Abrus and Ormosia Seeds Questions and Answers

Unread post by DocMurphy » Sun Jun 08, 2014 4:42 pm

Hi All!

Okay, a magical friend showed me necklace she had of what she called "peonia" or "peony seeds". I thought they looked a lot like Abrus seeds -- did some poking on the Lucky W Archive and saw they kind of look similar, but not really sure.

Are Abrus seeds and Peonia seeds the same thing? Or different? And well, if they are different, are they both lucky?

Curious about curios again. Thanks!

Peonia is a misleading Caribbean and South American name for Ormosia seeds, which resemble but are not the same as Abrus seeds. Another name for Ormosia is Huayruru. Another name for Abrus is Crab Eye. These plants are not related to Peony but are in the Pea and Bean family. See "Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic."

Abrus precatorius, also known as Crab's Eye, Lady Bug Bean, Precatory Pea, and Jequirity, is carried for good luck -- and we have them for sale at the Lucky Mojo Curio Co. shop in Forestville, California. These bright red beans are virtually camouflaged against our deep red walls! (Photo by Shelby O'Connelly.)

Lucky seeds and beans are just some of the many divinatory, magical, and symbolic items we carry in our herb department -- and, like an old-fashioned general store, we also stock a surprising array of unexpected goods of many kinds.
