Howdy (from the Northern Midwest)

Unread post by allofthemwitches » Fri Oct 01, 2010 3:51 pm

Just finished listening to the radio show podcasts and figured I should say "hello."

My name is Bryan (from Michigan). I was born during a snowstorm on Good Friday in the Year of the Rabbit.
Aries Sun
Cancer Rising
Libra Moon

I'm new to hoodoo. Recently ordered Cat's 'Rootwork' book; it should be here on Monday.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in New Orleans and St. Francisville (Myrtles Plantation). We're convinced that Marie Laveau gave the Detroit Pistons an extra push that led to a world championship that year. She was given a Ben Wallace duck, and shortly after, a team nobody picked to win beat the Lakers. I'm also sure that she had something to do with establishing my career in human services. I've worked in public schools for six years. Didn't have the background for it, but excelled in working with kids and teens who need direction. Too many weird coincidences to think otherwise.

Anyways, a few years back I experimented with a ritual aimed at getting my wife a position at a local university. I wrote out instructions (candle magick, runes, Catholicism, and astrology), my wife performed the rite, and... she didn't get the position. An internal hire got the spot. Funny thing is, shortly after, she got a different (but related) position at the same university. A new department had opened up (one of the only ways someone from the outside has an opportunity to get hired) and the interviewing manager fell in love with my wife. Ali got the position. Her manager left shortly after and a new manager was hired (a woman who does not like Alisha). I guess my point is, everything fell in to place. I admit that I took a risk putting together a ritual out of a mish mash of different belief systems, but fortunately the correspondences were well enough researched for the spell to do its thing.

I've always been drawn to earthy magick. I love the clever symbolism, the aesthetic, and the practicality. It's a personal system, and I find that very important to any magickal practice. That said, I'm here to learn more.

My Background: I was initiated (as an honored guest) into the Ordo Templi Orientis around the year 2002. I'm not an active member, but I value the system. My primary focus is on the Runes and the Northern Tradition. In many ways my family is broken, Yggdrasil is how I choose to connect with my ancestors. When I'm not chasing my two year old around I'm usually reading (comics, science fiction & fantasy, Magick), listening to folk and/or psychedelic music, or watching professional wrestling (or reality television).

My Grandmother is Catholic. Hoodoo provides me a path to American Catholicism that allows me to practice in a sincere and honest way. Magick is my way of reconnecting broken roots and establishing a meaningful relationship with the universe.

I look forward to future discussions.
