We will first meet Ashoka the Great, who ruled almost all of the Indian subcontinent from c. 268 to 232 BC. Why are we interested in Emperor Asoka? Because he was the first Buddhist Emperor, who completely disbanded his military and ruled according to Buddhist edicts.
