prvteye123: Some workers will work through Mercury Retrograde and some will halt all work, it is a matter of personal preference. Some get hit hard by it and some don't give it any credence at all. If it is a already on-going work you may need to just work right through the retrograde...I'd rather take that option then stop the work cold.

If Gemini and/or Virgo (these signs are ruled by Mercury) are prominent in one's chart, then the effect of Mercury Retrograde may be felt more strongly.

I will be doing my LM Breakup Vigil Candle tonight which is still a waning moon. It will be a New Moon in one more day. Is it a waste of time starting this candle?
Can I light more than one Vigil at a time for a powerful punch !? ? Can you also please recommend the best order to start these LM Vigil candles for A BREAKUP AND THEN RECONCILLIATION once waxing moon is about to start:
Breakup, Follow me Girl, Come to me, Reconcilliation, Healing miracle (for healing of bad memories I thought ?)
Thanks !!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Hey, I was wondering if I could get some input on some basic astrological remediation ideas. When I was on the radio show a few weeks earlier, I was advised to make an astrological talisman from an iron spike plus several other metals, in order to strengthen certain planets in my chart. Once I get this talisman made, I will keep it on an altar and regularly anoint it with some oils (e.g., Power, Master, etc.) The iron was for Mars, plus I was also advised to wrap it with wires of gold (for the Sun), silver (Moon), and copper (Venus). So, I guess my first question would be: I also want to include a wire for Mercury, since that planet is negatively aspected for me, as well, so can anyone recommend a good Mercury metal?
Also, I want to make some baths for each of these planets, and I was thinking of the following combinations, for each planet:
Sun bath crystals + Crown of Success and Van Van (or maybe Frankincense or Healing)
Mercury bath crystals + King Solomon Wisdom and Clarity
Venus bath crystals + Bewitching and Vetiver
Moon bath crystals + Healing and Blessing
Mars bath crystals + John the Conqueror and Crucible of Courage
In each case, I would mix the crystals together, take a series of five baths (5 Sundays for the Sun, etc.), and save the leftover sixth of the crystals for making a special spray. For most of these, I would simply take them at dawn, in the usual manner. For Venus, however, I was actually thinking of doing them on Friday afternoons/early evenings, so I can have that relaxed, end-of-the-day feeling -- and then pour some of the bathwater into my front yard, to draw those Venusian influences into my life.
Your input is appreciated, thanks!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
For Mercury I would use a blue colored wire - you can find them in just about any craft store. They usually have a tin compound in them to make them so bendy. I would pick blue because it is associated with mercury in many alchemical texts. Anoint it with a little mercury oil to charge it up and it should be good to go. The tin in the wire will also resonate a little with Jupiter so you could get two in one.
I would personally use Psychic Vision bath for the Moon.

First off, I'm brand new here, so apologies if this has already been answered. This forum is massive and a bit overwhelming.
I'm preparing a spell that needs to be cast during a New Moon as it is waxing. How precise is the date? For best results should I start the spell ON the New Moon? Or is any point between New and Full a good time?
Thank you!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Hi, quick question about waning vs waxing moon and the use of double action candles: the black part of the candle could be used to first get rid of negativity, which is best done during waning moon. However, the coloured (or white) part of the candle then is used for inviting the positive, which is usually done during waxing moon. Suppose there are two ways of doing the spell timewise - all in one-go or over e.g.7 days. What would you recommend regarding starting times for each of these options? I understand Hodoo is not strict about moon phase timing though for those who wish to use it, would you suggest starting at waning moon, continue until black bit finishes for a few days, the waiting until waxing to do the rest? Thank you!
Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
one more technical question - would you write multiple names on a reversal candle? would you put multiple dolls in a mirror box representing different enemies?
Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Hello, Konstanta,
First, as you have already stated, every practitioner practices Hoodoo just a tad bit differently.
I burn my Double action candles during the waning moon. And I burn it in its entirety.
Some practitioners don't use the moon phases at all. And, even though I do, if it's an emergency, then the moon phase doesn't make a difference to me.
As far as the rest of the timing, it is really up to you.
This forum has links to: spell timing, moon phases
And time of day or night, etc., etc.
And, you probably already knew this but let me give you this link anyway: www.luckymojo.com/moonphases.html
So, try browsing and see what others do. Maybe something will speak to you on this subject.
I would not put multiple dolls in a mirror box spell. It weakens the spell and may cause other problems
If you have many names for your reversal candle, you could just write out (in the manner that is recommended) :"My Enemies" <---or something akin to this verbiage.
Good luck to you and I hope all works out in your favor

Dear Miss Aida - thank you loads for your reply. Although there are no strict rules about moonphases in Hodoo as you mention, it is nice to hear the approach of experts. Thank you also for your reply regarding the mirror box and candles. will definitely use individuals. all the best!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Konstanta, I agree with Miss Aida regarding the burning of reversal candles. In my opinion it is better to finish that working in one shot, regardless of the moon phase, rather than leave that energy hanging out there undone. Another approach might be to start the candle right before the new moon and have it finish right after (depending on the type of candle and how long it is going to burn). This gives you the chance to have the waning and waxing moon energies all in the manner of a few days.
I also agree with Miss Aida on the mirror box. I have found that when it comes to reversal work there is typically one "ring leader" who is causing the trouble and if you can stop them the other people will lose their steam as well. If you can pinpoint a main trouble maker you can start a mirror box for that person and see if more is necessary.
Best of luck!

I was reading through the Black Folder, going over the information on Honey Jars. On p45 it tells you to burn a candle on your jar every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I was wondering why those days in particular?
Thank you for the help and information!

Hi Lady Tatsu,
Keep in mind that not every honey jar would be worked on those days, but it is a popular combo for working honey jars. The reason behind this is that Mondays (associated with the moon) is a good day for family, fidelity, femininity and marriage affairs. Wednesday (Mercury) is excellent for communication and swift action. Friday is associated with Venus and is auspicious for all affairs of Love. Mama Micki's list about 4 posts up is also a good reference list to consult.
Hi more rainbows,
Sunday is a good day as it brings in blessings and health. If possible, work by the waning moon to remove the unwanted conditions.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
I am hoping someone can answer this quickly as this is something I'd like to do tonight depending on the answer I get! I wanted to make a sort of sachet filled with love herbs and oils and powders... the idea was that it's something to rest my phone on to help draw my target to me. But I see that the moon is void of course! And I work by moon phases and believe that spells shouldn't be done during v/c. I hope this isn't a stupid question but is making such a sachet considered a spell? Since it's a sort of permanent artifact I see it as different... when I think of spells I think of candle magic and such. Please help! Thanks so much in advance, now I've got to go cook dinner!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Good Evening, ImA Balloon,
I'm pretty sure that you're safe!!
The void of course has more to do with communication aspects of a spell.
This sachet is going to be with you all the time. So, not to worry!
Sounds like a WONDERFUL sachet, By the way!
Take care!!

Oh that's good to hear! Thanks Ms. Aida and thanks for the compliment as well. I am certain it will smell wonderful as well, as I am going to feed it with Love Me and I simply adore the scent. It's so beautiful!
Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Hi All --
I'm thinking of making a spell bottle or maybe a mojo bag that both draws love and breaks love crossing simultaneously. I've been doing lots of love work for myself, and I've also had LMCC make me a lovely 3x Attraction Mojo (seeing that work on the professional level) and MISC burns candles... but man oh man, just when I think things are changing for me on the love and dating front, it all hits a wall. (Ex: last week I had three dates lined up! Met two. Great guys... and now, none are responding at all to any inquiry about a second date -- one even texted to say he had a new girlfriend now.)...this seems like the las t hurdle in my life I need to clear, and I just keep getting thwarted... *sigh*...
So... I have done a Cut and Clear (which was wonderful, what a great spell, thanks ms. cat), have been doing the lodestone love draw spell, and have the beginnings of a love container (haven't decided if it's a bottle of a bag yet) with appropriate love drawing herbs and oils... would any of you recommend putting uncrossing herbs, like agrimony and devil's shoestring in it as well, with the love draw materials, basically to kick this bad love luck? It just feels like these things need to work together for anything to change for me, but I really wanted to check in with the experts here about proceeding with this mixing. I'd be much obliged for a yea or nay, and recommendations for better ingredients if you all have any.
Thanks so much!

Are there any days that are 'unwise' to start candle magick? I read somewhere
that Tuesdays and Saturdays were 'bad' days to start a candle if you wanted
to 'bring in something' to you. Any thoughts on that?

Good Evening, MagicMurphy,
If this were me, I would do uncrossing work on myself separately. Entirely different spell work.
I would do that first. Then, go back to your love magic.
I really wouldn't mix the 2 spells together (although I do understand your intention).

Hope this helps.
Good luck to you and hope that you get many steady dates!

Good Evening Stargirl,
Some root workers go by the hands of the clock. Others don't.
Some root workers use planetary influences. Other don't.
Some root workers use days of the week. Others don't
Some root workers use moon phases. Others don't.
I suggest that you go to the search box in the upper right hand corner.
In the dark green area, there's a white search box.
Search: timing. Search days of the week. Search timing planetary. Search moon phases.
Then, make your own decisions about when to cast a spell.
I personally would not use Tuesdays or Saturdays to bring in love, money, etc. BUT if it were an emergency, I do whatever I can and negate all suggestions. But, that's just me.
Read through the forum. You'll learn A LOT!
Enjoy!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
A lot of my magickal community moans and groans when mercury retrograde comes around. All astrology is really about going with the flow, instead of against it. We constantly talk and talk and talk, and mercury retrograde is an invitation to be quiet and just listen. It's a great time for introspection and retrospection. Because I know that communication is often difficult during this time, I slow down, I chose my words very carefully and I am conscious about what I say. I did do some work to increase communication with myself and a guy I just met. I would like him to take me out, so I made the work very personal, very heart to heart and an open invitation. I think the key is not to fight it, learn to appreciate its gift by exploring the opportunities less verbal/mental communication gives us.
The need to do work comes up regardless of the stars, my advice is to be aware of what the heavens are doing, and formulate you spell in a manner that best utilizes the flow of the energy at hand. Above all, listen to your intuition. Your gut feeling will never steer you wrong.

Unless the work relates to Mercury specifically (literature, short trips, communication and communications technology) then you might want to hold off.
As you are doing love work, you should be find. As another poster indicated, you might want to take time to choose your words with your target a little more careful. Slow down, think about what you are saying, and don't take it personal if someone asks for clarification, or needs something repeated or confirmed.
I know of some people who take a red candle and dress it with mercury oil and burn it during a retrograde. Their theory is that the candle is to give energy to mercury power in their lives, so that the retrograde is stopped and turned around.
My own practice for dealing with mercury retrogrades is known as propitiation. Thinking of Mercury as a spirit, you make an offering to mercury to appease him so his harmful aspects are lessened or decreased. I came across this idea in Vedic astrology. You can apply it to other planets as well, as all planets (but not luminaries like the Sun and Moon) go retrograde. Although, personally, I do no think retrogrades are as risky an astrological time as other periods, like when a planet is in detriment or fall in a particular sign.

I was wondering about moon phases and void of courses...
I was going to do a simple candle spell today but looked at the moon phase and is currently in a Void of Course. Should I continue with the candle or wait til its over?

Some rootworkers work by the phases of the moon. Some don't. If you feel better about doing the spell when the moon moves to its' next sign, then go ahead and wait. If you need something to be completed now, you can work another way. I like to work by the clock. When the hands of the clock are going down from the top of the hour (towards the half hour mark) I work to push things away from me. From the half hour going up to the next hour I work to bring things towards me.
Good luck,

I have a question that I have been wondering about. I know that timing is everything when you are working with spells and blessings, so that they will work better for you. Are there particular times during the day or night to cast spells, and also for blessings too? Is there some kind of time chart for this, and where can I find it? I have heard that certain times of the day or night when you do spells or blessing, they are more powerful when you do them in that time frame...is that true?

I would greatly appreciate your help.

Hello Oldschoolgirl,
I am not Miss Cat but thought I might be able to make a suggestion. Besides doing some general uncrossing work on your self if this thing is really stubborn you may look into some blockbuster work. I would definitely want to check in with a reputable reader on the situation to get a good overview of exactly what is going on in order to know how best to proceed. I hope this is helpful and I am sure other people will also have suggestions for you. Peace~

Oldschoolgirl,
One thing I've noticed over the years is that bad luck teaches bad habits. A long string of failures in love can teach you to close yourself off from the world and desensitize you to opportunities to friendship and love.
Along with the Uncrossing and Blockbusting work and a good reading, work with Psychic Vision (for understanding the minds of others) and King Solomon Wisdom or Clarity (to understand yourself).
You can find all your supplies here:
Best of luck,
Miss Michaele

Hi Oldschoolgirl
I can definitely recommend lm healing products, they are great for healing yourself from past hurt and pain and maybe some attraction products to attract good things to you, chupporosa is good for bringing about genuine loving relationships too.

Hi Oldschoolgirl,
In addition to the excellent advice you've been given by both moderators and forum users, I've merged your post into the existing thread on love uncrossing which can give you some more ideas to work with.
Blessings.

Hello again oldschoolgirl,
I also just wanted to point out that you got a lot of responses to your question here and that just strikes me as a sign that you will end up successful. You are already getting lots of "love" from this forum for your work. One other thing is you can also post a prayer request to the crystal silence league (http://crystalsilenceleague.org/prayerrequests.html). Get all those prayers behind your work!
Peace~

Your Birth Star Influences and What They Mean, by Stanley Barrett
This 1940 popular occult classic teaches the beginner basics of Sun Sign Astrology, but even experienced astrologers love it because it is illustrated by the famous art deco artist and sculptor Lee Lawrie, who often used zodiacal motifs in his works of public art. At a time when many women hid their gender under a male pseudonym, the accomplished author, Gail C. Blakey, chose to be known as "Stanley Barrett." The original and rare first edition of this oversized introduction to popular astrology was published in a limited pallet of spot-colours and has been given a brand-new and gloriously full-colour treatment by the editor and restorationist Deacon Millett. A "coffee table astrology book" before such books even existed, "Your Birth Star Influences" is both a contemporary teaching manual and a brilliant example of mid-20th-century book styling.

Hi,
New member here, although I've been buying a ton of stuff from the store, and hope to take Cat's course in the near future
Love this forum, so much to read. I've been going through every page of 34 page-threads (etc) to try to learn as much as I can.
This is a persnickety question about timing, if you're trying to work by moon phases, which I do. I've searched online, both hoodoo or not, and am just confused about this small thing.
1) "New Moon"/Dark moon. If, for example, the new moon is scheduled tomorrow morning, Friday, at 4am EST, does it officially becoming waxing then? I've heard that the best time to do dark spells is on the New Moon/Dark Moon, so, if I'm on the tail end of a few break-up related things, and I really want to hammer them hard, I should try to finish before 4am Friday? The Saturn planetary hour also happens to end at 3:19am as well. Or does the "new moon"/dark moon considered all the way into Friday night?
I had a hint when reading cat's Black Folder, where she says if you're aiming for a full moon spell, on something requiring waxing (love drawing, other drawing spells), you should time it in the hours and days before the full moon officially hits. Once the full moon actually hits, does it then become waning? And does the same apply to the new moon passage?
I'm confused because I've read where the dark moon is really the 2-3 days before the "new" moon (and so probably I should have done something last night, and tonight's my last chance), but then they also say the new moon is "dark" until the sliver shows a couple days later.
2) The other thing I've read is that most say that to have a very strong spell, to try to do it on the full moon, even if it's a dark spell, for maximum effect. This may be a non-hoodoo thing, though. Should dark spells not be performed on the full moon at all, or it's ok once the time passes and that night, considered the full moon night (i.e. full moon is 3am on Thursday morning, but full moon night is really Thursday night), is ok to do a dark spell since it'll be starting to wane?
I started the Breakup Spell Kit on Friday night (actually, before dawn on Saturday morning, 6/14) of the full moon on Friday the 13th. My target is the groom of the candle (I'm trying to get rid of the woman), and while on the first day they melted evenly (she a little faster since she's shorter), on the subsequent days, he melted a lot faster, and left a lot of wax compared to her. I assumed at the time that her big skirt had more melting to do, but it still seemed he was faster.
It was an exhausting spell, sending all that cursing for 7 days, and when I buried the remains in a graveyard, felt relieved and lighter, and took two days off from spell-casting.
However the unevenness of the melting bothered me, so on Monday night (early Tues morning) this week, I started a divorce candle, in the center of a triangle that has 3 glass-encased vigil candles (DUME, Destruction, and Breakup), so I could keep the discord going (not that I know if it's going on....we had a fight and haven't spoken in three weeks).
I fell asleep after my prayer on the second night this week, and an hour or two later, woke up to find the divorce candle...his side was almost melted entirely into a puddle, while the bride had fallen forward due to his side and the middle candle part being just about melted away. She's pretty much intact, with some tears running down her side.
I'm going to guess from other posts that figural candles (like skulls) leave a lot of wax, but I find it interesting how much the groom has melted compared to her. He is very stubborn and loyal (although he's cheated on her, and she on him....I think they are just plain incompatible....long history of mutual hurt), so I'll have to do a red skull on him next time around, but it appears (if anything is happening) that this is affecting him more (he's more likely to break up, for all his protests...I thought he had feelings for me), and she is quite resistant. And powerful (he has said she's a powerful figure in his life). She appears to be a dominating person in the home life, from his remarks.
So observing this, I was tempted to start another divorce candle (I was hoping, having started on Monday, that all would be burnt by the new moon), but I decided to save it for next month, and in the meantime, hammer the dickens out of the bride by, on the dark of the moon, doing the following to her unmelted part.
She's already covered with breakup oil, goofer dust, and hotfoot powder, and I'm going to add DUME oil to her. Then I'm going to stick her full of pins (treating her as a doll baby), and then I'm going to hold her over flame until she melts herself. Since she appears to be resistant, I need to concentrate my efforts on her. This has been a long-term relationship, so it's going to take a lot of work on my part. So I thought the best time to do this would be in this dark moon/new moon period, before it starts to wax.
During the waxing period, I'm going to do a Reconciliation spell for him and me (if it arrives from LM), and if not that, then a Love Me, and a honey jar, and a Crucible of Courage vigil light for him.
Then, during next month's waning, I'll do a Black Skull on her, making her be evil to him, and a cloth doll baby as well. It appears I have to work harder to break her control over him.
Just as an fyi, the three dark vigil candles I'm burning are burning great. They haven't gone out, the Breakup and DUME candles are mostly clear (the Destruction a little hazy but you can still see through it. I haven't taken the labels off, though). There were a few pops from the DUME candle when it began, but nothing since. All three wicks are sitting in a great deal of liquid wax, but they haven't gone out, and the flames have been dancing mildly and moderately throughout.
Any thoughts? Most of all I would just like clarification on how to time new moon and full moon spell timing works, esp since I'm doing planetary hours too. The new moon/dark moon is particularly confusing to me.
Thank you for any advice!

Dear Miss Aida, which is the best time to do a mojo bag or a doll? I believe it should be done when there is a new moon, and be worked afterwards? Is it correct? If you feel that you need to pray to a saint and light a light to him/her, but it is not his/her day, then what? Say, if you feel you need to pray over a St-Martha 9 days novena, but it is not one of the Tuesdays, will you light it for few minutes and pray over, or you will absolutely wait the next Tuesday to light it and pray?
Thank you infinitely!!!
Thank you St-Anthony! Thank you St-Martha! Thank you St-Jude! Thank you St-Peter!

Alright, so I will be making a honey jar and dressing the candle with come to me and follow me boy before I light it.Since I want to bring this person back into my life, I plan on doing this around 12:30 tonight- technically Friday. I will wear some green socks lol.Am I missing anything? I have his hair and mine and will be working this until my red skull candle and other goodies arrive next week.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Hello, Dragonfly,
It depends on what type of Mojo hand and doll that I am making.
I make hate dolls during the waning moon and love dolls during the waxing moon. Most of my mojo hands are made during the waxing moon.
Every root worker is different. Every single one. Some root workers don't work with moon phases.
For me, if it's an emergency, I don't care what day it is, I'll summon the Saint.
Otherwise, I will wait until their day of the week.
Remember, this is JUST what I would do.
I wish you great success with your spell work
