Greetings from Ohio

Unread post by Sage Firehawk » Tue May 27, 2014 5:57 pm

Hello,
I'm excited to have discovered the Lucky Mojo and looking forward to making some friends and sharing in this forum! I recently started listening to the podcast about 2 weeks ago and have been devouring each episode while I work during the day.
I've been a practitioner of witchcraft for 6 years with an interest in occult subject matter since childhood. Originally from the hills of Kentucky, I was raised in a southern Protestant church which was very active in prayer and charismatic in worship and the use of spiritual gifts. In addition, having grandparents that were full of appalachian folk lore and remedies. Looking back, I think I've learned more about magical practice through my grandparents and the church, than I have from studying any grimoire or book of magic.
For the past few months I've developed a growing interest in hoodoo. It sort of feels like "coming home" as the art of conjure seems to fit so well with my practice. I'm really excited to continue learning, participating in this forum, and hopefully make some lasting friendships in the community.

Blessings,
Eric

Hi, Eric. Nice to meet you. My name is Nathan and I am also originally from the hills of Kentucky. Moved to California about ten years ago. I grew up Southern Baptist so hoodoo feels oddly like coming home for me as well. I remember when I started practicing magic, I "threw the baby out with the bath water" and basically renounced all my Christian practices. But hoodoo has brought a peace to me in regards to that, and I'm slowly being able to let go of my anger with Christianity and add practices such as Bible magic and the like back into my practice. Hoodoo, and also spiritualism, has felt more authentic to me than anything else. I guess Im just trying to say....Welcome home! Looking forward to getting to know you!

Nice to meet you Nathan! That sounds very similar to myself. I was raised Pentecostal, and so I do sort of feel at home learning rootwork with a perspective of biblical magic. It does just feel right and helping me reconcile my Christian roots with my spiritual practice. Look forward to chatting with you!
