunday. I also laid down brick dust and salt at my quarters and office, since those were the places I spent the most time. We received rocket attacks quite often where I was, and I was always at the other end of the FOB. I liked having something to physically carry, so I definitely agree with Cat on that one!

Also, let me know if you have any questions about deployment or anything else military-related; I'd be glad to help.

J's mention of graveyard dirt reminded me that one very good way of working some protective magic around your friend is getting the grave yard dirt of another soldier--preferably one that was related to your fried, that loved your friend and would protect your friend while they are in the service. I come from a military family and most of the men in my family who served kept mementos of ancestors who had also served on their persons at all times, including their graveyard dirt.

take care,

To complicate things, he doesn't actually believe in this stuff and also he's already over there. Perhaps I can trick him into carrying something or at least have over there with him?

I don't think he has anyone else in the military in his family. Actually I'm sure of it because in my family pretty much every male except my father was in the military at some point and I remember this topic coming up and he had none which I found really weird. I have TONS of ancestors and one specific one, I was particularly close with. Sadly he's not buried anywhere near me. My mom's father was in the military and he's buried close, but he died before I was born so I've never met him.

The fact he probably wouldn't carry a mojo remains a problem. He'd probably humor me if I sent him something I said was my good luck charm or even just a good luck charm.

Any specific good luck charms that seem particularly appropriate? He's an odd guy ... if I found something like an authentic old coin, he'd probably carry it just because he thought it was interesting ... so that's the kind of guy we're dealing with. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

We carry old coins for protection and talismans from many cultures in the shop. Folks like 'em a lot.

AMU-IND-KAVA Amulet Nepal Kavacha, Silver, 1.75" Amulet Pendant $26.50 (It's hollow; fill it with your prayers and glue it shut!)

AMU-ITA-MEGM Amulet Italy Catholic Pewter Holy Medal: Guardian Angel / St. Michael $2.50
(Michael is the Patron of those in the military and police, and is a supreme protector spirit.)

AMU-USA-ANGE Amulet USA Guardian Angel Coin, Brass, Obama $3.50
(Same lucky talisman Barack Obama carries; guardian angel for protection.)

AMU-USA-PTPR Amulet USA Pewter Amulet Talisman of Protection, strung on black cord $7.50
(Solomonic style.)

There are literally hundreds more in the shop. Check 'em out!

The Master Book of Candle Burning has a chapter named "Candleburning During Wartime" and Gamache gives a really pretty working for someone who's being called up. He even gives an alternate handling if the person in question has already left, it's called "Ritual by Proxy" and it's on pg. 35.

LM carries it here. I love that book.

I've been a sleepwalker all my life, and now that I'm living alone I'm a bit scared that something bad will happen. I found myself sleeping on the stairs last night, and I might have had a bad fall while sleepwalking back in December. I started searching the site, but I didn't come across anything specifically for sleepwalking. Is there an amulet I can keep with me or anything that I can use to keep myself safe while sleeping? I already have fiery wall of protection powder, but I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to use it in this case.

Thank you all so much! You are all so helpful and patient on this board.

First off, have you seen a doctor? Somnambulism is a condition that may be caused by something more serious. Medications such as benzodiazepines can be prescribed for some to keep them from endangering themselves. As an at-home remedy, you can attach a bell or an alarm to your bedroom door that should wake you before you get too far.

Now, as to rootwork, I would make a mojo to keep in the bed and sleep with that combined calming and sound-sleep with protection (perhaps leaning toward protection in travel). Mugwort primarily comes to mind, in addition to allspice, frankincense, rosemary, ash leaves, comfrey, salt, wormwood, and some of your hair.

Also, I would not recommend any candle work to a sleepwalking client. ;)

A mojo is probably a good idea. I'm wondering if maybe there are any charms or amulets to protect sleeping children that might help in my case? Or if there are any psalms that I might use? I don't remember seeing anything about psalms to protect against sleepwalking in my magical psalm book.

I was told by someone that I have a dark force that has been with me since a child. Is there anything that I can do at home to help cast off this force and offer some protection or is it best to seek a professional cleansing? I had thought about a protection amulet and the use of Cast away Evil oil. What would be the best way to use these? Any help would be greatly appreciated. ~Thanks~

Well, the silver Mercury dime is a great talisman for this. That can be found here: http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatamulets.html

I would do an Uncrossing Spell kit though. You can find those here: http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatspells.html

I got one of the evil eye protection bracelets from Lucky Mojo (the rainbow-colored one), and put it on my right wrist. I am certain of this. I had my reasons for putting it on that wrist. It's been on my wrist for about a week and it was on my right hand. I never took it off...I certainly would have remembered if I did because it was so hard to get on in the first place! (It took me about an hour.)

A few minutes ago, I looked down and it was on my left wrist. It had been on the right just a few minutes before; I remember because I was washing my hands. Suddenly it's on the left. I am really, really freaked out about this right now because there's no way in hell I took it off and put it back on. I was busy cleaning when I noticed it switched wrists. What on earth?

I don't know what to tell you. But you have an evil eye bracelet and they are used for protection, so whatever is happening, I would assume that it has to do with protecting you.

Wow, if i'm not mistaken these are the bracelets from turkey yes? Did your bracelet come with annointing oil or instructions or was it consecrated before being sent to you at LM?

I am curious about the use of evil eye charms. I am wondering if the use of one is to stop jealousy or just the effects of jealousy on you from jealous types. I was sort of under the impression that the "effect" was the evil eye issue not the jealous person themself so that would lead me to think the person is left alone, jealous feelings and all intact, and the wearer of the charm is just unaffected by their issues.

Could someone tell me if I have this right or correct me if I'm wrong?

Thanks,
Fay

You are correct -- apotropaic charms against the evil eye are meant to turn aside, reflect, or bounce off the effects of jealousy. They are not curses against the jealous person, who may not be a bad person, just momentarily envious.

I think that the focus should be on the symbolism of the different hands. Are you right handed or left handed? Also, you receive with your left hand and you give with your right. That is why during graduation ceremonies you receive the degree with your left and shake with your right. So the left hand is significant. Perhaps, you weren't getting the full effect from the bracelet on your right hand. And I'm pretty sure that they came directly from Turkey.

On the same subject, I've always kind of wondered if people born with blue eyes have built-in protection against jealousy.

Hahaha no. Most of my family is blue-eyed in one shade or another and we're just as susceptible.

Actually I have read that in culture where blue eyes were not the norm blue eyed people were thught to inflict the evil eye on others, of course the books may have been off base but it makes scene to me.

Currently I am staying at my mothers house for the summer, and my mother has a large collection of Turkish evil eyes from her travels to the country. About a month ago, my boyfriend at the time knocked the an evil eye off of the entrance to our home and broke it. A few days later my boyfriend had serious doubts about our relationship and suddenly decided he wanted to leave me for someone else he just met the day before. My question is, can a broken evil eye have influence this type of event (our breaking up)? If so, what can I do to fix the situation of a broken evil eye and its implications on my life?

I will just say flat out the relationship i had with my now ex boyfriend was flawless. We never fought, we had good communication, and we had been together for sometime and planned to stay together. Like I said above, all of a sudden the next day after breaking the evil eye he wanted to leave with no earlier warning signs and the girl he ran off with he had just met the next day after breaking the eye. I see no reason for him to have run off so suddenly, thats why it's important for me to understand the implications of a broken evil eye on the situation.

Thanks for any input!

How did you guys dispose of the broken evil eye?

Have you considered talking to a good spiritual worker/reader about this? Which is what I'd do straight away if if I were you. It's too big and complex a situation for us folks here to 'guess', and you'd need some rather detailed insights from divination.

I haven't disposed of it yet because it's not mine to dispose of and it's my mothers favorite so despite my attempts she doesn't want to get rid of it. Which creates somewhat of an issue. Any specific disposal methods? I may be able to convince her to dispose of it. It's just my spiritual beliefs are different from hers adding to the situation. I am very new when it comes to this stuff, but I have been researching and trying to expand my knowledge.

I have made an appointment with a spiritual reader for this coming Friday. I have never spoken with a spiritual worker before, but I am hoping it will help.

I appreciate the feedback.

Since the Evil Eye was not yours, the boyfriend situation has nothing to do with it. Having a broken Evil Eye talisman is not helpful to have around though. If there are a collection of Evil Eye talisman around, a broken one will not be that problematic. I would keep the broken Evil Eye in a special container in a dark part of my closet.

Sounds like your boyfriend wanted out for a while and the breaking of the Evil Eye just accelerated it. The Evil Eye might have been keeping the relationship together.

How do you select an anti-evil eye? color? religious association? cultural association?

Yeah, those are all good. Keep in mind tho that most evil eye charms are meant to be worn openly where others can see so picking one that you think looks nice or that you feel drawn to is also valid.

Humph! Thanks Turnsteel, I was looking at the cats eyes. I am considering purchasing a cat's eye rosiery. Same result? I just don't know I am considering a lot of possibilities...should I wear it personally, leave in office, leave at home? Just considering right now.

I'm unfamiliar with the beads you mentioned, where on Luckymojo are they? If you are talking about something you bought at some other occult or "new-age" shop I'm afraid you came to the wrong place for help as this forum is here to help people with LuckyMojo products.

I have always been taught that when an amulet to ward off the evil eye breaks, you do not glue it back together. It has taken a "hit" for you and should be disposed of in a ritually appropriate manner and a new amulet should be purchased.

take care,

splitpea,

The beads would be those with eyes on them or they would be blue in colour -- or both:

Protective talismans and spells are listed here

The amulets themselves are for sale here:

I have a sister who is not my blood but she is still my family and i love her very much. In my eyes she is MY guardian angel and she has ALWAYS been there for me and stood by my side. She is my only true family and i feel like she and I were supposed to have found each other because without her my other half would be missing. Anyway its almost her birthday and i asked her what she REALLY wanted and she said she wishes she had more strength. I know there are are LM products that can give her that and i was wondering if there was a good combination of things that i could give her to be able to provide all the strength that is possible. I don't like people messing with her and there are a lot of cruel people on this Earth that do and i want something that can help her against people like this and be able to provide her with the strength and courage that she would need when she encounters these sorts of people. I also want some sort of protection for her. So if anyone could recommend a good combination of things that would help her i would REALLY appreciate it and i think it would be the best present she could ever get. :D

Why not browse the amulet archive and see if something sticks out at you? You could then give it to her with some van van and/or protection oil to dress it with. Jewellery is always nice, empowered more so.

I hope that at least gives you a place to start.

Also, I advocate giving her a big hug and telling her how much you appreciate her love and friendship. Because that in itself is a gift and will give her the strength of your friendship.

If I didn't want any one to see me wearing protection amulets or charms, will keeping the amulets/charms in my pockets just as effective...?

Like as with Hamsa, I thought by people seeing it is the best way to protect themselves..

Please advise me, thank you...
