Cat, what a lovely page! You really did Michael justice...I have been
sending him a message to run down to NOLA and protect the city and there you go writing his page.

(That's why i did it. I was first taught about working with Archangel Michael in New Orleans around 1965. I always associate him with that city for that reason. And it looks like between him and all the other spiritual helpers folks have been petitioning for succor, the "worst case scenario" did NOT come to pass and we will still have the delightful city of New Orleans to call our own for years to come. --cat)

Also, placing a holy card of Michael on all the
entrances of the doors to your house keeps evil from entering. Did I get that from you or maybe another book you recommended?

(That would have been from me, probably: I first encountered little crochet-edged Saint Michael protection packets in Algiers Louisiana and got the information about how to make them and how to place them at the doors in 1965. I have taught that method for many years and have put the information on various web pages, on labels for Grains of Paradise, and in the book HHRM (on page 107). I do believe that Harry Hyatt collected similar information in the late 1930s, although he did not describe the little crochet-edged packets, to the best of my recollction. I have also long taught the relationship between Angelica Root and the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, and you can see that on the HITAP pages on Angelica and Fiery Wall of Protection as well. Thanks for the reminder to me to add the Grains of Paradise packet information to the Archangel Michael web page. I'll do it today and will link it back into the information about HHRM. --cat)

This question is probably for a Rabbi, but I have known practicing Jewish
folk who show interest in Novena Candles and I was wondering if it would be
appropriate for them to burn a novena as long as it didn't show any image of
Michael or any other angel for that matter. Also, I thought the notion of "4
Archangels" was christian and that there were originally 7. Anybody got any
information on this?

(Jason, the 7 archangels were Jewish for centuries before the creation of the Christian religion. They relate to the 7 planets visible with the naked eye. The early notion of the Jewish deity as a union of male and female relates to the Sun and Moon, The injunction not to make graven images is applied to YHVH (God), but not all Jews apply it to archangels, angels, or other beings. In fact, in Judaism before the reformation crafted by Moses, graven images of the God were not uncommon. -- cat)

-Slightly off topic but I was reading a book on Angels that had a Jewish
Folk tale that related a story on how Gabriel fell out of favor with God for
some reason and was actualy replaced as one of the 7 archangels. The author
then added that Gabriel's name fell off of lists on angels for about a century
and then was re-included. I would like to find out just what Gabriel
supposedly did to upset the big man. Another interesting tale told in the book was
when a man, sorry I can't remember the name, tricked Michael by stealing his
sword. Aparantly Michael in this story played the role of "The Grim Reaper"
and without his sword he was unable to claim any lives.

So true, most of the people I know in New Orleans are/were getting by
financially, but none could have been prepared for this kind of a financial and
emotional hardship. I'm so glad to hear the updates on this list about some of
the Occult shop proprietors and the Jackson Square readers, please keep the
information coming!

I had an email from a friend who it turns out is the AP Bureau Chief in New
Orleans, (I know her as a fellow tarot collector and we've never discussed
what we did for employment LOL), she evacuated ahead of the hurricane and is
fine but is worried sick about the City she left behind. Also received an email
from New Orleans based Basin Street Records saying that their staff and all
of their artists are fine, again they all evacuated out so don't know if they
have an office or homes to go back too, but at least they are alive and
well. Anyone interested in New Orleans music can check out their website and
