Hello from Jacksonville

Unread post by Mary Bee » Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:03 pm

Hello everyone;

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

I've already posted a few times so I figured I should introduce myself :) I'm waterborn, a 30-something female person. Exiled Yankee living since age 14 in the South. I usually like it here, except for the blinding summer heat. I love my hometown of Boston and my northern roots but the South has taught me a lot as well.

I've been involved in witchy stuff for about 11 years now, mostly on a solitary level. I also study Thelema and ceremonial magick and tarot. I am investigating Haitian Vodou and having some success, though I do not have a teacher or house except for God and the lwa (and aren't they the source anyway? :)).

If you could go back in a time machine and see me at age 8, you would find me under the porch at my house, grinding up rocks into powder, squishing roots and plants and mixing them into rainwater and pretending I was a magician. That, friends, is why I'm interested in Hoodoo now.

Love is the Law, Love under Will.

Welcome. I hope you enjoy working within the hoodoo tradition. Unlike Thelema or Vodou, hoodoo is not a religion, but rather a folkloric compilation of spells, charms, and formulas that circulates through African American Christian communities, carrying in its wake a few practitioners who are of other races and ethnic backgrounds, and also a few with other religious orientations as well.

Hi Miss Cat:

Thanks for your kind reply: I've already done some Hoodoo work with your great products and have enjoyed it a lot. There's a ton to learn :D I was raised Catholic and what appeals to me about Hoodoo is the Christian roots, because I can honor my roots and work with beloved saints of my childhood as well.
