Spikenard Root Questions and Answers

Unread post by Pink kisses » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:27 pm

I ordered spikenard not too long ago from Lucky Mojo and it looked like broken whole roots. It doesn't look like 'chips' as it does on the LM page. (http://www.herb-magic.com/spikenard.html) Am I supposed to cut it up?

You can if you so choose to. however, it is not always necessary. While on the page of Spikenard a cut and shifted image of the plant is shown but doesn't mean it is required in order to work with it. One of the nice things I like about Lucky Mojo's Herbs are you can got whole pieces of the herb, which I personally enjoy. Best of luck to you.

Hi Pink kisses,

I love the large whole roots to work with. A single one in massage oil or a mojo hand is a powerful work all on its own. Obtaining the roots and herbs as they exist in nature is more a testament to their power than knowing that some joe blow ran rooty herb through a coffee grinder and massacred the poor thing's nature.

so break a piece of it off while you pray. I've also had my husband saw-slice whole large roots, the slices which I've then oiled individually, written on, and used as pieces in bags and jars of all sorts.

There is considerable variation in how finely these roots are cut, depending on who supplies them to us. We always prefer the more whole or broken roots supplied by individual wild-crafters to the mechanically cut-and-sifted roots supplied by large wholesalers -- but we cannot guarantee those will always be in stock, so we show the cut-and-sifted, which are the industry standard, and are always available to us, even though we try to always keep the whole or broken roots in stock.

Hi All --

OK, so I was gifted recently with a MOTHERLODE of Spikenard root from a friend. I mean FEET ad FEET of the root. Holy Smokeys.

Yes, I know I can break it up forever and ever in spells... but I was curious... are there traditional uses for whole, really big, spikenard root as is? Some of these roots are just gorgeous.

Thanks for your ideas!

Hey MagicMurphy!!

I don't know the shape of the spikenard you have, but since it's related to love and fidelity and marriage and such, I'd probably carve or configure the root into a doll baby or a doll baby couple to work for love.

Sounds like you scored!

Enjoy.

Hi Professor!! :)

I know, right???... a lot of folks in the forum know of this summer of reconciliation work that I had to let go of recently, and it wasn't just a couple weeks after that that a friend dropped all this spikenard in my lap.

Surely a sign.... right? :)
