I am just catching up on posts here and I saw that you have this in the announcements of new products. I own a copy of an older edition dated 1966, which I bought in a metaphysical store in the 1990s, and it is really messed up as far as the printing goes. I will absolutely be picking up a copy of the new version. For one thing, the cover now makes sense to me -- it was just a blur before -- and second, when I compared your new table of contents against the one in my old copy, I can see what you have done. It looks like nothing has been deleted, but the order of the entries is more logical now in the chapters. This is exciting. I hope that younger and newbie practitioners will realize how important this book has been to us "old-timers." Good luck with this one.

I have pre-ordered this book. Thanks for allowing that, as I am in the UK and cannot attend the annual Festival.

I got my copy of this book in the mail. It was just like I remembered it, only better! I bought it in Chicago in the 1990s, and it had a red cover then and the text was bright blue. I loaned it out and it was not returned. :-(

The art is much clearer now, and the older illustrations (which are from the first edition, if I understand it correctly), were not in my previous copy. I like the green cover too.

Thanks for the great job.

I ordered this book from Amazon because Lucky Mojo does not ship to my nation. It is a charming book, filled with nostalgia. The recipes and spells are not a lot, but the legends are fascinating and the pictures are truly beautiful.

Thank you, Miss Cat, for making this available. I am ordering a copy as a present for myself. ;) Interestingly, Cora Anderson told us that Victor used this book decades ago (they had the third, abridged edition), with his own modifications. He used to burn his candles "in the trinity," as de Claremont describes. For example, Cora said he would dress a candle during the day, then wrap it in a clean white cloth folded into a triangle and keep the candle on his altar (so the candle would "absorb the power/so the power would be absorbed into the candle") till he was ready to do a "service." Then at the appropriate hour he would unwrap it, set it upright on the triangle, prayer over it, and light it.

Kalessin,

Thank you so much for sharing that. Victor Anderson, the founder of the Feri Tradition, was a true folk magician, and his knowledge of hoodoo, pow wow magic, and other cultural traditions was impeccably well-grounded.

I learned about the book "Legends of Incense, Herb, and Oil Magic," through conversations with members at Mount Zion Spiritual Temple in Oakland, California, in the 1960s. This church, under the direction of King Louis Narcisse, featured candle light services of the type described in 1941 by Rev. Adele Clemens and Mikhail Strabo in the book "How To Conduct a Candle Light Service," which i reprinted in the back of my book "The Art of Hoodoo Candle Magic."

If you go to the students area of the forum and look in "Your African American Video of the Day" and search for his name, you will find a link to a song by King Louis Narcisse, with many photos of the church -- and right before the end it includes a close-up of the stored and stacked candle trays he used on his altars, which i also have described in my book and at various workshops.

There is a continuity to our community, and it is important that we share these memories.

Thank YOU for sharing the information about Victor and Cora Anderson.

We are happy to announce the impending SECOND PRINTING of this once-rare, but now extremely popular old book. We have sent the files tothe printer, and we should have the new run of books in stock by the end of the year.

What a pleasure to know that people really care enough about this fine old Occult Classic to buy new copies, after all these years.

Thank you!

It's Facebook Fridays! for August 20, 2021, and we are giving away a magnificent prize -- a truly remarkable collection of metaphysical and magical books!

The Lucky Mojo Curio Company is holding a random drawing to receive 1 outstanding prize which we call the "Cat Yronwode Editor Special." Included in your box will be eight books on folk magic and divination -- one copy each of:
* "The Black Folder" by various authors, edited by Catherine Yronwode; A complete set of all of the flyers distributed through the Missionary Independent Spiritual Church Workshops, PLUS copies of all of the Lucky Mojo Curio Company's free spell flyers, conveniently collected into one oversize paperback book (8 1/2" x 11") printed to look like an old fashioned black report cover;
* "The Red Folder" by various authors, edited by Catherine Yronwode; This book contains hundreds of pages of instruction in the arts of divination and conjure;
* "Genuine Black and White Magic of Marie Laveau," by Zora Neale Hurston, Catherine Yronwode, et al; Hoodoo's first grimoire and spell-book, originally edited by the famed African-American folklorist and novelist Zora Neale Hurston, holds a historical place that no other conjure book can claim, for it provides the modern practitioner with guidance and training in authentic New Orleans rootwork, as it was in 1928;
* "The Guiding Light to Power and Success," by Mikhail Strabo, edited by Catherine Yronwode; This ground-breaking work was originally sold via ads in Black-owned newspapers, and it opened up a nation-wide conversation on the increasing importance of conjure work with candles;
* "Legends of Incense, Herb, and Oil Magic," by Lewis de Claremont, edited by Catherine Yronwode; From 1936, when it burst on the scene, until 2006, when it went out of print, Legends of Incense, Herb, and Oil Magic was an occult shop classic;
* "The Secret of Numbers Revealed," by Godfrey Spencer, Dr. Roy Page Walton, and Catherine Yronwode; Numbers are everywhere and all around us — but do you know what they mean and how to read them? This book explains the five branches of numerical influence on human affairs;
* "Secrets of The Crystal Silence League," by Claude Alexander Conlin, edited by Catherine Yronwode; Dedicants of the Crystal Silence League send thoughts and prayers of joy, health, strength, love, success, and protection to all, and, in turn, receive the fruits of mutually supported prayer;
and
* "This Amazing Book," by Sunrae Products Company and Catherine Yronwode. In 1947, when it was first offered for sale, This Amazing Book was a rural herbalist's delight. Published by the strangely obscure Sunrae Products Company in the tiny town of Ogema, Wisconsin, it was marketed via a series of small classified ads in popular do-it-yourself magazines, and gave traditional rootworkers an introduction to the convenience of mail- order supplies;

All eight of these amazing books on spell-casting, folk magic, herb medicine, and fortune-telling have been edited (and in some cases co-authored) by Cat Yronwode, and will be signed by her.

All you have to do to enter is to post a comment to the contest announcement on the Lucky Mojo Facebook page, Facebook Fridays! status message.

Co-hosts ConjureMan and Deacon Milett, with special guest catherine yronwode and announcer Papa Newt, present a walk-through of the classic illustrated hoodoo grimoire "Legends of Incense, Herb, and Oil Magic" by the pseudonymous author Lewis DeClaremont. First published in 1936 and now restored and revised by Catherine Yronwode as part of the Lucky Mojo Library of Occult Classics, this book is not only a snapshot of 20th century conjure, but a complete spell-book and guide to spiritual supplies and botanical curios. After that, we provide free readings, free spells, and conjure consultations, giving listeners an education in African-American folk magic.

The Lucky Mojo Curio Company is holding a random drawing to give away ONE magnificent spiritual supply prize. This week our prize is our much coveted Library of Occult Classics. This is a collection of rare early 20th century conjure spell books -- the kind that were sold in African-American herb, candle, and incense shops and used in Spiritual Churches of prior generations:
* "Secrets of the Crystal Silence League," by Claude Alexander Conlin (1919), compiled and edited by Catherine Yronwode and Deacon Millet (2019);
* "The Guiding Light To Power and Success," by Mikhail Strabo (1941), restored, revised, and edited by Catherine Yronwode (2020);
* "The Secret of Numbers Revealed," by Dr. Roy Page Walton (1914), Lewis de Claremont (1938), Godfrey Spencer (1939), and Catherine Yronwode (2019);
* "Terrors of the Evil Eye Exposed," by Henri Gamache (1946), revised and restored by Catherine Yronwode and Dr. Jeremy Weiss (2021);
* "This Amazing Book: Hoodoo Herb and Root Medicine," by Sunrae (1947), edited by Catherine Yronwode (2017);
* "Genuine Black and White Magic of Marie Laveau," by Zora Neale Hurston, et al (1928), edited by Catherine Yronwode (2018); and
* "Legends of Incense Herb and Oil Magic" by Lewis de Claremont (1936), restored, revised, and edited by Catherine Yronwode (2016).

The lucky winner will discover old-style rootwork and candle-magic spells for every condition; divination instructions for numerology, playing cards, crystal balls, and astrology; the uses of herbs and roots in folk magic and medicine; protection against the evil eye; the secrets of the talismanic Seals of Moses; and ancient methods for applying Silent Influence upon people to bend them to their will.
