Re: Hi I am new and would like to introduce myself!
thanks everyone! well first off, i'd like to know some history behing hoodoo. i was raised catholic, spent 11 years at catholic school and everything. but when i graduated from there and started becoming more independent, i really began looking into hoodoo and it interests me so much and it seems like my beliefs are similiar and related to this.
i was also wondering how spells and rituals and all that work. like...are there specific ones or do people make them up themselves and if so, how?

Below are the answers to your questions and much more.
http://www.luckymojo.com/hoodoo.html Here is the link to Miss Cat's online Book, Hoodoo in Theory and Practice, available free online and filled with information. In the pages you will see words in red they take you to more pages, follow them.
"Hoodoo African American Magic, HOODOO ROOTWORK: Definition of Terms: How I Define Hoodoo", by Miss Catherine Yronwode (Below is the link to this article within Hoodoo in Theory and Practice)
http://www.luckymojo.com/hoodoohistory.html#hoodoo
"How to Practice Hoodoo Candle Magic", from Hoodoo in Theory and Practice:

With this page as you will see when you go to the link begins with this link in red:

You should read Miss Cat's Online Book in It's entirety.
When you are stuffed full of this great information, here is some information to get you started on spells,
http://www.luckymojo.com/spells.html
Again all free information available online.
By the time you have finished reading, (or before
) you are going to want to purchase something, and here is a link to The Lucky Mojo inventory:
http://www.luckymojo.com/lucky-mojo-inventory.html
Included in that first order should be Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic, by Miss Cat, this is her published Book and will also give you a good understanding about the products, herbs and roots that we discus here daily in The Forum.
