Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hi everyone !
I have a question. I would like to buy a discreet work vigil candle for road opening.
So people told me to use BLUE like for the Motor city candle...
I thought about an orange candle but some people are saying it's only for blockbuster.
I also saw road opening candle with Orange, Green and Yellow...
So, I'm a bit lost. So much choice. Is there multiple color for road opening ?
Thanks for advice !

Hi Groundedboy,
Traditionally, Road Opener candles have been triple colored however people today may choose to innovate things as they such according to their beliefs about candle colors or simply their liking.
We cannot comment or advise on products that are not Lucky Mojo but here is a link to the Road Opener candle that Lucky Mojo manufactures.
http://www.luckymojo.com/candle-road-opener.html
Lucky Mojo products are made from quality supplies, materials, and done so authentically in the tradition of African American Hodoo.
Hope this helps.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hey. I was wondering if I could use a 7 day Catholic novena candle as a 7 day hoodoo candle? Not using it for a Catholic purpose, but for other work. I thought they could be used for what I need. They only have paper on them, so no writing on the candle.
I just completed two candle spells, with petition paper and both turned out great. I didn't know if maybe I could do another to help strengthen their power and further things along. Granted it has been a week since they were done, but I didn't know if it would help. I don't want to hurt what I am doing with the candles by doing more, but if I can.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hello, MFear, and welcome to the Lucky Mojo Forum --
I have done this myself, when i only had a pre-labelled Catholic candle around and wanted to use it for a different purpose.
I scraped the paper off with a razor blade and cleaned the glass really well, then i used a Sharpie and metallic Gel-Pens to draw pictures and write what i wanted on the glass. It took some effort to convert the candle, but i had no choice at the time, and it did come out very well.
If you consider it more as a spiritual art project than as a way to save money on candles, i think you will be happy.
Of course, you can always order labelled hoodoo candles, dressed and fixed, from our shop ...
See them here: https://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatcandles.html#vigil
Good luck.

Thanks.
What do you mean, "it took time to convert the candle?"
You mean getting the paper off? I heard running it over hot water with soap helps and it could me a hot with paper all around it. lol I can do it though.

Hi MFear,
I'm not Miss cat, but I think she also means drawing and writing on the candle to mark it with your new intentions. So, once you get that paper off with that excellent hot water trick, you'll want to take some time to write (as one example), Money Drawing, then mark it with dollar signs, or draw coins, or whatever makes it *feel* right to you as a Money Drawing 7 Day Candle (or whatever symbols are appropriate for the work you want to use it for).
It's a way of putting your intention into the spell and fixing that candle for your purposes.
I hope that helps!

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
MFear --
As a spiritual worker, there's a bit more for it to me than just getting the label off. The process falls under a type of work that folks like me call "re-making a candle."
I described some other forms of remade candles in my book "The Art of Hoodoo Candle Magic" -- for instance, melting down some wax to "mend" a broken free-standing candle or carving a free-standing candle to make it into a figural candle.
When doing this kind of work, the procedure is not merely mechanical; one is working on a magical and spiritual level at the same time.
So, in the case of a Catholic candle, there is a spirit attached to that candle. No, it was not placed there by invocation or petition -- it was simply a label glued on by a machine in a facory -- but slight as the connection may be, it is there.
So, let's say it was a brown Saint Anthony candle, for example, and i wished to use it for a secular purpose such as a court case, which also uses brown candles. Before i removed the label, i would address myself briefly and respectfully to Saint Anthony in Catholic terms (and note, i am not a Catholic, but i am a respectful person). I might say,
"Saint Anthony of Padua, beloved friend of Jesus, and supporter of all who stand in need of charity and who petition you for the return of lost loved ones and lost things -- i ask you to release this candle to my own use, for i am in need. I shall not call upon you at this time, i release you from this candle that you may go forth and support those who petition you. Amen."
Then i would scrape off the label.
After that i would burn it plain or (because i am an artist) i would draw my new symbols and writing on the glass with a Sharpie and Gel Pens.

Thank you for the further explanation, Miss cat! I was also wondering about whether or not to have a polite chat with the Saint whose label you might be scraping, and this has been super helpful.

Hello everybody,
1) I would like to know if anybody of you have used black candles to remove negativity or bad stuff. It seems that white color is more linked to this kind of job, but I feel like black could have a removal of negative issues connotation and not just for jinxing or reversing. Excuse me for this question if sounds a bit stupid but I'm new to this.
2) I also would like to know if you have worked on a broken candle or if that's important. I have a candle which I was about to use and it's broken in the middle. I have read just above how Miss Cat says something about mending broken candles.
Thanks everybody

1) I use double-action black/red, black/white, black/green candles to remove negativity. I use black candles burned upside down to reverse jinxes.
2) Yep, mending candles is just simple economy and good prcatice.

Hi Miss Cat,
When you say "burning candles upside down", do you mean to lit the candle on the bottom after put It upside down?. Excuse me if this can sound silly.
Thanks for clarifying!

Hello Alice Kyteler,
Burning candles upside down means cutting off the tip of the candle (where the exposed wick is) to create a flat surface, turning the candle upside down and carving out a new tip at what was originally the flat base of the candle.
Burn the new tip and let the candle burn down completely to the new base.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Wow Miss Athena, thanks.
I've never used a candle this way.
I'm taking a look at LM candle catalogue and the candles look high quality to me. That's the difference between beeswax candle and common ones, which are made normally of paraffinum.
I'm curious about those double action candles.

I'm wondering, I see different candle shapes and am wondering what exactly is the purpose of that and does it really affect a spell if you use for ex. A Adam and Eve candle or a person shaped candle ? I know colors of candles affect spells but I'm not familiar with what the people shaped or special shaped candles do . I purchased the candle book but would like a general idea

Hello Starhime13,
Many rootworkers consider figural candles to work in a similar fashion as doll babies, in that they can be stuffed with the target's personal concerns and work as a proxy for them. The link given above can provide more information.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

When you baptize a figural candle, be it a person form or skull candle, does burning the candle then release the spirit so you do not need to call the spirit out of it before disposing of the remaining wax?

Hello RisenRaven,
You wouldn't want to call your target's spirit out of the candle unless you wanted to end the spell. Burning it and deploying the wax remains are ways to carry that petition forward for effect on your target. You want their spirit to remain a part of that work for a successful outcome.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Good afternoon, I've recently been burning skull candles for my partner, for two weeks, one the week of the new moon and one leading up to the full moon, and they have worked amazingly. We hadn't talked in a month, this helped bring the way for communication. We have had some good talks but not rushing into anything, just trying to clean up the mess. I know from the full moon to the new moon is all about banishing and removing, is there a candle I can use to help remove negativity, maybe road opener, I didn't want to do anything focused on love just in case it removes the good I've manifested or should I just continue with my skulls... any tips would be great.

Hi Moonchild720,
Since the relationship sounds like it's moving at a steady and healthy pace, I wouldn't interfere with it too much. It would be like over pruning an already healthy tree.
An Uncrossing vigil is probably in line with the "clean up" you're looking for. You could light it on top of a couple's photo praying for all negativity to love be removed from the relationship.

Hello Sunny1973,
You can back up a yellow Steady Work candle with green for money, orange to blast through obstacles, or purple for victory over anyone threatening your livelihood. That's what first springs to mind. You can dress them with the appropriate condition oils (like Money Drawing for the green candle, Block Buster for the orange, or Victory for the purple).

Block Buster: https://www.luckymojo.com/oil-block-buster.html

Hello Ms.,Athena,
Thank you for your help. I have steady work oil on hand, can I use that and a yellow candle until I can get the others you suggested. I recently completed my steady work spell kit and am now looking for work. I also have my steady work, mojo bag which was part of the spell kit.
Kind Regards,

Hi Sunny1973,
According to the section on color symbolism in candles here on this Lucky Mojo page, since yellow/gold symbolizes money, yes you could. https://www.luckymojo.com/candlemagic.html#colour
Also white is often used as a neutral if you don’t have the correct color candle.
Best of luck!

Hello mana,
You could certainly try a red candle and see what results you get. It is not the traditional color for business spells for sales (I would go with green to represent money or yellow to break through and potential blockages), but try it see if it helps.
Good luck.

The Guiding Light to Power and Success by Mikhail Strabo, edited by Catherine Yronwode
Use in Magic:
This ground-breaking work was originally sold via ads in Black-owned newspapers, and it opened up a nation-wide conversation on the increasing importance of conjure work with candles. The author was a participant-observer and documentarian who respectfully verified the sources of his information from workers in the African-American Spiritual Church Movement, to compile a complete manual of home and church altar candle services for use in churches and by home practitioners. This famous hoodoo grimoire contains more than 50 candle and lamp spells for protection, love, wealth, and luck. Now, with 32 additional illustrated pages by editor catherine yronwode, The Guiding Light is back in print, bigger and better than ever. Chapters include: How to Set Up a Candle Altar, One-Candle Rites with Psalms, Seven-Candle Planetary Rites, Eight-Candle Sacred Octaves, Nine-Candle Catholic Novenas, Ten Ancient Oil Lamp Devotions, Twelve-Candle Zodiacal Rituals, How to Use Seals with Candles, and Candle-Magic Around the World. An inspirational occult classic, it remains a popular source-book to this day.

You could certainly try a red candle and see what results you get. It is not the traditional color for business spells for sales (I would go with green to represent money or yellow to break through and potential blockages), but try it see if it helps.
Good luck.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hi everyone,
At this moment i only have black, red and white candles. So my question is,
can i use a black candle to send back negative energy? Maybe with some reversing oil?
Or just pray one it to send back all negativity that was send to harm me back to its source.
Normaly i use a black and red reversing candle, but for now i dont have it.

Zipporah ,
Yes you can use a black candle dress it in reversing oil and pray to reverse the work. Another old trick is to take a black candle and rub it all over your body and direct the energy into the candle, do not dress it with oil, light it and let it burn, it will use the negative energy as energy to burn and remove the spell/crossed condition. I would then dress your body in Fiery Wall of Protection Oil to keep anything off of you.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hello,
I'm interested in ordering LM's Steady Work products to work regularly with them, specially Steady Work Vigil candles and the spell kit as well.
I was checking the catalogue out, while I noticed that Steady Work spell kit contains blue candles and the Steady Work Vigil is yellow (if I'm not mistaken). The white cross candle of the spell kit is very beautiful and I love that shape.
My question is why are there two colours for the same purpose?.Or, do the colours change because the spell kit requires specific colours and the vigil candle requires other one?.
I'm just out of curiousity about this, I found the whole SW line products sooo necessary for me, but the colour thing is peculiar. I have never read or known about blue candles for getting jobs as I have seen in the SW spell kit. I thought that for job matters yellow is the colour, even I thought that green was related to these matters.
Have a nice everybody and thanks for clarifying.

Alice Kyteler,
White candles can be used for any purpose, yellow is for success. I am not sure of the reason for blue in the kit, but knowing Lucky Mojo products and using their spell kits several times, I know the purpose of blue is going to be outlined in the spell kit directions.
You can read more about candle colors discussed on this Lucky Mojo Page: https://www.luckymojo.com/bluecolourcandle.html
As for Steady Work as a product line, I love it, it is great to get a job, keep a job, be successful at a job. You can also mix other oils with it for an intention, such as: Boss Fix and Steady Work to be successful and favored by the boss, Steady Work and Money Drawing to get a raise or better paying job, Steady Work and Attraction to draw a new job. You can learn more about oil mixes here: https://www.luckymojo.com/oilblends.html

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hi Jaydee,
Thank you very much for your response.
I had this doubt as I got the link of blue colour to peace, healing, protection and so on, but never heard of being a colour related to the job arena. I once read somewhere that blue promote friendships.
Speaking of yellow, in European folk magic it has a link even to money (because of gold), I think this is depending of the currency of every country, as Americans have green bills and for example in Europe, the highest rank bill is purple colour. But in general, green is for money as I have seen in many traditions.
Just was curious about that difference between the Steady Work kit candle blue colour and the vigil candle being yellow. Was taking a look to the catalogue and the Steady Work line seems very very interesting to me, and taking into account my situation, having a lot of problems to mantain a steady job, I want to give a try, and I'm also interested in ordering some Boss Fix products. I'm going to check the forum out to see the differences between Boss Fix and Steady Work.
I imagine I should perform a spell to remove obstacles first, and as I have read in the forum, orange colour suits best.
May I ask what is the purpose of a white crossed candle in the Steady Work spell kit and in general in hoodoo?, and, can these kind of crossed white candles be bought separately and employed for other spells? (just a newbie). I found them very very beautiful and for any reason I don't know, even have some kind of "powerful" iamge to me.
Well,let's give a try!
Thank you so much!

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Alice Kyteler ,
I dont have the spell kit on me, but the directions would explain why blue is involved and its use in this kit relating to the color meaning.
Money colors can be yellow/gold or even a grey/silver, as well as traditional green in the United States. Hoodoo is an American system of magic which is why these color associations are more common with the work, but if a country uses another color, and that speaks to use, such as the European color, then use that.
The vigil candle is yellow for success, the color associated with success in Hoodoo.
Boss Fix is a controlling type formula that gives you favor and control over a boss, Steady work is used you find, maintain a job, and even to get a raise, often used by those seeking employment. Condition oils are made to address a specific need, they are often mixed together to meet the unique need of the practitioner. An Example, If I am looking for a new job ,that is not drama like my last one, and I also want a boss I get along with, I would mix Tranquility, Steady Work and Boss Fix. I would dress this on candles I burn, on a mojo I carry, wear on my physical body, or items your boss will touch like a door knob.
White is a universal color that can be used in any working, and is often used in good work including blessings. These candles can be purchased separately under the candle section on Lucky mojo. They are used like all figure candles to bring in a level of symbolism and meaning to the work. They became very popular in Hoodoo through the Writings of Henry Gamache the author of several books including: The Master Book of Candle Burning, which he uses white Crusifix candles often in his works layout.

Hi, Alice Kyteler, this is cat --
Because you are working on a particular condition (Steady Work, a good job) and the conversation has drifted away from "Candle Choices: Shapes & Forms, Colours, Wax Types, Safety," i have copied and MOVED your post to the job-getting thread. and you will find it here, under your name, where you can continue your conversation with JayDee on that topic:

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
When a customer puts together an order for hoodoo supplies at the @luckymojocurioco i sometimes put on my fortuneteller hat and try to catch the vibe of what is going on in their life, based on their purchases. This person definitely had a "situation" to deal with, don't you think?

We don't judge, but we do think about this sort of thing -- unless the customer is a professional root doctor, in which case we assume the materials are for a client.
In this case, i could "read" sexual happiness, an end to fights, a divorce, a house sale, and spiritual clean-up after having done the divorce work. A woman with an outside lover? A woman who wants her married lover to divorce his wife, sell the marital home, and live with her? In either case, it is a fraught situation.
Of course i could go an entirely different way: Her sister is getting a divorce, she wants her daughter to find a boyfriend, and her mom is selling her house and moving to Florida! LOL!

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
AIRR Tech Team has created a new page describing the different types of candles and lamps -- a useful primer for newbies and a convenient reference guide for seasoned practitioners.

The AIRR Tech Team met today to ignite a new web page on Hoodoo Candles and Lamps. Candles and Oil lamps are a spiritual supply in the hoodoo and conjure tradition and play an important role in its practical expression; they are utilized in the construction of mojo bags, jar spells, and on altars or in acts of religious devotion. Miss Cat wrote the page and edited it and provided site-wide linking. Miss Michaele provided the graphic and she, Papa Newt, and Mama Vergi did proofreading. Nagasiva Yronwode was a proofreader and created the graphic announcement. Check out our illuminating page on Hoodoo Candles and Lamps!

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hi, I recently read that it may be better to use multiple candles for a single spell instead of just one. In other words, to address a problem from different aspects at the same time, you would use a candle for each aspect.
For example, you can use one for road opening, another one to keep a job, and let's say a person is trying to take your job, you will have another candle to bind them (so three in total) instead of doing three different workings.
Is the use of multiple candles for this effective?
Thank you

acamach1 --
Magic is an art, not a series of rules that can be proven to be effective. It is more like music than it is like installing a wiring harness in a 1941 Chevy panel truck. And because it is an art, there is more room for creativity and personal expression in magic than there is in auto mechanics.
When people come to me and say that they read in a book or saw on the internet that a certain herb is "more effective" in a magic spell than another herb, or that "multiple candles are more effective for a single spell" than a single candle (or a potted plant spell) i first ask them -- "what is the nature of your spell?"
Is it a plea for relief from distress? Is it a request for prosperity and luck? Is it a search for love? A demand for vengeance? How much of it is a spell of grace and how much is a spell of dictatorship? Is it the farmer's prayer for abundant rain during the growing season and good weather during the harvest -- or is it the boxer's prayer for the strength to beat the shit out of the other guy?
Next i ask, "Where does the power of this spell originate?"
Is it from a deitiy, an angel, or a saint? Is it a call to an ancestor, to a spirit guide, to the spirits of the land? Is it an allyship with the Sun, the Moon, the planets, or the stars? Is it the assistance of herbal plant spirits or the spirits of animals? Is it the creation of a personal link to another person whom one intends to influence in some way? Is it a welling up of personal power, desire, and command?
Once you know what kind of spell you are working and what is the source of the power that causes it to come into being, then you are ready to ask about the method.
Considering your physical situation and cultural traditions, your budget for supplies and your enjoyment of certain activites over others, your fear of discovery or your delight in speaking -- is this spell best done with a bath, with powders, with herbs in cooking, with candles, wth a walk into the forest or down to a river?
Then, if candles are selected as the method, what timing is convenient and what budget suits your purse?
Someone told you that "multiple candles are more effective for a single spell" -- so, if they know this for a fact (which i dispute), what can they tell you about timing these multiple ? One candle in the morning and one at night? Three candles in the morning and three at night? One candle per day for 49 days?
Are they recommending that you encloseg someone or some thing within a pattern of candles ... or are the candles to form a line leading from one place to another?
If the method is to enclose something, are they describing a triangle of three candles, a six-pointed star of candles, or a circle of twelve candles? If they state that three candles are "more effective" than one, ask them, "Are 999 candles more effective than three candles?"
I leave you with these questions and if you let me know more about the intentions and methods that fit your the spell, i will be glad to reply wth specific recommendations to suit your case.
However, in your case, you noted three candles, as follows:
1. to open your roads.
2. to keep a job.
3. to bind a person from trying to take your job.
I do not see these as "a single spell."
The two job spells -- to keep your job and to bind another away from taking your job -- could be worked with one candle each.
You could work for job stability with a Steady Work candle at the center-south of your working space (the Sun at noon, a high point) and the binding away of the competitor with an I Can You Can't candle at the west (sunset, removal) or at the center north (banishment to the darkness) with the latter candle being deliberately snuffed out to end the other person's interests.
You also could use another form of spell -- not a candle -- to bind the job competitor, such as a freezer spell, a kot spell, a railroad spell, a river or ocean spell, a forest spell, or a paper in your shoe spell.
The road opener work i would consider an entirely different spell. It has no opponent and stands alone. I would burn one Road Opener candle at the center of the working space to open roads to the East, South, West, and North. If there are specific goals, place a path of appropriate herbs or powder from the Road Opener candle to four smaller helper lights, each named and dressed for a specific quarter of the compass or for a specific goal.
Mikhail Strabo's book, "The Guiding Light to Power and Success" gives ways to burn candles as singles, in threes, in sevens, eights, and nines, and how to burn perpetual oil lamps. I edited a republication of this classic book and taught a workshop on it, which available for streaming.
The more you learn, the more you will gain in wisdom and peace.
