This forum has been a blessing for me. You see, I’m a relocated Southerner from the Delta region living in the lower Midwest and central plains for better than a decade (due to marriage). Where we live is very cool in its own right, but it’s so different from what I know. A body doesn’t realize how every day common place the things you’re used to are until they aren’t around anymore. By way of example: when I first moved here, I could not get my head around why folks here will just casually sweep right over a person’s feet, much less why they were oblivious as to why I’d jump back and maybe get mad if they thought it was funny when they’d get a broom near my feet or on my tracks when they were sweeping. I’ve learned to altogether stay out of the room I see somebody here sweeping. It saves time and headache explaining.
So basically, I’m the odd one out for my “eccentricities” and “superstitions”, aside from with most of my African American and Native American friends here. I mostly keep my work to myself and not being a big social media person with a platform to talk to folks back home all the time, this forum really has been a blessing if for no other reason than just to read and see familiar ideas and notions being discussed casually. Or, more fun, to read about things I don’t know, especially from other systems that correlate in neat ways or hoodoo outside of the South. I also really appreciate being able to seek yall’s advice when I’m considering a product I’ve never used or otherwise want to alleviate any doubt on an idea I’m mulling over.
So, maybe this is ended up a little more of a thank you than introduction, but I am enormously grateful to Miss Cat for all you do and all the crew at LM and folks moderating the forum for providing your time, effort, advice and conversation. To a home-sick gal it’s a godsend, and I wanted to be sure and express that thanks.
