Hi all!

I dropped a bottle of Bewitching oil and a bit of it spilled on my cat, behind her head and back of her neck. I wiped her down with a wet paper towel but I can tell there's some oil left in her fur. Should I give her a bath?? I don't see any irritation on her skin and it's not in a spot she can really lick but I'm still a bit worried about her ingesting it. What do y'all think?

Thanks so much for your wonderful work!

Hi, Thejadedhippy --

Just for safety's sake, i would give the cat a bath. We cannot guarantee the skin-safety of our oils on cats. The oils are in a carrier oil (generally almond oil), but stil --- better safe thatn sorry.

Thanks Cat! I did end up washing her off more thoroughly. Her coat is still a little oily but she seems fine.

My little familiar can't stay away from me when I'm working. haha

Thanks again :)

Ants on the Altar

Unread post by Godislove » Tue May 08, 2018 7:29 pm

I'm having an issue with ants in my room and I I want to set food on my altar, can i cleanse it down with salt and water mix an then set it back up. What can I do to prevent the ants from trying to get to the offerings.

Godislove --

Thank you for not wanting to use pesticides, but Ants are rarely kept away by just a salt-water wash. Try a thick ring of epsom salts around the legs of the altar table -- they rarely cross such barriers.

On the other hand, be aware that in many African cultures, both Ants and Termites are seen as messengers and people often take offerings to THEM -- to their nests -- to ask them to carry messages to distant people, and this tradition was retained in hoodoo, so we find many old conjure spells that involve taking people's names to an Ants' nest... for good or for evil.

In this case if I wanted to attract a lover who I’m connected to by 1 or 2 degrees do I take his name to the best? And I put down the Epsom salts- my puppy isn’t to happy about it but at least she won’t go near it! Hopefully the ants will do the same. We’re having a huge ant problem. You can’t put anything down.

Reason: issue solved

This topic was discussed on the Hoodoo Rootwork Hour radio broadcast for October 13, 2019, featuring Miss cat as the special guest (taking a break from her regular co-hosting duties). She talked about When Spells Go Bad, and covered many aspects of this subject.

It's worth a listen for anyone practicing hoodoo conjure, who may have ever slipped up or gotten unexpected results.

This isn't exactly negative but I'm curious about something, why would animals be attracted to altar spaces? My cat rubs up against my tarot cards and is using the herb book written by Cat as a bed. If I wasn't on mobile, I'd upload a photo, it's quite cute. I never really questioned it and thought it was adorable, but I'm wondering if it's a mere coincidence or if there's an attraction to magic.

Hello Starhime13,

Animals are very sensitive and may be attracted to the energy of an altar or divination tools. One of my dogs would always want to help "shuffle" my cards while the other one could not care less and curls up in a corner instead. I've just chalked it up to their sensitivity to energy (or lack thereof).

By the way, we do not allow photos on the forum so it's just as well that you couldn't upload one.

Good luck with your spells.
