Ready to Learn AND practice
Greetings!
I go by Jibrael, and I'm from the Appalachian hills of West Virginia. Long story short, I am a practicing witch in the Feri Tradition, and am a lover of all things spiritual and magical. I recently acquired a copy of "Hoodoo Herb & Root Magic" from Amazon, and was deeply affected. In addition to it just being a great reference, I feel something in my blood reacting. See, I also recently took a class on Pow-Wow, and feel the same way toward that as I have toward this book: this is something in my DNA, something my family once knew but has mistakenly buried away and tried to forget.
So, I'm joining this forum, and am eager to learn more about authentic Hoodoo and conjure, and am also eager to put what I learn into practice. I am saving up for my first Lucky Mojo order, and am praying that if I am supposed to take the correspondence course than the money will come to me. Spent the last few days gobbling up articles on the site, and am excited about where this might take me.
Peace!

Re: Ready to Learn AND practice
Just sent my first order in! How exciting!
I ordered:
* An extra-large Queen Elisabeth Root (I'm going to make a pendulum out of it)
* Goofer Dust
* Black Arts Oil (not sure what to use these last two items for, but they seemed to want me to order them)
* Dixie Love Sachet Powder (again, just "felt" good)
* Some bath crystals devoteed to the 7 Japanese Good Luck Gods (for personal prosperity work)
* Black Cat Incense Powder (a sacred animal to me)
* Peace Water (have heard good things about it)
* "Secrets of the Psalms" (though I don't consider myself Christian anymore, it is the way I was raised, and I'm trying to re-connect with the power in the Bible since it is THE Holy Book here in Appalachia)
-Now, its just a matter of patience.

Hi Jibrael,
Black Arts Oil can be used for summoning spirits or to assist in destructive work, there is a thread on the forums you may be interested in checking out. black-arts-oil-and-summoning-spirits-t36.html
Goofer Dust is used in a lot of jinx work in various ways. There are more details found In Hoodoo in Theory and Practice here.
Best of luck and happy reading.
PS- Yay for your first order!

Re: Ready to Learn AND practice
Thanks for the thread on Black Arts oil. Having read through it, I think I know why I was directed by Spirit to order it.
Re: Goofer Dust. In a college course I took a couple years back we discussed Goofer Dust for an entire class period, believe it or not. The course was on Black Writers in America, and we did a unit on conjure and folk magic, which our professor had written articles on (I think). So, when I saw it on the LM site I knew what it was. What I can't figure out is why I felt an overwhelming need to order it, when I have never practiced jinxing, cursing, or anything of the kind. I have a feeling, though, that when the time is right I'll know why I ordered it.

Welcome!
I've done a lot of traveling and I must say - West Virginia is simply magical (tragic but magical). One of my prized possessions is a jar of dirt from WV. It will always be home to me.
