There are many protection type mojo bags that are specifically worn under the clothing. The hamsa hand is part of a larger family of wards against the evil eye where seeing the actual ward is part of the protection, but there are lots of other types of protection that can be worn "under the radar."

Can anyone explain the significance of dark glasses with blue lenses as pertains to rootwork? I had never heard of it until recently.

Thanks!

I believe jwmcclin was asking for more information, your post was rather vague. I haven't heard anything about blue glasses so I'm wondering the story behind this as well, also wondering what it has to do with luckymojo...

According to Conjure in African American Society by Jeffery E. Anderson, Hoodoo practitioners often dressed in a manner that cultivated an air of mystery and strangeness. Dr. Buzzard did so by wearing purple-shaded glasses. Others wore unusual clothing, jewelry, or hairstyles.

Mama Micki hit the nail on the head. According to some sources root doctors often wore purple or blue-tinted glasses as a sort of uniform or badge. They were known by certain distinctive signs. This was not always the case, but those who sought that persona certainly adhered to such mannerisms and dress. Haven't seen it in recent years really.

I read about the blue glasses in a book. Dr. Buzzard was mentioned in this book.... "Blue Roots," I think the name was. It made me wonder what the significance was, that's all.

Honestly, I suspect the water and soap when you washed your hands pushed them and you didn't notice. that said, it's good to know about the properties of the bracelets and handedness.

My apologies if you noticed how I mistakenly posted this in the wrong forum! Anyway...

I'd like to make a "safe travels" rearview mirror decoration/amulet for my boyfriend. He drives all day long for his job; not only does his poor car endure a lot of wear and tear, but he's a pretty aggressive driver. He's Christian, so I think he'd feel uncomfortable if I handed him a mojo; hence, I have a brass St. Christopher medallion that I intend to glue to a large wooden button to create an amulet that'll hopefully look nicccce and non-threatening.

Do you guys have any suggestions for how to spell it afterwards? I've just ordered some Safe Travel oil, per HailDiscordia's suggestion. I also have pieces of comfrey root and feverfew that I got specifically for this purpose. Given my supplies, what do y'all think is the best approach? I've considered gluing pieces of comfrey root to the amulet, but it might look unattractive (though I'll totally do it if it'll allow the amulet to really pack a punch!). Would burning the appropriate herbs and wafting smoke over the medallion be just as effective, if at all? I will dress it with the oil (and perhaps dab some all over his car, teehee); do you think that would be enough by itself?

He's been in one really bad car accident within the last year (fell asleep at the wheel and totaled his car in a head-on--thankfully, no one was hurt) and recently popped a tire trying to avoid rear-ending someone, so I've been pretty darn concerned lately and really want to do something to help. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Had you considered gluing the herbs between the medallion and the button? That way not only will it look nice, but the odd plant bits won't bother your Christian boyfriend. Incense smoke is a VERY good way to consecrate amulets or talismans. As well as Safe Travel, you may want to consider getting some Protection products. My advice would be to get the bath crystals, and make up a batch inside a spray bottle. Then you can spray the car as you pray over it, protecting your partner from accidents and the vehicle from damage.

I too think I need to make a traveling protection spell or something for my boyfriend. The only thing I have on hand of LM products for protection is Fiery Wall of Protection sachet. I do have an extensive herb supply too. Any suggestions for this? Could I sprinkle the sachet around inside his car and pray and such. He has to drive constantly and often has his kids with him. He is open to hoodoo, I sprinkle sachet powders frequently in his presence. So I dont have to be sneaky. Which will make it easier. lol
Thanks

Mystic Rootworker, Fiery Wall of Protection is not the same as Safe Travel.

Fiery Wall of Protection is supposed to bring a flaming warning and even pain to anyone who enters the space or person you set it around.

Safe travel is intended to keep vehicles functioning, cause all people encountered along the way to friendly and helpful, to protect against accidents and theft, and to secure a safe return to one's home.

Seriously, the two formulas are not the same!

Do you have a copy of my book "Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic"? If so, look in the back for a list of herbs used in Safe Travel and craft your packet from whatever herbs you have on hand that are in that list. If not, get the book. For $14.95, it will save you a lot of time as you work with herbs in the conjure tradition.

Or buy a $6.00 bottle o Safe Travel Oil and use it to anoint the four corners of your vehicle, as was previously suggsted.

Miss Cat-
Yes I do have your book. I read through it daily actually. I love reading it. I am trying to learn everything I can.
I will definitely add Safe Travel to my shopping list. In the mean time I will go ahead and fix him something so he can be safe with all the driving he has to do. A friend and I were just going over the things we need so I can place an order. I completely forgot why I bought Fiery Wall of Protection. Now that you explained the purpose of it, well I am really happy I got it! I bought alot of sachets with my last order and have forgotten the use of some of them since I only use about 5 on a regular basis. I think they are doing a fine job for me, by the way. ;-)
Thanks

Have you reviewed LMs AIRR site? http://www.readersandrootworkers.org/in ... ootworkers

Here is a list for protection http://www.luckymojo.com/protectionspells.html

Here is a list of amulets/talismans http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatamulets.html

In the meantime I would recommend a cleansing bath until you get more information...which can be as simple as a salt bath (sea salt, table salt, Epsom salt, kosher salt) read about the uses of salt here http://www.luckymojo.com/salt.html

of course there are more involved situations especially if the issue is long standing read more about cleansing here http://www.luckymojo.com/baths.html#history

Have you considered a St Christopher medal? you could annoit it with the safe travel oil periodically. That is what I do. You could do the st chistopher car statue or key chain or any one of the products they have and use it. He is the patron st of travellers.

Firey wall of protection would also be helpful. You can do a vigil candle, annoit with the oil and spread some powder in the house and the kids rooms.

Please read the Luck W Amulet Archive page on the Evil Eye and other pages that come off of it, which contain links to the many different amulets we sell for protection from this sort of problem. The URL for the hub-page is

http://luckymojo.com/evileye.html

As stated above, the talismans are all for sale here:

It has recently come to my attention that I am in need of some protection, some one (looking at my ex/his harlot) has sent, what look like (when I meditate, look myself over in my mind's eye, etc) sentient tar balls, kinda like gooey tribbles, that seem to swarm me just as fast as I can take them off. I've done a couple uncrossing baths from what I have laying around and am waiting on FWofP candle and sachet powder + 13 herb bath to come in the mail any day now.
I'd normally order a FWofP mojo, but 1 I'm short on funds (thanks to this crud, I got a reading on it so yeah, this is why anything I get hired for falls through or turns out to be a scam) and 2 I plan on using this long term and don't want to get bogged down with mojos. I have some evil eye beads I'm thinking about making into a protection bracelet anointed with blessing oil then dusted with FWofP shachet with it placed at the bottom of the candle while it burns + prayer. What I'd like to know is if there's something else I should do/add to it to get the most out of it. Like I know where I can get a jewelry finding that would allow me to string a coin, so I'd use that for an indian head penny or mercury dime maybe, I also have a tiny jewelry vial that I'm thinking about filling with the sachet powder that way I have some at hand at all times or something of the sort. Am I over complicating things?
Any insight would be welcome.

Might I suggest and you might have to look around the net to find them but I know I've come across some places you can get them and you might want to do some research on which one applies to your situation. Getting a Keys Of Solomon Amulet to wear around your neck there are many different ones so do some research. I'm not sure if LM has any but I'm sure they also have good Amulets to wear as all their products are great! :) LoL

LM does sell some of the seals out of the Keys of Solomon, but not everyone is comfortable wearing those and not everyone is familiar with that particular tradition.

Idea for protection seems sound enough. If you want you can hire a professional to make you a protection talisman. I know Miss cat makes a mean protection talisman. You could look into purchasing one of these custom talismans from her or you can make your own.

It's just so weird, I've never had issues with keeping things off, I'm empathic so I know how to shield and everything. Plus I've never seen these little 'critters' before and I'm all kinds of freaked out. I don't see them like I'd see a person or an animal, it's like when I picture myself they're just everywhere! I know, it's so weird and almost sounds fake/stupid, I'd think so too, but I don't know, I don't know what they are or where they're originating from exactly, I just have suspicions. I really hope my package comes in this week; my simple rue, hyssop, salt baths seem to be temporary at best.

Ellis, you might consider getting a protection amulet from a professional like Miss cat. It would be well worth it and will give you a personal protection that will certainly deal with this nusance and anything else sent your way.

ShadowyEmbrace, in the amulet section under USA you'll find talismans from the renaissance grimoires and in the complete inventory list you can find the solomonic seals.

On that Lucky W Amulet Archive page -- http://www.luckymojo.com/evileye.html -- you will find that the use of red items for protection against the evil eye derives from different cultures than the use of the blue eye -- and nowadays, for fashion reasons, people not only use blue and red, but also yellow, green, black, pink -- you name it.

When preparing and amulet for use, you may say a prayer over it, oil it, or suffimigate it.
These protection Psalms can be found on the following Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers web pages, with notes on their use in hoodoo:

Psalms 91: Protection Against Enemies in the Hoodoo Tradition
http://www.readersandrootworkers.org/wiki/Psalms_91

Psalms 121: Protection Against Evil in the Hoodoo Tradition
http://www.readersandrootworkers.org/wiki/Psalms_121

Psalms 140: Protection Against Evil or Violent People in the Hoodoo Tradition
http://www.readersandrootworkers.org/wiki/Psalms_140

For example, you might try saying this prayer while you do the work of preparing the amulet; if you have a woman in mind, say "woman" instead of "man" and if you want general protection, just say "person" or "people":

Psalms 140
1 Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;
2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.
3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.
4 Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.
5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.
6 I said unto the Lord, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O Lord.
7 O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.
8 Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.
9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
11 Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.
12 I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Good luck,

cat

I highly recommend the sterling silver protection lockets that miss cat makes. I have one myself and I love it! You have to call the shop to order one--they are not featured online.

Miss cat's talismans are strong stuff. There arent' some mass-produced talisman either. She fixes each one herself. Highly recommended.

You can dress them lightly with Protection Oil then smoke them in the incense while praying the 91st Psalm.

Hey Guys,

This question is aimed for Cat, if you're listening :)

So about 9 months ago I was fortunate enough to have Cat make myself an amulet at her shop. I had it made specifically for protection of all kinds, among other things.

When I recieved the finished amulet, along side was a note saying " wear the neklace and when the chain breaks, it took a hit for you".

It's been months, and no problems. And I'm one who's hard on jewlery but this little thing you'd think is made of steel, I never take it off.

Today I'm out driving on an odd job for work, and BAM literally just barely missed what would have been a horrible car accident. Thankfully I was not hurt, my car missed an oncomig collision, and I somehow dodged it, and didn't even hit the curb. Mind you this was in a 2 lane canyon road with no rails.

I'm driving baffled, back to work at how I'm still alive. I get into work andlearn how I'm pretty much probably going to be let go. The reasons, seeming mostly due to financial hardship of my employer.

I leave work. I get in my car and start to drive home. I look down at my chest to grab my necklace (I do this out of habit) and I notice it's broken!!

The pendant thankfully had been saved by my bra, left hanging was a broken chain.

I get a phone call from my office manager, letting me know after evaluation and consideration I'm not being let go. In fact I'm being given a raise, and more promising position.

At this point I'm more concerned about my amulet more than anything else. I then thought back to the note. So I know I've been protected from something. What? The oncoming car? Financial protection of my job?

But now what? Words can not describe how unsafe and unprotected I feel now. I have immediately placed my amulet in my mojo bag, and have it on me until further instructions. I'm going to put some protection oil on it and burn some incense as well.

But how do I replace the chain? I assume it's far more than just buying another...

Any help?

Thanks in advance :)

Buy a new chain, as thin as the original. Do not use a thick chain, or you will never receive your warnings. Oil the amulet and pray over it and thank it for saving you from TWO hits in one day! Put the new chain on. Carry the broken chain to a crossroads -- or, in your case, to where the accident almost happened -- and drop it into the road. Drive on in safety.

Thanks you for letting me know how well this amulet is working for you.

For those interested in these. they are custom made and will take time to be made. You may inquire at the shop aqs you must personally request them and will be given a list of things to send to me. The cost is $60.00.

Cat,

Thank you for your guidance once again. I personally do want you to know how special this piece is you've made for me. I wear it every day.

I'll be praying over it tonight, and purchasing a chain tomorrow. The old chain will be properly disposed of.

Thanks again Cat,

Ohwhygeorgia

I had a reading done and I know now that I need to protect my home and myself. I found what I was looking for in the LM catalog for my home-- got an evil eye talisman and some Van Van Oil, and while contemplating what to get for protection of self, I realized that the unusual four-leaf clover shape on the label of the Van Van oil is identical to a very special and precious ring that I have worn for years. I do pay attention to the little things around me and I took this as a "sign" or an "omen" because of the coincidence.

I feel like this ring could potentially have a lot of my energy attached to it because it has been with me through SO much in my life. If that is the case, what would be the effect of anointing it with the Van Van oil-- is it possible to "transform" my special ring into a protective amulet? My line of thinking is that perhaps it could, and maybe become a powerful one at that, since it is already so connected to me. If so, how should I go about fixing it/anointing it? Or should I just scrap the idea and continue shopping for a protective amulet that was handcrafted for that specific purpose-- to be a protective amulet? :) The Van Van oil has been ordered but not arrived yet-- I've never used it before or done anything like this.

One more silly question-- what happens when it gets wet through showering, washing hands, etc.? In order for it to work, should I continue working oil onto it, or is the first time it was anointed sufficient to accomplish the protection I'm seeking?

I hope this is in the proper forum for this post-- I debated whether to post here or in the "oils" forum. And being that my question isn't about an LM amulet, but about how to use LM products on a potential amulet, I hope this is still okay to be asking here, I certainly don't want to offend.

Thanks to whomever could shed some light.

Van Van is one of the best and most often used oils for dressing amulets of all kinds. You have found a good link between the old traditional label and your ring! Great!

When I fix amulets for clients I do it over a period of days, usually a week but sometimes longer or shorter. So I would suggest that you anoint the ring with oil and pray over it for at least half an hour everyday for a week to fix it and get it set to work for you, once it's fixed I would suggest occasionally dressing it with oil and reaffirming your prayers over it, once a month is usually good.

I do hope that helps :D

Great advice here; I dress my amulets weekly after the initial ritual. I like to keep them strong and working for me.

Hi,

I am thinking about buying an amulet and I wanted to know what is the best one to buy.

I would like to find an amulet that protects from protection from envy, jealousy, harm and gossip; provides spiritual protection; and keeps away negative energies, curses and rebellious spirits.

I also want it to attract wealth, to show new opportunities, and provide guidance.

Sincerely,

Primarose220

Its really about what you are drawn to Primarose220. I recommend that you look through the list of Lucky Charms, Protective Amulets, Talismanic Jewelry and Religious Medals found here (http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatamulets.html).

On a personal note, I prefer amulet/talisman/mojos for specific purposes not a general one for all purposes.
