Wylde's Introduction

Unread post by wylde » Wed Jan 28, 2009 11:44 pm

Hello I am happy I found this forum, ive been looking over the lucky mojo site since last spring, when I first started looking into hoodoo (and voodoo) again. Admittedly even after reading a few books and talking to some root workers I still consider myself a novice in this arena, however I have always been in the "craft" to a degree or another. My first introduction to "hexing" was from my grandmother, who taught me how to "hex" someone when I was 10. It works too, but its not the sort of thing to be taken lightly. My family also has alot of Mason's in it, but since I am female and my mother was never interested in the Masonic lodge ive never gotten involved directly with them.

I've studied many religions of all sorts in an attempt to find my place in this odd little petre dish we live in. I have been drawn to voodoo in the past, especially after reading some of Ray T. Marbroughs books, but alone i got no where, and eventually i let that sort of fall to the wayside, having even been actively discouraged by someone claiming to be a practitioner who is a friend. She made it a race issue, but I have never felt that any part of any craft is really solely racial. I am part of alot of races, I have many anglo ancestors, native american ones (Cherokee, Choctaw, Bedias), even have at least one African American "granny" somewhere back in the wood pile.

I bought my first book on hoodoo last summer, and have since gotten many lucky mojo products, and finally the hoodoo herb and root magic book by Catherine Yronwode which i am still reading (only had it a couple days now, but it is quickly becoming one of my new favorites.) I think I will work up to taking the class that she is offering if I am able to soon. It is something I feel drawn to, and I almost always go with my feelings on things like this.

I consider myself a pagan for lack of a better definition, mostly because I just dont really fit into anything I've come across completely. Both my mother and grandmother were (are, mom is still here) hexers, and unsure how far back it goes, my grandmother claimed it came from the "indian" side of the family. I have studied Wicca, shamisim, Cherokee medicine and the "craft" under a number of teachers, since I was a teenager I am 42 now. I have been a part of 2 covens, but left them both as they just weren't really for me. I also have one of those cheesy online "ordinations" you can get for free making you a clergy, but I have never bothered calling myself reverend, priestess, medicine woman, or any special title.

Well glad to be here, can't wait to learn even more, and share anything I am able to.
