Hey everyone! Pleased to make your acquaintance!
I am a red-dirt country girl by birth who grew up with one foot in the Evangelical world and one foot in the Catholic world. I was born into goat, hog, cow, hay and cotton farming. Still not completely sure how I ended up living in the city, but I'm glad I am! I'm almost 21 and live with my parents while I go to college.
I got into Wicca and Witchcraft when I was in junior high, but was never completely satisfied with it and was always a little frustrated with the undercurrent of animosity toward the Christianity I had grown up with and seen work powerful miracles in the hearts of its adherents and on the world around them. With family from Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia, Southern blood runs through my veins; studying Southern culture led me to the unique blending of magical traditions that is Hoodoo. My mom is an official in the state's mental health department, and works extensively with the impoverished of our state to get them treatment for mental illness and addiction; this includes the African-American community, for which she has always had an enormous respect. We always used to kid her about her love of movies like Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins and Barbershop (both great ones!) until I started researching our genealogy and finding out that we actually have some slave heritage, even though we're day-glo on the outside! I guess your ancestors really are always a part of you.
I hope eventually to enroll in Lucky Mojo's course. In OKC we have a HUGE problem with fraud psychics who follow canned cold reading scripts; I'd love to be able to provide an alternative to them and have been developing my own natural gifts to that end. Someday I'd like to write, teach at a University and work roots on the side.
My personal beliefs are kind of a cocktail of Native American, African American, Vodou, Catholic, Protestant and Eastern and Western non-Christian beliefs. As I say on my profile, my real religion is Love.
I'm glad to be here and hope to meet everyone in turn!
