Greetings from Louisville

Unread post by Lucibet » Tue Aug 10, 2021 4:23 pm

Greetings! I am new here. I currently reside in Louisville, KY. Born in Richmond, VA. Lived and traveled lotsa places. Faves outside of the states are Paris and Galway. I'd have to say my fave city in the states is New Orleans. I have been IN LOVE with New Orleans ever since I visited some years back! Wanted to live there, but not so sure I can handle that summer heat! LOL! I'm born and lived most of my life in the Southern USA, but anything over 70 degrees is HOT to me! ;-)

I'm coming here from many years of Druidry. Have felt a growing interest in American Diaspora folkloric traditions of all kinds, not just Irish and Scottish, particularly in regards to African enslaved peoples and their descendant heritage here, which I consider to be one of the bedrock foundations of American culture. As a kid in Richmond, VA, my Ma and I lived in majority African American neighborhoods, where I had early exposure to African American culture, especially through food, and music such as soul, blues, funk, jazz. Can you imagine American culture or music history without jazz and its influence? Impossible! By the way, any y'all here know Cassandra Wilson? I adore her music!

I'm considering applying for Cat's course in the future. I'm intrigued, but for now I've been spending time browsing around this MASSIVE website (shew wee!), trying to familiarize myself with LuckyMojo culture and ways.

I am 49, female, in a same gender marriage, step-mom to 5 kids. We're a mixed family all around - an auntie and cousins are Filipino, my kids are half African-American, I'm mostly Irish on my Ma's side, Scottish and German through my Dad. Generations of farmers in KY, NC, VA, but by my generation the family has spread out all the way across the continent from Hawai'i to Florida!

Music is my greatest creative passion. I sing, play flute, and percussion. I write, I love to cook, especially Celtic folklore foods, and regional American cookery, particularly Cajun, New Orleans Creole, and Lowcountry. I mean, Grillades & Grits anyone? Surely that dish must be served in heaven! Along with fresh scones and lemon curd! ;-)

I look forward to fellowship here with y'all Lucky Mojo folk. If there's anything anyone would like to know about me, just ask! :-)

Blessings,
~ Lucibet

Hello Lucibet, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for letting us get to know you a bit! We're happy to have you here

I'm sure you have been exploring a lot of the forum and community on your own but these are links to general information on Hoodoo to give you a jumping off point:

Hoodoo History:
http://luckymojo.com/hoodoohistory.html

Mojo Hands:
http://luckymojo.com/mojo.html

Oils:
http://luckymojo.com/oils.html

Baths:

Powders:

Incense:

Candles:

Herbs:

Conditions and how we can address them:
http://luckymojo.com/hoodooataglance.html

Here is some info on how the forums are set up. It is divided into four major parts:

1) News and Announcements about the Lucky Mojo Curio Company and this site.

2) Lucky Mojo Spiritual Supplies and how to use them, listed in threads by product type and product title.

3) Life Conditions and Situations, with recommended Lucky Mojo products, spells, and advice.

4) The Online Hoodoo Community, including sites, events, and outreach sponsored by Lucky Mojo.

When you post, it helps your moderators, who are recompensed volunteers, if you post in the area of the board that is best suited to the archival of your question or comment. That way moderators will not have to move your post or merge it into ongoing threads.

If you can't find a post you made, it may have been moved or merged. Go to your profile by clicking on your name and "search recent posts" -- you will find it.

Within each board section there are STICKY threads -- ones that always stay "stuck" to the top. These are popular discussion-threads that you can read and add to if your questions or comments fall into one of these oft-broached topics. If you don't see a "sticky" that relates to your question, feel free to start a new thread in the relevant section.

We do have a few "thou shalt not" rules here, and they can be found in the Forum Rules link at the top of each page.

Most important for newbies are these five common errors to avoid:

1) Please do not come here asking for our formulas for conjure oils or for instructions on how to use spiritual supplies that you bought at a grocery store or at a competitor of ours; this is the Lucky Mojo Forum and is financially supported by the Lucky Mojo Curio Co.

2) Please do not post illegal copies of material from other web sites or from books.

3) Please do not post put-downs of any group of people based on their religion, race, or national origin, including derogatory comments about religions to which you may have previously been an adherent or comments in which you seek to falsely conflate any religion with the practice of evil sorcery.

4) Please do not start new topics; we have thousands of topic-threads already in place.

5) Please do not quote people by using the copy-paste function; it wastes space.

Hello, Lucibet, and welcome to our corner of the internet. With your background in Druidry, you will find a lot of explore in the botanical aspects of rootwork. There are THOUSANDS of free web pages to read at my various sites and this forum. I don't know of any one person who claims to have read them all, because i have been writing them since 1994 (and some pages are transcriptions of material i wrote even earlier).

Your interest in my course is great news -- and by picking up a few of the required reading books, you will be able to see if you want to pursue your interest further. Look for all the books we have published, including titles that are required reading for the course, here:

Lucky Mojo Publishing
https://luckymojo.com/publishing

The first one to pick up should be "Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic," which is foundational. You can buy them from us or from Amazon, where there are sometimes discounts on the prices.

So poke around, check out the offerings, and if you do decide to take the course, you will be ushered into a sort of internet inner sanctum where socio-cultural discussions are held and folk-magic is addressed as a topic in its own right rather than primarily as a series of spell-casting methods.

Nice to meet you! I am new here too, and looking forward to getting to make some new friends and hopefully take the course within the next six months or so as well. Maybe we'll wind up studying together 😁
