Hi Ribena,

Open the bottle and smell it. Insolong as the oil doesn't smell rancid, it should be fine to use. If it does smell rancid it should be replaced.

Blessings.

I too have seen purple oils change color when left in the sun. Some have turned gray-blue. The scent remains the same. If there were many green herbs in the Victory oil, the green color could have come from an infusion of the herbs in the oil. As long as it smells right, it is good to use.

Ribena --

Coastwitch is exactly right. Purple is a notoriously unstable dye that fades in sunlight. Green herbs do make their own green extractions in oil over time, especially if the oils are warmed. Other herbs produce other hues. For instance, Alkanet and Red Pepper (which are NOT in Victory Oil!!!) leave red traces in oils. The only way to tell if an oil has gone bad (rancid) is to SMELL it. The dye can fade or change colour and the oil can still be fine.

But we do recommend storing oils in a cool, dry, dark place, to preserve both the freshness and the colour.
