Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Thank you, HD. I have considered contacting the shop and asking for one of the larger "specimen size" lodestones and asking if they can find one for me that seems to want to be a healer. I'd like to keep my little prosperity stone on the task at hand...

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Michelle,
I work with stones and crystals and find that they will often let me know what they want to do and be in similar ways. I say they 'talk' to me- and by that I mean exactly the kind of experience you had- they don't actually speak words. It usually takes a little time with them living in my home before this happens- as seems to have happened with you. Your suffering made it speak out.
If your stone wants to be a healer, why not let it and get another prosperity lodestone? Chances are you won't have much choice if this is what it's real purpose is.
Magnets have been used in healing and drawing the body's energies in various ways for a long time- think about those magnetic bracelets that were all the rage for a while. I think your lodestone wants to help.
On a side note, when you feel those migraine warning signs come on try staring intently at a large patch of something green (like grass green/kelly green shades) while waiting for your medicine to kick in. Try to make it so all you see is green- I have used a box that is green on the inside or you could use a green piece of cloth to cover your eyes. It helps. Unless you get ocular migraines.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
GoddessMojo,
Thank you for sharing. I think you are right; although the lodestone in question came with my Attraction spellkit, I believe its true calling is to heal. I feel very lucky to have received such an amazing stone. I will select another prosperity lodestone at my earliest opportunity.
I have had stones and crystals in the past that seemed to very strongly have a certain purpose or designation, but I have never had an experience like this. It really was wonderful; I waited several weeks before telling my story because it was one of those things just too good to share right away. The next step, I suppose, is to find out if it wants to work for others or me alone. I presume that after each healing use the stone should probably be cleansed, anointed and fed. If you have any techniques you'd like to suggest, I'd be grateful to learn how you care for your healing stones.
I appreciate your advice for dealing with migraine pain and will give it a try the next time I have one. Thanks so much for the very informative addition to this thread.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I agree, what an amazing gift your lodestone shared with you.
As for how I care for my stones, really, I just listen. Some don't 'say' much.
I keep my crystals and stones in a number of different ways. Some I have like stocks of herbs- waiting for a purpose I may not know or need yet. These I keep in a box that has a special meaning to me with a block of camphor and bay leaves to keep them free of any past energies and protected for future use, along with my spellwork ingredients. I have some that I use pretty regularly, as talismans, sort of- they are all over. My beside table, altars, desk, car, my purse, planters, shelves...
I have been having an ongoing discussion about 'cleansing' crystals (activating, charging, etc.) elsewhere. I've never really felt a need to regularly cleanse most of my stones- they do this for themselves, and I feel you can sometimes confuse or disrupt the stone's natural processes by cleansing too often. Especially those which choose a purpose for themselves; a healing stone LIVES to heal....why would it need to be cleansed of what sustains it? Stones are earth, which is supremely capable of dispersing energy without my help if I let it alone- one reason some stones are so good at healing. But I tend to employ my stones and crystals as helpers and not tools - passively doing what they already do, instead of employing them in ways that actively use their power in a way they would not without the input of my intent. As a result I don't need to clean them much.
On the other hand if my stones are around negative people or handled by others (negative or not) a lot I will definitely cleanse them, and also if I DO use them for a purpose that is ummm..... active instead of passive- I hope that makes sense. For example if I use a crystal to store my personal energy and then direct it somewhere else in an amplified fashion- this is active; whereas if I use a stone in a grid surrounding my candle works to add it's energy to my work, this is passive- what the stone will already do on it's own whether I ask it to or not. I don't feel my stones wish to be cleansed when they are just doing their purpose. That said, there are times when it helps and there are many ways to cleanse a stone- and I don't use the same on every stone. Same as hoodoo curios- you can smoke them, use a spiritual water (be careful not to use alcohol based ones on grainy stones, or on some crystals as it will damage the structure). Leave them in a bowl of living water (I use rainwater caught in moonlight) in the light of a full moon. Bury them in soil at the base of a tree or other plant for a time, leave them in a shallow running river bed for a bit (cover with other stones to keep in place), annoint them with Van Van.
When I get a new one I may spend some time with it at an altar with incense, not so much to smoke it as to uh... "meet" and welcome it. Then I will usually spend a number of days or weeks with the stone next to my skin if possible, and if not I try and find some other way to get to know each other. Lately two have asked for anointing with oils, as I was working on other stuff with oils in the room I could not shake the impulse to get up and give them a few drops too, something I've never been inclined to do. They are fairly new and I'd not gotten much from them in the way of what they wanted to do; meeting their request has helped me connect with them but I don't think of this act as a cleansing. Maybe an offering is a more fitting term.
Most crystals stones will amplify energy in some way; so I use some to amplify *myself*, some to amp up the representation of my target in prayer and spellwork- especially if I have a weak or no personal concern link, some to help certain things along like love or communication, some just to amplify or support a personality trait- I have a pair of turquoise earrings that are my own Fiery Wall of Protection/Crown of Success combo. I haven't delved into healing with them too much- but I think that is because I have never had a healer stone yet- at least not in the sense you are talking about.
I loosely follow the various correspondences found out there for stones, but often find that a stone just seems to present itself to me when it's particular purpose comes to hand. I will dig around and find some links for you. I know of at least two people who had stones of theirs 'decide' to be real healers. One of them wasn't a crystal collector or believer in anything magical at all. Now she travels the world with her healer stone. It didn't give her much of a choice. It might help you to talk with them.
What a wonderful experience to share!

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
What an interesting experience. While I've never heard of a Lodestone drawing pain, I do know that they've been used to attract health and healing. Why couldn't it also draw out your pain. I say get a new prosperity Lodestone and instead use the one that has spoken to you for healing work. You've obviously developed a great relationship with this stone, listen to its message

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I wanted to add a bit of information to this thread...
Everytime I pick up Hoodoo Herb & Root Magic, I learn something new! Under the entry for bearberry, I noticed a tea brewed from bearberry can be used to soak healing or talismanic stones.
I have not yet had a repeat of the dramatic "migraine-draining" experience...but will certainly update the thread as I learn more about working with my wonderful lodestone.
Take care all,
Michelle

This indicates to me that others in the tradition make use of stones as healing curios and reinforces GoddessMojo's perspective that the stone need not be cleansed; however, its inherent power can be supported/reinforced by the bearberry tea bath. Those who use stones to heal clients or carry one as a personal talisman soak them in BEARBERRY tea to enhance their natural power.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I've been waiting for my reading tomorrow to make an order and finally get my copy; the troubles that brought me to the board have finally lightened enough to allow it. Can't wait Can't wait Can't wait Can't wait....
I definitely think you can enhance the natural power of a stone in various ways and I am so glad to know there is a point of reference from such a reliable Hoodoo source. In sharing I had felt a little like I might be stepping out of bounds since I wasn't positive about stone use in the hoodoo tradition. Hopefully, you haven't NEEDED a migraine drawn from your head like a string.
Keep us updated.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I have a large number of lodestones. it's a calcification or an inclusion of white quartz, might be more useful for programming stones, i cant see any detractor from their power. just good lodestones
Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Forgive me if I overlooked this topic if it was already posted I did a search and did not find an exact result & please do redirect me to the proper thread if it was.
I have several questions,
1st: I am planning on doing the lodestone & red candle love spell, at the completion of the spell it just says to keep the tray in a safe place, however my 1st question is how long do I keep it there?
2nd: Should I bury it in my yard?
3rd: if it seems to be working at the completion of the spell could I then add the remnants (including the lodestones)to a honey jar I would like to start for the same purpose?
4th: Has anyone done this before?
5th: is it a good idea to combine spells that work toward the main goal? I would have started right off with the honey jar but I was unable to get hair or nail clippings several times.
Thank you,

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
misst,
1st: Forever, as long as you want it to continue working. I set one in place in 1998 and it is still in place.
2nd: I prefer it under the bed. That's where mine is.
3rd: No.
4th: Many people have done this lodestone spell before, if that is what you are asking. If, on the other hand, you are asking if many people have tended and fed a pair of Lodestones and then put them in a honey jar instead of burying them or placing them under the bed in the traditional manner -- i have never heard, seen, or even thought of such a thing. Perhaps you misread or misunderstood what i have written about burning a white, pink, or red candle behind the Lodestones, and my comments that the candle could do double-duty by becoming the candle on top of a honey jar -- that is, to use a honey jar as your candle stand. That would only be done if the person you were trying to attract was not sweet. For instance, when trying to draw an ex back to you.
5th: YYou are working two different spells. Do you understand how different they are? To attract someone, to draw the person to you with magnetic force, is an entirely different magical act than sweetening the person. If you need to do both, you ought to ask yourself,"Why am i trying to attract and draw to me someone who is not sweet to me?" As i noted, this may be necessary in reconciliation cases, but it is not the most common way to work, because usually the Lodestone spell is performed to attract a new love or to intensify a friendship into a love affair, and hence the person would already be sweet to you.
Good luck.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Hi all:
A couple months ago, I started a lodestone spell to draw a new job to my sister. She lives in Florida. I used her picture underneath the lodestone and I wrote up a petition paper with her name and the general qualities of the job she wanted (she's a lawyer, and a Sagittarius, and constantly changes her mind
)
She had an interview last week and accepted a job yesterday. She's pretty happy, though she's stressed about having to commute (an hour each way) and eventually having to sell the house in a kind of crappy market. I threw the cards for her and The Star came out upright, so I knew it was a pretty good situation for her and her family.
Anyway, on to my question: should I have her bury this lodestone and papers in her yard, or should I just bury it in my yard here?
Thanks,
waterborn

If she's moving, maybe having her bury it in a potted plant may be a good idea. This also keeps the spell going. As long as she waters the plant it will continue sending those energies out so long as it lives.

sorry about the programming bit, i just fed and matched 14 pairs of lodestones, and they really don't like the programming idea, just like one of cats posts. i think i need to read all her posts before i do anymore posting.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Lodestones are iron ore that is magnetic, sometimes there are inclusions or patches of white quartz adhering. Sometimes the stones have been in the rain and are a little rusty -- so they are white, rust, and dark grey. Nature is not a factory. Every single bit is unqiue. Enjoy!
And, about "programming." That is so wrong to me. It seems so out of tune with nature, so cold, so ... unconnected to life.

I have been wanting to do a spell which requires me to soak the lodestone overnight in whisky. I do not have any access to whisky or any form of alcohol, is there anything else i can use for this purpose?
thx...

You can use conditioning oil or sexual fluids according to the lodestones purpose...read more here...

thanks!
Thats good to know! I was thining of using this for a money drawing spell and so i think the oil of the same name: money drawing and money stay with me would be a good conditioning oil..would attraction oil also help? I also like to include some personal concern so will include that as well.
thx..your link was very helpful!

Attraction has lodestone grit in it so yes. Personal concerns like fingernail clipping would be appropriate for money drawing.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Florida water is also an acceptable substitute for whisky; it is very cleansing and attractive to good energy. Any of the alcohol-based colognes can work, for example Hoyt's cologne, Kananga Water or the Double Luck Perfume Oil. I love the Attraction products and my lodestones love the Attraction oil, too!
Take care of your lodestone and he/she will take care of you!
Good luck,

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
While whiskey is very traditional, I tend not to like it so I use Florida Water for cleansing lodestones, objects, and offerings to spirits and its worked just fine.
However, ask yourself what your spell is aimed at doing. You said the spell requires you to soak the lodestone(s) in whiskey overnight. If this is for the purpose of cleansing then sure you can replace it with one of the alternatives. However, if this is a spell for another purpose you may want to follow the instructions exactly and make no substitutes until you grasp the principles of what you are attempting to do.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
mona Q
You really want to use some alcohol based formula to soak your lodestones. We anoint them with oils, but for soaking you want an alcohol based fluid because the alcohol will evaporate in less than a day. The most traditional thing to use is as you note, whiskey. You could also use Rosewater (for love drawing), Orange Flower Water (for attraction/success), Hoyt's Cologne for money drawing/gambling luck. I would add some of my own urine to any of those three before soaking the lodestone. And note, they are not "traditional" but they are stand-ins. I know people love Florida Water but I use that primarily in ancestor/spirit work so unless you are using the lodestone to attract an ancestor or spirit to you, I would not use Florida Water, but I'm in the minority on that one.
Good luck,
Bri

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I've had my lodestones under my bed and was going to bury it under my front door but I have a steps and a big porch. I figure I'd bury them under the steps that lead up the porch to my front door but have discovered there is cement under there. Would it be best set them in the direct path under the porch but not bury it? As far as I can reach there is cement...no dirt to bury.
Or would it be better to bury it in the dirt right to the right of the steps? I wasn't quite sure what was most important...to have it buried in the earth or in the direct path where people will physically walk to get into my house? I could put a planter of dirt and bury it in there and push it under the porch as well. Which would be the best?

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Its really up to you, personally I would bury it in a planter and set that under the pouch, because I wouldn't want it just laying there uncovered.
Ask the lodestone if you can't decide, they are very much alive, a simple way is to rest a coin on them for a night, the next day tell the lodestone your two choices, either under the porch in a planter or to the side in the ground, and say heads for one, tails for the other and ask the lodestone to tell you with the coin. Flip the coin and you will know. Of course you always just use a pendulum instead, bit faster and easier but I don't know if you have one and can work it. And however you do it, have faith in your work
Best of Luck to you.

OMGeeeee it worked!
I used a pendulum. It wants to be in planter under porch. Very clear answer too. Big movements and abrupt change of direction when I offered choices in burial.

Hi - I have a quick question. I've checked all through the threads, and the pages on Lucky Mojo, and I've found out lots of useful, interesting things, but I'm still wondering one thing.
I'm putting together a honey jar, and wanted to put a pair of lodestones in it - it does say on the honey jar page that that would work, but then how do I feed the lodestones? I have magnetic sand, and would obviously feed them before putting them in there, but can't really open the jar up and pull them out every week for more feeding, especially as I wanted to wrap each of them up in photo/petition papers with personal concerns. They're good, strong, highly magnetic stones, and I really want to treat them well for the work they'll be doing for me.
Thanks

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I would work them outside the jar so that you can continue to feed them each week. Personally, I cannot find where it says to put the lodestones in the jar. In the Hoodoo herb and root magic book, and every other place I have seen working with lodestones, it says to feed them each day. I would put them on a plate or something where you can feed them magnetic sand each day.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
It's here http://www.luckymojo.com/honeyjar.html
I could work it as separate things, and it would probably make them easier to train, but would prefer not to have too many separate things going at the same time if possible. It might be more effective though.Other ingredients can be added to the name-paper if you wish -- a piece of court case root for a court case spell, two rose petals for a love spell, a lump of sugar for a family member, two clove buds for friendship, bayberry root or sassafras root for a money spell, a pair of Adam-and-Eve roots for love, two small Lodestones for sexuality, a pinch of deer's tongue leaves for a proposal of marriage, a square of camphor for cleaning out bad things of the past, and so forth.

Well you do have to keep the lodestone alive to help it work, which is why you must feed it magnetic sand. You could try putting it in the way you mentioned and see what happens.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
antares
I treat lodestones in a honey jar the same way that I treat lodestones in a mojo hand, they are after all both variants on container spells.
Anywho, when we get a mojo hand with lodestones in them, we feed the lodestones once (usually they already come with some magnetic sand on them) and then we close up our bag and most likely don't re-open it for a year. You do not go around opening and closing your mojo hand every week to feed your lodestones
SO, same goes for the honey jar. When I incorporate lodestones into my honey jars I feed them with magnetic sand and then place them in the jar. As long as I work that jar I am working the lodestone, if I remake the jar I will wash the lodestone, anoint it with whiskey, let it dry, and then feed it with magnetic sand. When you dispose of your honey jar that will be the equivalent of burying the lodestone.
good luck,
Bri

Hello!
When feeding the lodestone with magnetic sand, I've read to either do it daily or once a week. What's the traditional way to do it?

Depends on what your using the stones for. A moving lodestone spell to draw love worked over nine or seven days, feed them everyday, a lodestone for drawing money and working on trained hunting money, usually would only be fed once a week. But it really depends on you and the stone.

We use lodestones in pairs for love. Single lodestones can be used to attract money, or to attract attention, but for love, we use them in pairs.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I mentioned in a different thread (on an different subject matter) that I'm thinking of putting a lodestone in a return-to-me dollbaby. Conjureman kindly answered that it sounded like a good idea.......but I'm wondering two things. First, would it be better to use one in the dollbaby I'm making for my boyfriend, or, should I make two dollbabies, one for my BF and the second for myself, and put one stone inside each? The second question deals with "feeding" the lodestones. This will be my first-ever time using lodestones and I understand that they must be fed, but if they were sewn into the dollbabies, that would be impossible. Would it be better to somehow put them on the outside, like tying them around the dollbabies or something like that?
Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Lynda,
sprinkle some magnatic sand in the doll baby when you make it, that will feed the lodestones.

Depends on how you wish to work the dollies. If you want to make two, one for you and one for that person and work them along side one another then I'd put one part of a matching lodestone in one and the other lodestone in the other doll baby.
A lodestone in a doll baby is similar to one in a mojo bag. You feed it initially to set it working for you.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
I was wondering if you carry a large single Lodestone for my altar. I would like to have a permanent luck drawing altar and am in need of a rather large stone for this purpose. I understand that "bigger isn't always better" but would like a larger stone than I have previously seen. Any information would be great! Do any large Lodestones come through the shop for customer purchase? Thank you!

I find it extremely humorous that of all the time I spend on the LM site (a bunch of my downtime, in fact) I still manage to miss a ton of information/ordering instructions. I swear i looked first, but "eh"...live and learn. I would love to buy a specimen sized LS. It would be extra nice (for me personally) to get one from LM. Thanks for all the info!

Lol... If it makes you feel better, I've done that plenty of times - looked all over for an answer to a question, couldn't find it, post about it (not necessarily here, although I think I've done it here at least once) and then realize the answer was right in front of me the whole time.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
Hello everyone
I recently ordered a set of matched male-male lodestones from the shop. Wow. That's all I can say, wow. They are delightfully large and heavy and powerful they suck up magnetic sand like a vacuum! They fit together like two pieces of a jig-saw puzzle.
I just want, as a gay man, to thank LuckyMojo for making Male-Male and Female-Female lodestone sets available to the public, so many times I've walked into shops and been meant with dirty looks when I ask for such sets. So, to Cat and Nagashiva and everyone at the shop, thank you, you guys are a true treasure for making not just the Lodestones but all the fantastic conjure goods you make available to us.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
If you want to work by planetary timing, then you could go Wednesday (mercury) to bring in money quickly and through means of communication, Thursday (Jupiter) if you want to grow money that you already have, or Friday (Venus) which is connected to payday and Venus can also help you get luxuries. If you're trying to get a job, then you may wish to think about Sunday, as it is the day of success. You could look up the planetary hours and work in the appropriate hour for the planetary day you work in.
You could also work by the moon phases, working for financial gain and growth during the waxing moon.
Or you could work when both hands on the clock are rising to draw things to you.
It's up to you how much emphasis you want to put on timing. In hoodoo it is not mandatory, and each practitioner will choose what (if any) timing they go by.
Timing has been discussed MANY times before on the forum, so spend some time searching around and you'll find all the info you need.

Thank you very much - will do.

Re: Lodestone and Magnetic Sand Questions and Answers
About a month ago I prepared a lodestone to draw money to me. I used a large lodestone and followed the "Lodestone Money (Or Object) Drawing Spell" found in HHRM. It's now bringing in money to me. Last week I was offered a once a week side-job that pays 250.00 in cash weekly! This will alleviate much of my financial woes. I'm so grateful to have a relationship with my lodestone and I'm looking forward to more successes!!

Money-drawing lodestones are very effective! There's a large specimen size lodestone on my prosperity altar that I work several times weekly, and it's certainly proven it's worth many times over.
I'm happy that it's working so well for *you*.
