I am extremely excited to enroll into the Correspondence Course. 😁 Hoodoo has unofficially been a big part of my spiritual life and look forward further developing/sharing my knowledge and gifts. I have a question in regards to showing proof of ownership of the reading materials: Should I submit a picture of the books I currently own prior to enrolling in the course? Or should I wait until after I've submitted my request? Thank you!

Hello, loveofhoodoo --

Just send a photo of the books you have to the regular Lucky Mojo order desk email -- along with any order for required purchases. When you do, please state that you wish to be logged as a Prospective Student and to have your material checked off. Once that is done, Nicole should send you a return email (wait at least a week, please) in which she will pass you on to an interview with me or provide you with a list of remaining purchases.

Stay in touch!

I first heard about Lucky Mojo in another course that I've taken where the teacher recommended getting certain materials we needed for his course from Lucky Mojo. He also, recommended his students to take the 52 week Hoodoo Course that he himself had taken. His course was the beginning of me finally being serious about my practice of magic and receiving guidance along the way. Not a hoodoo course but a course dedicated to Hekatean sorcery. I've be dabbling for over 25 years(I am 45)starting with tarot, chaos magic, pranic healing, Gallery of Magic, Quareia. All over the place! Needless to say, i got results when I was consistent somewhat. Lucid dreaming and astral travel is something I naturally start doing from age 17 on up.

Anyways, after studying a lot of magic in 2020 and developing some steady practices, I started to come back around to Lucky Mojo. I listened to the podcast and I realized that Mrs Yronwode is an amazing tarot reader and very thorough in articulating her wisdom of hoodoo. The more podcast I listened to, it just began to feel like home and hoodoo just seems like the practice for me.

I am ready to enroll and purchase what materials I need to purchase to get started. I am an African American man. I was raised Church of God In Christ from my maternal grandma's side but my paternal grandma was Baptist. I am a musician (pianist, organist) that plays in church and I have played for all kinds of churches. The religion is not going to interfere with my hoodoo practice. It's been more of a form of employment and I love playing gospel music, as well as all forms of black music, and some rock even.

My question is one that I haven't seen definitively answered on here yet. If it has, I apologize for not finding it. I have bought candles, candle holders, ink, feather quills, parchment paper, mugwort, mullein, and dandelion root from Lucky Mojo. However, all the required books I purchased from Amazon. It's just been where I've gotten all my books, primarily kindle if available, for the last 7 years. Is that ok? Just want to make sure I qualify to take the course.

Hello, Shining Shadow, and welcome to our Forum.

First, i want to thank your teacher who recommended my course. That was very kind of him.

Next, i am very happy that you took the time to listen to our podcasts and get to know my style -- that meakes getting into the teacher-student relationship much easier, because you will have a reasonable undestanding as to who i am, how i express myself, and what i aim to teach.

Your background and participation in the Black Christian churches will be very valuable in your studies of hoodoo, because hoodoo is the folk magic of African American Christian people. In my teaching to White, Asian, and Latino students, i actually provide videos of gospel music, preaching, and praise dancing as part of my attempt to familiarize them with Black culture -- because hoodoo is embedded in and arises from Black culture.

Your purchasing of the required books from Amazon is fine, and all you have to do is send a cell phone photo of the books to our shop so that we know that you have the books. As for the products, i do require that the goods be purchased from my shop, for the simple reason that i cannot know that a student has good and true products and herbs to work with unless i supply them. Some of the products (for example, herbs, roots, minerals, flannel bag, and empty 1/2 ounce bottle) will be used in making up the homework, and other products (for example the Chinese Wash, Peace Water, incense, bath crystals, oils, and powders) will be used in carrying out the forms of work described in the course.

As you know, the course itself is very cheap for what you get -- a 432 page hardbound book, a certificate of graduation, lifetime access to a private forum, and career help for any student who wants to pursue rootwork as a profession for $104.00 -- and this economy is offset by your having to purchase goods from my shop, and the bulk of that money goes to the employees who make and pack the goods.

Thanks for your interest, and i look forward to getting to know you.

Thank you Mrs.Yronwode for your response!

As I said, it was listening to your podcasts (usually while washing dishes which I am very slow at, lol) or running errands, that I realized the depth of your wisdom and experience and I am excited for the opportunity to be able to learn under you. Just listening to the podcast and reading the books have been life changing, and it will be an honor to speak with you and be taken under your wing with this legacy. I also love to hear the wisdom of all your co-hosts and I actually own a book written by Conjureman Ali. I've been so addicted to the podcast y'all are starting to feel like family, lmao!

By the way, I have been your facebook friend for several months now. My name is Martin L Bowie. Full birth name is Martin Luther Bowie, but Facebook will not allow me to add Luther!

I have no problem purchasing your products at all and that makes total sense why you have it setup that way. And I can take a picture with the books, no problem. I also have the Hoodoo Food book, which my wife was interested in and the Secret of Numbers.

My question with that is do I need to start purchasing those other materials BEFORE I am able to enroll? If so, that's no problem either. If we need to split that up in 4 invoices over the course, is there a recommendation of what should be in the first purchase?

The course is an AMAZING deal considering the amount of wisdom and tools we are given, which are invaluable. And I know you are in your 70's and probably going to retire within next 3-5 years so I would be remiss if I didn't learn, from what I've seen , is the most thorough and passionate hoodoo teacher on the planet. You.

I look forward to getting to know you also, and eventually making a trip out to California(I am 45 and have never been!) to meet you in person once this Covid mess is under control. I'm in Wichita, Kansas. I hope you are able to get your vaccine soon so you can feel comfortable and get out as I understand from your podcast, you've mentioned that you haven't really gone anywhere.

Much love and respect!!!

Shining Shadow --

Yes, you have to purchase the products before we schedule our telephone interview and orientation to the course work When you order, be sure to leave a note to the effect of "I am a prospective HRCC student" in the message area of the order. If you do that, the order entry peson will click a field in the LMCCo. database marking you as such, and will then log all of your purchases, past and present, to keep track of how close you are getting to having everything purchased so that you can be scheduled for the interview and approval.

Our database goes back to 1998, and it doesn't matter how longago a customer made a purchase -- we can find it and log it in the required purcahses list. If at any time you are unsure of what you still need, you can contact the shop and ask for a list of what required products are needed for completion of the list.

As for my retirement -- well, we all die sometime, i have been told, but i come from a line of women who tend to stay active well into old age, and i hope to be like them, writing and participating in the community as long as i continue to wake up in the mornings. Wish me luck in that!

Well I ordered everything I was told to order. Waiting on the second order to arrive as I didn't get everything I needed the first order.

Your products smell amazing Mrs. Yronwode!

Anyways, while I wait on your approval, I'll go back and re-read the Hoodoo Theory and Practice online. Beautiful, engaging wealth of information. You really have done such a comprehensive job of preserving the art and history of hoodoo, m'am. There should be a movie made about you!

Looking forward to listening to yesterday's podcast as I wash dishes today. Last weeks' curses into blessings was great!
Have a great day!

Hello Mrs Yronwode thank you for the wealth of information. I am very happy to be taking your course, soon hopefully. After my next order I will be reaching out to request an interview. I am very excited to have a structured way to study hoodoo and practice working. Im 35 and I grew up in a baptist family and went to catholic school for a few years. One of my grandmothers practiced hoodoo with out going to church but we did not call it that. Im have listened to your show a few times and I like it. Most of the time it motivates me to look up more information. I don't have a question at the time just a thanks for the space. Have an awesome year and I hope to be reaching out soon.

Hi ms. cat,

I sent you a message and Facebook request about three or so months ago to get ready to apply for the HRCC. I reckon you get a lot of Facebook messages but just wanted to drop you a line. Apologies if this is not the right thread. I look forward to hopefully studying with you soon, thank you, Kat.

Hello, creepmouse --

I reached my Facebook "friends" limit and found it difficult to wait for people to unfriend me so that i can friend them, so on January 1st, 2021, i created a new Facebook "public figure" page, which allows me to have an infinite numberer of "followers. Of course, i prefer friends o followers, but i have to face the reality of Facebook's limitatons.

So please, just go to my public figure page and "follow" me, okay?

Speaking of Facebook limitations, how bizarre is it that Facebook wouldn't allow that fellow Martin (a few posts ago) to use his real middle name which is Luther ?

And also-- I thought you already had a public figure page, miss cat. (??)

@papagee This is great advice! I plan on using all of your suggestions to make sure I have a firm handle on each craft we have to perform. Although I can learn from books, I'm also a very hands on person when it comes to learning.

Hi Everyone~
My name is Amina (Godess_Moon) and I am a regular customer of LMC products, weekly listener of the LMC Rootwork Hour Radio Show and Cat Yronwode is a huge influence in my life. I grew up in the Middle East (Egypt, Saudi Arabia and U.A.E.), born in the U.S.
Throughout my life I have been surrounded by my grandmother, aunts and mother working with roots and herbs for health, spiritual traditions of ancient Egyptian spiritual work, tarot and rune readings. In the U.S. I attended baptist churches w/ my aunt and uncle who was a pastor of his own church. Learning the different Christian practices and attending catholic mass w/ my mother, I continued on as a Muslimah which was required growing up in Saudi Arabia. I learned about hoodoo very early in my childhood witnessing some practices in the Baptist church.
After listening to yesterday’s podcast, Becoming a Rootworker w/ Deacon Millett, I realized that anything is possible as long as you put your hard work, passion and mind to it!
I regularly order from LMC over the years and have been a member of the Forum since 2010, visited LMC shop in FORESTVILLE 8 years ago and fell in love with everything there. I wanted to attend one of Cat’s workshops but did not make it there. I was referred by a friend of mine who is a rootworker and attended Cat’s classes over the years. I call short of attending Cat’s classes but very familiar with the entire LMC website. I studied feee spells, started a journal of my own and practiced cleansing which was not easy to do at first and realized I needed to continue practicing.
It truly dawned on me that I am deeply lacking so much and that is the Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course. I am deeply influenced on a daily basis of LMC from the forum, shop, newsletter, Crystal Science League and more. I am confident that becoming a student of the Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondance Course. I learned that I need to purchase books and will inform the shop that I am a prospective student.
Family and friends come to me when they need herbs and roots, I purchase all from LMC. I order products monthly from LMC. I share the bath salts and oils with friend and family in need of spell advice, which I learned all from LMC.
Sometimes I go to Ancient Ways to purchase LMC products if I need something right away. But my short coming is I tell my family & friends that I am not a Rootworker, but my instinct tells me that I have what it takes. If I carefully read and collect free spells and Rootwork advice from the forum and write out notes that I learn from Cat, Conjureman Ali and the weekly Rootwork hour guest, it is time to take the next step. A few years ago I wanted to sign up but was not confident. Today I am ready to take the next step. I will continue to read and learn more and order books and pray that Cat will accept me as her student. I look forward to meeting with Cat and hopefully an interview and acceptance into the correspondence course!
Sending blessings to you all!

Hi Miss Athena,
Thank you for your feedback, I love hearing you when you are on the Hoodoo Rootwork Hour on Sundays.
What do you advise on how to schedule an interview? Do I apply for the correspondence before hearing back for a possible interview?

Hello Goddess_moon,

Thank you for that! I'm glad you enjoy the radio shows.

There is a process for applying to the course. You can read through the following page for details on what to do, as well as read the posts in this topic. It's all pretty straightforward.

https://www.luckymojo.com/mojocourse.html

You will need to notify the shop when making your next order that you wish to have your purchases flagged as a prospective student. Once you complete your required purchases, you can have your interview scheduled with Miss cat.

Read through the posts here and on the link above and you should know how to proceed. If you still have questions after that, feel free to ask us here.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Goddess_moon,

Athena is right.

Step 1: In your next order, leave a note in the message area for your account to be flagged as a "Prospective Student" and for Nicole to send you a list of anything you still need to purchase.

Step 2: If you bought the required books from another vendor, send a photo to Lucky Mojo via email, showing that you have the books and you will be credited for them.

Step 3: Read all the other requirements, regarding internet connectivity, connection to the African American community, and familiarity with the forum -- at https://www.luckymojo.com/mojocourse.html

Step 4: Ask Nicole to stay in touch with you -- she will schedule your interview just as soon as you meet the requirements. Interviews take place on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Step 5: Once we have the interview done, you may purchase the course book and begin studying.

Thank you Miss Athena and thank you Cat for confirming. So far I have read the links and the correspondence course in the forum. I just wanted to make sure I don’t miss a step. I just made my monthly order on feb 10, but will make sure to add “prospective student” to the notes on my next order. I will also ensure I purchase all the books prerequisite to being accepted into the course. Your message completed my day, thank you again for your feedback and response.

I am looking forward to being a part of the course and student community of LM. A few years ago I wanted to join but didn’t have enough knowledge and didn’t practice consistently as I do today. I learned so much from the forum, podcast, purchasing products and Learning from your products. I believe that timing is everything & truly appreciate the opportunity to be mentored.
Thank you!

DeborahHarris ,

It is one item that seems to be indicated in the outline that one would have for the course, I know Miss Cat discusses why on this page about the course.

DeborahHarris, You do not specifically need a facebook account in order to take the Correspondence Course. but if you are no on FB, you must be in Instagram.

There are two reasons:

1) I must be able to stay in touch with you while you are a student, and i have found that in addition to email, a social media account is an indicator of scial stability.

2) This is a course in African-American folk magic. If you are not Black, you will not be able to graduate unless you have Black friends, due to the requirement of Homework No. 2. Dozens, even hundreds of non-Black people have tried to take this course without being able to demonstrate to me that they have Black friends -- and they cannot graduate, and so i have stopped admitting them as students. This is not a rare situation. It is common. Please see my web page on the problem here:

Good luck, and thanks for your interest.

I called the Lucky Mojo but you were not there someone took my info and said you would get back to me. this has been about four days ago. I also tried to send you a friend request on Facebook but I don't think your excepting and friend request at the time because there was nowhere to send the request. Did you also buy the required items to take the course including: oils, powders, incense? I believe if you have met these requirements you can add the book to your cart and purchase it, then the shop will contact you to set up an interview.

Hi, lauronztheone!

Because my course is not a beginner's class but more of a master class, i give prospective students a list of requirements to order first, to familiarize themselves with the typical home-level work. The list consists of inexpensive, basic books that i have written, plus a range of spiritual supplies to work with and become familar with -- some of which will be used in the class itself.

So the first thing to do is to read the required books and products list, and to start ordering items from those lists -- and each time you order, leave a message in the message area of your order statin that you are a "prospective student" so that we can check off what you have purchased.

If you keep a checklist yourself, it will help, and when you have checked off every item, then you can call the shop, ask someone to confirm that you have all the items, and they will set up an appointment. We will talk for an hour (maybe more) and i will then approve you as a student and my husband nagasiva will change your forum status, add an avatar for you and we will walk you through the private student forum (hidden within this forum). When you order the course book, i will sign it and inscribe it with your name and from then on you will be able to read the student lesson and homework threads, and to ask me any questions that arise from your reading of the course book.

Another question: Lesson 1 of the curriculum is "Gifted for The Work". When Cat interviews us before taking us on as a student, will she do a reading to see if we are? I don't have a problem with it. Just wondering if I am.

DeborahHarris,

The interview with Cat (my experience) is a conversation to get to know you, not a reading. The lesson is discussing topics of Gifted for the Work and also your experience that you feel qualify you. You may discuss your experiences growing up, family, culture, your experiences working in magic or doing divination etc.

I hope that helps clarify for you!

Thanks, Jaydee -- You are correct. The interview is to see if you have a real reason to study with me, if the work will be feasble for you, and if you have realistic expectations about what i offer to my students. I also seek to find out what your goals are -- to learn about family culture and folklore, to become a professional reader and rootworker, to open a metaphysical shop, to research material for literary purposes, or to collect information for academic use.

I then walk you through the 8 homeworks to see if you have experience with the tasks or will need extra help -- for instance, if you have dried herbs routinely in the past, i will not need to give you pointers on how to do that.

After that i ask your agreement to four basic social agreements, and then i walk you though joining the private students' forum, with nagasiva as a helper, and we introduce you to the private aspects of the forum.

Hope that helps.

Okay, so I put all the books/materials needed for the course in my basket. Then realized that the "Hoodoo Jukebox- The Luckymojo Conjure Toolbox" requires a CD/DVD drive on a computer to download the art images. I have a CD player for playing the music, so that's no problem. But I don't have a CD drive on my laptop (for the images). So what do I do now?

Hello DeborahHarris,

You have several options. External CD-ROM drives for laptops are relatively inexpensive and can be used across multiple computers. It's a good investment if you're so inclined.

Alternatively, most libraries and office supply stores have computers available for use by the public for a small fee. You could print out the images there or download them to a thumb drive (also known as jump drives, which are very inexpensive). You could then use that drive on your laptop by plugging it into the USB port on your computer.

If you have a friend with a computer that includes an internal drive, then ask if you could print/download onto a thumb drive from their computer.

These are just a few suggestions.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

karnal777 ,

Here is a link to the course. To become a student there are certain purchase requirements and book to purchase, to be aquatinted with, while you learn Hoodoo. Thereafter, you can sign up by emailing the shop, confirming you met the requirements, and have an interview with Miss Cat. After that, she will send the book as soon as you purchase it. You can learn all about this process by reading this link.

Good evening, I would like to know the value of Catherine Yronwode's correspondence course, how much is all the necessary material, Oils, powders, dust and books, and if the products are sent to Brazil. And being from Brazil can I take the course? Do you have a certificate of completion?

Paula Alves Henrique,

Not the normal perspective most students take when they come to the Forum to learn from Miss Cat. The value is unmeasurable of the wealth of knowledge, hands on experience, use of real items based on time and true tradition. Is that value enough for you? That is a personal question, but you can add the physical cost by simply reading the page on the course.

Two more questions while I'm waiting to be interviewed: Will I recieve additional (along with the hard cover Correspondence Course book) lessons in the mail. And will there be pictures with the lessons (Ex. pictures of alters, and how to set them up) either in the lessons or on the private student forum.

DeborahHarris,

The course book is the written lessons into the text with directions from Miss Cat. You will only receive the Course unless you order other items with it at the same time. The required books and suggested books, that go along with the course are the supporting text that have detailed instructions on setting up items you listed, including altars, with illustrations in those books. There is a private forum for all students, a section on each lesson to ask questions, also to read the past post from former students. There is an area about questions regarding the homework as well.

You can see the course curriculum here: https://www.luckymojo.com/curriculum.html

Goodnight. Of course, I agree with you, but we need to plan financially and I want to know how much is left in total, the course I was able to see the value, but I didn't find all the material together to buy and the books, I need them in Portuguese, which is my native language, it takes a lot of time to translate. Understood my colleague, I'm planning for next year to have all the money and time to dedicate myself to the fullest of my heart, I love Hoodoo and I want to learn from the best and improve what I already know.
