Re: 2024 Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshop Plans
Are there any plans for a 2024 Hoodoo Heritage Festival? Is there a possibility of a Festival in the Winter months verses the Summer months? It's just to hot to be sitting in front of a computer when you can be outside in the Sun (not hot sun) and most people are on vacation especially since there is no pandemic now. The online classes were great during a time when no one could go anywhere. A change of season may work better. Just saying. Or maybe just venting since you say it's not up to you but the board.

Re: 2024 Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshop Plans
Hi, Patricia,
I have seen no messages from the AISC board indicating a plan for a 2024 Hoodoo Heritage Festival.
If things change, you will hear it here first.

AIRR has no plans for a festival in 2025. (I have moved your post and my reply to the relevant part of this forum.)

Why no more festivals? Not enough attendance?
I googled and I found a different event by the same name taking place in May in Nashville. I was disappointed to see it wasn’t by AIRR.

Re: 2024 Hoodoo Heritage Festival Workshop Plans
You would have to ask the board of AIRR about that. I ran the in-person festivals for 12 years, gave AIRR five years notice of when i would retire, fulfilled my 12 year promise, and no one took up the role. During that time i also wrote, edited, and published 43 books on folk magic, all of which debuted at the AIRR festivals., and all of which remain in print, providing royalty payments to the authors.
After my term as AIRR's festival director, there were three years of virtual festivals (coinciding with COVID), which were organized by other AIRR members, but after that, no one stepped up to coordinate any further virtual festivals. It is difficult for volunteer-run programs to outlast the enthusiasm of their founders.
Contrary to popular opinion, i do not run or operate AIRR. It is a volunteer program and its only income comes from membership dues and from splitting the income derived from selling the workshop videos from previous virtual festivals with the individual creators of those workshops.
My role at AIRR is now limited to coordinating AIRR's social media outreach by planning and writing the weekly additions made by the AIRR Tech Team to our online encyclopedia of folk magic. You can read more about the AIRR Tech Team here: https://www.readersandrootworkers.org/w ... _Tech_Team
During the past 5 years i have also turned to more personal projects, like finally finishing my free online book "Hoodoo in Theory and Practice" (which was put on hold during all those years i worked on the festival and ran apprenticeships) and funding the conversion of 14 years of our radio podcasts into YouTube videos, free to the public.
