The subject of this post is the list of what brought me to this particular forum (this brings back memories from when I use to obsess over usenet etc.). Ive always been a spiritual person by nature (my parents weren't religious,- I remember finding a stack of miniature prayer books when I was five or so and thought all of it was as fascinating as the fairy tails my mom read me) and drawn to the "esoteric" (almost became a priest, or Pastor). Never had the discipline for any sort of "magic(k)al initiation, but I love reading, studying and dabbling. I think, and have good reason to believe, that I am clairvoyant:I have the occasional prophetic dream and read Tarot, I-ching, palms and am going to attempt to learn lanormande. I may not be able to tell you why I see the stuff I do in palms or cards- but they write stories in my mind and when I spit those stories out, people have been shocked- so...I'd say I'm pretty good at it.
Any way, my late night "research" has always lead me to Lucky Mojo for some reason or another, and I just never looked into the shop- or any of what this network of sites has to offer until recently. I'm hooked. I've Been reading Ms. Yronwode's and others books, posted articles and whatnot, and have come to the conclusion that my family is rich with unrecognized Hoodoo tradition. I'm mixed, and the black side is all from Mississippi, and Alabama (white from Montana, how that happened no one knows). On the maternal (black) side, all the women have jokingly been called witches. I'm not saying that I have some super Hoodoo blood, birthright or lineage. Through reading, I'm realizing how deeply embedded hoodoo is within the culture of black america, particularly the older southern folks.
So, now I"m here to soak up as much knowledge as I can, and potentially be able to call myself a root worker, or atleast hold an intelligent converasation on the topic in the future.
Now, I do have a question, and am not sure where I should post it. I would like to know if there is a book, books, site or sites that explores the homosexual influence within or the homosexual branch of hoodoo rootwork etc. Judging from what I know of history and the chitlin circuit and its utilization of root work, i'm hoping something of what I'm looking for exists.
Glad I have found all of this, and Nice to meet you!
