I have looked everywhere on the internet for this, but just can't seem to find the answer.

What am I trying to achieve by soaking a person's picture in incense smoke? I know we can smoke our amulet, mojo bags, or doll babies, but there wasn't anything about smoking a person's picture. I have been doing this already, but I never questioned the effectiveness of this method, is it like smoking a doll baby, but instead of a dull made from herbs and clothing, it is just a picture representing that person?

Hello mastersirius678,

It would be considered another form of sympathetic magic, similar to working a doll baby. Personally I prefer making doll babies as effigies for a target because I can manipulate them with herbs, roots and the like, but you could try it with just their photo and see what results you get.

Good luck.

Some of my vintage and antique spiritual supplies. I have been a collector of items like these for more than 59 years. I hope someday to donate them to a museum, but they are pretty esoteric, so who knows if any museum would want them. In the meantime, I use them in teaching hoodoo to students of my year-long course and free apprenticeships. My services can be booked via the Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers as well as at Hoodoo Psychics (1-888-4-HOODOO extension 1111). I also give free readings weekly on the Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork Hour podcast. Sign up at the Lucky Mojo Forum for a free reading and rootwork advice. Hi Humble,

It depends on the work. Many cultures and religions use incense to send up prayers. If you want to do hoodoo work you can use incense to cover large areas like rooms you could not normally dress with oils or bath. You can incorporate incense into your work, by working with Mojo bags, removing evil spirits, and working with saints. Incense is short-lived, if you want a more complex spell I would use a candle or lamp.

Lucky Mojo has a massive selection of handmade incense, dhoop incense, and Joss sticks. https://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatincense.html

Humble,

In addition to the great advice from Mr. Christopher, you can read more about incense and ask questions about specific brands of stick incense in this thread.

Do you recommend crafting one’s own incense vs purchasing premade?

Is there a form of incense generally preferred, such as powder-resin on charcoal, stick, etc.

And is there a particular brand of charcoal tablets/disks recommended that burns “cleaner”? I’ve been looking at the incense charcoal made by the Japanese company Shoyeido, and theirs seems to be high quality. Any y’all familiar with their brand?

Lucibet,

Lucky Mojo creates its own incense using authentic recipes. You certainly make your own, and Lucky Mojo sells the supplies to make your own.

Do I recommend buying or making? I suggest that the average person buy the crafted incense that matches their intention and was created authentically to be best.

I do not think their is a preference, you may want to try them all and then determine which you prefer to work with.
