Spring Tidings!

Unread post by Grimzigga » Thu Apr 14, 2022 7:01 am

Good morning,

I have been studying folklore and magic on and off since I was a child. Back in those times, I could run like a wildcat through the dried-leaf-carpeted woods surrounding my home, stir rotten stump water with a gnarled, old stick before making a wish, and build village forts with the fallen limbs surrounding the tiny swamp that my home was built beside. Life wound its way, pulling me along to other necessities, as it tends to do, meandering like a slow river, during a dry Summer. Now, as I am reaching the middle of my life, I am feeling drawn back, not only to my Virginia home, but to deeper, more serious studies. I am interested in digging more to the root of magic and history, reading older works of the occult knowledge while stretching my ears to try to pick up on any slight breeze that might lead me toward older, regional tales. I feel the need to tune myself in with something deeper. I hope you won't mind if I sit a spell, ask questions, and delve into the vast library that is being offered here.

With Kind Regards,

Hello, Grimzigga,

You have come to a very good place to do a deep delve into the riches of American folklore and folk magic in general, and African American folklore and folk magic in particular. This forum contains a wealth of information about customs, beliefs, spell-casting, and herbalism, contributed by more than thirteen thousand members from 2003 to the present.

In addition, if you are new to Lucky Mojo, we publish a wide variety of inexpensive spell-packed books of folk magic, including annotated and revised reprints of classic "hoodoo drugstore" grimoires of the 1930s to 1940s. Look for them in the book section of the forum.

I also maintain some vintage-oriented web sites on American Folk Magic, including:

* The Mystic Tea Room at http://themystictearoom.com (tea leaf reading during the late 19th and early 20th centuries)
* Your Wate and Fate at http://yourwateandfate.com (popular divination and character analysis of the 19th and 20th centuries)
* Southern Spirits at http://southern-spirits.com (first-hand accounts of hoodoo and conjure from the 19th and 20th centuries)
* Herb Magic at http://herbmagic.com (19th and 20th century African American magical herb lore)
* Hoodoo in Theory and Practice at http://luckymojo.com/hoodoo.html (historical and contemporary hoodoo and conjure)
* Blues Lyrics and Hoodoo at http://luckymojo.com/blues.html (African American folk magic in 20th century songs)

The first three sites are supported by my wonderful Patreon subscribers at the rate of $2.00 per article per week; the fourth, fifth, and sixth, like this public forum, are supported by the sale of roots, herbs, books, and hand-made spiritual supplies at the Lucky Mojo Curio Co..

I'm sure you have been exploring a lot on your own but these are links to general information on Hoodoo to give you a jumping off point:

Here is some info on how the Lucky Mojo Forum is set up. It is divided into four major parts:

1) News and Announcements about the Lucky Mojo Curio Company and how to get free stuff.

2) Lucky Mojo Spiritual Supplies and how to use them, listed in threads by product type and product title.

3) Life Conditions and Situations, with recommended Lucky Mojo products, magic spells, and advice.

4) The Online Hoodoo Community, including sites, events, festivals, and outreach sponsored by Lucky Mojo.

When you post, it helps your moderators, who are recompensed volunteers, if you post in the area of the board that is best suited to the archival of your question or comment. That way moderators will not have to move your post or merge it into ongoing threads.

If you can't find a post you made, it may have been moved or merged. Go to your profile by clicking on your name and "search recent posts" -- you will find it.

Within each board section there are STICKY threads -- ones that always stay "stuck" to the top. These are popular discussion-threads that you can read and add to if your questions or comments fall into one of these oft-broached topics. If you don't see a "sticky" that relates to your question, feel free to start a new thread in the relevant section.

We do have a few "thou shalt not" rules here, and they can be found in the Forum Rules link at the top of each page.

Most important for newbies are these five common errors to avoid:

1) Please do not come here asking for our formulas for conjure oils or for instructions on how to use spiritual supplies that you bought at a grocery store or at a competitor of ours; this is the Lucky Mojo Forum and is financially supported by the Lucky Mojo Curio Co.

2) Please do not post illegal copies of material from other web sites or from books.

3) Please do not post put-downs of any group of people based on their religion, race, or national origin, including derogatory comments about religions to which you may have previously been an adherent or comments in which you seek to falsely conflate any religion with the practice of evil sorcery.

4) Please do not start new topics; we have thousands of topic-threads already in place.

5) Please do not quote people by using the copy-paste function; it wastes space.

Thank you so much for taking the time to join. We welcome your posts and hope to get to know you better.
