There is a whole page on the different types of incense and how to burn them.
http://www.luckymojo.com/incense.html

The Nag Champa incense are my personal favorite, in terms of stick incense.

http://www.luckymojo.com/nagchampa.html
http://www.luckymojo.com/superhit.html

The Lucky Mojo incense powders smell as wonderful as the oils....I love the Van Van of course. If you have a particular oil that you like, try ordering the corresponding incense. They are self-lighting and I like to use them just for the scent sometimes..Peaceful Home is another fave.

http://www.luckymojo.com/incense-van-van.html
http://www.luckymojo.com/incense-peaceful-home.html

I have also ordered the Rose Variety pack and that smells really good as well...if you like the smell of Roses. These are stick incense as well.
http://www.luckymojo.com/wonderfulroses.html

If you are confortable with resin incense (as these are generally burned on charcoal disks)...I like the Dragon's Blood and I also burn Frankincense along with Myrrh. You will need some kind of brazier for these as the disks get really hot...usually you put some salt or sand in the brazier to protect it from the heat.
http://www.luckymojo.com/incensebraziercopper.html
http://www.herb-magic.com/dragons-blood-resin.html
http://www.herb-magic.com/frankincense.html
http://www.herb-magic.com/myrrh.html

Keep in mind though that scent is pretty subjective...so what one person likes , may not smell as good to another, but who doesn't love the smell of Van Van ;P

Hope that helps :)

I personally like the Super Hit for it's pure, strong scent. It is extremely pleasing to me. It has stayed a consistent incense for years.
http://www.luckymojo.com/superhit.html

I also am very, very fond of the delicious Sandalwood scent of the Mysore Sugandhi Chandan Dhoop Incense Logs. these are dryer than most of the dhoop I have used and produce a lighter, airy sandalwood scent. A constant in our home!
http://www.luckymojo.com/chandandhoop.html

On the topic of dhoop, the Laxmi Dhoop Logs are wet, sticky and burn for HOURS! I have noted that different people either LOVE this incense or HATE it. IF it's for you you will be buying multiple boxes. I thought my wife would hate this and she loves smelling it burning. Just remember that it is a "windows open" incense --- or be ready for a completely foggy home! These are good for money drawing work too...
http://www.luckymojo.com/laxmidhoop.html

The most approachable and lovely scent that will please is the Green Champa. In the last store I managed we burned this and customers went crazy over it and bought us out. Very nice, fine scent.

I've never worked with incense and I notice on MJ attraction spell kits it says to put incense into cones and then turn out of cones, I'm not sure what they're talking about. Do you burn the incense in the incense burners without cones or loosely by itself in the burners?

I have a few different incenses that i have recently started using:

John The Conqueror
Come To Me
Money Drawing
Attraction

My question is basically about technique. When i light my inscense, i have at least one candle burning. Sometimes i have a white, red, and green one burning at the same time.

I usually shower before i begin. I light my inscense and get relaxed. I usually have some quiet meditation music in the background. I then close my eyes and focus on my 3rd eye and begin to visualize the end result of whatever im wanting. I will do this for about 10 mins. Afterwards, i give thanks to the Universe and ask that no one be harmed in the way of my desires manifesting.

Just wanted to know is this a good way of doing Incense Magick?

Any imput to improve my technique is welcome...

Thank You...

:)

Hi Turk1975,

In the hoodoo tradition, incense is often used as part of spell-work rather than as a magickal practice in and of itself; you can read about the use if incense in conjure here: http://www.luckymojo.com/incense.html. There are a couple of exceptions such as when a person or place is ''smoked'' to remove crossed conditions, or protect them. Mojos can also ''smoked'' when being brought to life. Another such exception would be the burning of either incense; herbs; sulfur; or a combination thereof, on an enemy's property to cross them up. In these cases, we're talking about the smoke of the incense itself or the object burned being the active agent in the magick.

Incense is also a potent agent to carry your messages to God (or another spirit, person and/or place); again this is often within the context of more elaborate spell-work. In this regard however, meditation and visualization exercises as you describe below are fine and if you're getting results - then you're doing it right.

Blessings and best of luck.

I ran out of sand in the bottom of my incense burner.

Devi, you mentioned that salt can be used in an incense burner, does that include table salt? If not, what about mud?

Can uncooked rice be used to line the burner also?

I am a bit new to using incense in magick and am wondering if it means anything when the incense smokes really alot? I had to open my windows and turn on the fan just to get it out of the room because it was smoking so strongly. I hope that doesn't mean anything bad. :? If this is something regular, I think I will just use oils or my soy/beeswax candles in the future.

Hi Faerielady,

if you're burning loose incense in a cone or on a brazier, it will smoke quite a lot and that's normal. You can make smaller and narrower cones of powder or use less at a time on your charcoal to reduce the quantity of smoke produced. You can also switch to incense sticks like these: http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatincense.html#agarbathi

It can take a bit of practice to get used to working with the self-lighting incense powders but it is worth every bit of time you spend :)

Blessings and best of luck.

Hi, Pristenella. I have found a great way to burn loose herbs blended into incenses.

I first light a charcoal disk and place it on my brazier, then add the loose herbal incense blend.

Then atop that I place a cone of LM self-lighting incense powder, but do not light it. I allow the charcoal to burn up through the herbs and into the bottom of the incense cone. The result is a very steady, long-lasting burn. The incense powders actually coal over, like a banked fire.

The LM powders give my herbal blend an amazing fragrance and produce a lot of lovely smoke.

I have used this technique several times now and really enjoying burning incense this way. I also like crafting my own incense blends, but I have to say I am 100% sold on the LM self-lighting powders. They complement my own mixtures wonderfully and I can't wait to try more varieties.

How do you actually "smoke" a person or oneself with incense?

Do you light it, than blow it out like normally than how is the smoke applied to the person so that they're Smoked?

To answer your question, there are a number of different ways to fumigate a person. I was taught that it's disrespectful to blow on incense, although your mileage may vary. ;)

The simplest way would be to just waft the smoke over the person with your hands. You may find it easier to place the brazier on a safe surface and have the person stand over it with a leg on each side. A little "quick and dirty", but it serves.

Another option would be to make a bundle of fresh herbs to fan the smoke over a person whilst simultaneously stroking them with the herbs held in the other hand in the appropriate direction; e.g. head-to-toe for works of removal and cleansing, toe-to-head for works of drawing and attracting. I've used fresh rue, basil, and rosemary this way although those herbs may not be appropriate to every work.

A paper fan, or more commonly a feather fan, could also be used in a similar fashion. Lucky Mojo sells a wonderful black chicken feather duster that could be used this way and also do double duty by giving the person a good old fashion sweeping.

You could also set the brazier on a safe surface and set a chair over top of it. Have the person to be fumigated sit in the chair and drape a large sheet around them to contain the smoke. This works very well, but be sure to keep the sheet clear of the burning material.

Lastly, a thurible could be used to gently swing the smoke towards a person. These are the type of chain censers that you can see at a High Mass or Orthodox Divine Liturgy.

For incense braziers, thuribles, charcoal, and feather dusters, see the Altar Tools and Ritual Supplies page.

Tristan, would this method also be effective on a doll baby or a figural candle?

RhiannonWyt -- Yes, this would wok on a doll baby or a figural candle, and in fact it is a common practice.

I have recently been using some negative incense while burning black candles on top of a vinegar jar. I like the added layer to the work but am a little concerned about cleaning the space after using the incense.

I have 2 questions:

1. Will this negatively affect my dog who is sometimes in the room while the incense is burning? He's not bothered by the smoke. I'm more concerned with the energy. Should I lightly spritz him with the chinese wash/water spritz that I use to wash my hands? I've also got some Peace Water and Florida Water but the Florida Water is a bit heavy for a dog.

2. I have a love altar across the room, about 10' away. To what extent should I clear out the smoke from the incense to keep it from affecting my love altar? The work done on each side of the room is complicated and meant for the same target, although obviously from different angles. I have been spritzing a chinese wash/water solution from floor to ceiling in between the two altars after burning a black candle and/or incense and after the smoke has cleared the room prior to working with anything on the love altar.
Thank you, St. Francis, for your protection.

You can do one of two things, keep you pet away from your negative work or follow your recommendation. After doing negative work, it is advised to cleanse your entire area as you seem to indicate in your post.

Thank you, jwmcclin!

I think I'm going to get another spritzer for some of the Peace Water and spray it around to settle down the space afterwards, too.

PS...the dog smells GREAT, now. A little diluted Chinese Wash spritz and some healing oil on his temples does wonders!! Thanks, again.

For my spell, I've been making cones mixing Money Drawing, Money Stay with Me, and Steady Work incenses. 1/2 tsp each of the first two, and 1/4 tsp of Steady Work. This has been as part of a larger combined Money Drawing/Money Stay with Me spell, in conjunction with a lodestone sitting atop bills and a green 7-knob candle.

Anyway, just now, I lit the tip of the cone, and as always, it burned for a moment before the flame went out and it started to smoke, per usual. However, after it burned down some, it caught flame again for a moment before settling back down to normal.

Has this ever happened to anyone? A cone of incense re-igniting like that? Do you see it as a sign of anything, or a purely physical/chemical reaction?

Any input is welcomed. Thanks!

I can't offer insight on any possible oracular significance, but I've even had stick incense catch a hot spot and reignite before.

I think this may have something to do with the amount of moisture in the mix. My charcoal disks have been doing the same lately, lighting, starting to burn as normal, going out, then suddenly reigniting and ... even exploding. Also remember the fire still burns under those ashes of the cone, it's possible they stayed smoldering even though you thought it was out until hitting some extra dry powder or a bit of herb to re-ignite.
Thank you Saint Martha for hearing my petition and for your ongoing good works for myself and others.

heartexalted, it happens. After all, you are working with Incense...sometimes it will not burn all the way through and sometime it does.

I just received my kit. The instruction says: "Make a bit of the Essence of Bend-Over Incense Powders into a cone (use a twist of paper, pack the incense in with your finger, and turn it out of the cone)." Can someone explain what the "turn it out of the cone" means? How do I turn it out of the cone? Thank you

It just means to turn the paper form over to let the cone of pressed incense fall out.

I am just starting out with conjuring and I have a simple question. If use smudge sticks or other incense sticks for cleansing items or areas of my home but I don't use the whole stick, what do I do with the remaining portion? Is it harmful to keep it around and use it again? Like wise I have some incense coils that I burn on sand or salt in a bowl. Should I dispose of the contents of the bowl every time I burn it for a specific purpose? Your help in greatly appreciated, Thanks/ Bless

There are different approaches. The most traditional way to dispose of left over bits from spell working is to take it a crossroads. Some prefer burying the items at your home - back yard for things you want to stay, front yard for protection items. Never bury crossing work at your house. Another option is to throw it at a big strong tree. For me it depends on the material. I avoid putting anything toxic in my yard or at the crossroads - too much salt will kill plants for instance.

There are also plenty of people who reuse items. I think for functional items like sand and incense sticks, use them up or reuse them until they are gone or too dirty or messy to be respectful.

My favorite approach is from Dr. E who takes the material to the crossroads, ceremonially gives it over to the spirit of the crossroads but respectfully disposes of it with his regular garbage instead of leaving it there.

Since these are just for regular cleansing I think it would be okay to thank the spirits involved, wrap it up and throw it in the garbage.

miss cat has a great summary of all of the different options here:

For incense sticks it is traditional to dispose the ash in a proper manner, but to reuse the rest of the stick. Remember that Conjure derives from people who were often poor and therefore things were not disposed until used.

Same with a packet of incense. If you use half the incense, you only dispose the used porition, not the unused.

I am awaiting my order of attraction incense powder; money stay with me incense powder and the attraction spell kit.
I have been trying to read up on this forum as this is my first time doing something of this nature. Being the very careful and analytical Libra that I am (Oct. 5) I don't want to get it wrong when I get my package.
I have so many questions about EVERYTHING....and I want to learn/take the course. I am drawn to incense and candles naturally and have been told that I'm an empath needing to hone my skills.
I am seeking help for the following concerns:
1. My house has been in limbo for the past 3 years. My husband was deported and the mortgage companies claim they don't know how to proceed. The mortgage has changed hands 3 times to my knowledge. I do not want to be put out on the streets. I have tried ptriedaying, but they return my money.
2. I am not happy on the job I have, but I need to retire from this job to ensure I have something in my old age. I am a school teacher whose bosses and administers play favorites with the locals. The students are unruly and the powers that be along with the parents are no help with behaviors_they expect those degenerate behaviors. I also have a colleague who gets her way of sending the most difficult students to other teachers~mainly me regardless of their levels. I need peace of mind; success and security and more money (a second job). Is it possible to "fix" my
classroom in some
way? I was told that some kids may be sensitive to any magick that I may use.
3. I believe that mymind husband may have worked something on me. His father is Nigerian Yoruba and he believe in Orishas. I will not go to him, plus want a divorce as we were separate before his deportation. He touched my daughter inappropriately.

Hi Diana:

1. You need to get a lawyer to help you with the mortgage on the house. If you can't afford one, talk to Legal Aid in your city or town and they can help you for free or low-cost. Use some of the Attraction supplies to attract a good and fair lawyer to you.

2. To fix and cleanse your classroom I'd wash it down with a cleansing and uncrossing bath first to clean out the bad energy. Lucky Mojo's Uncrossing, Cast off Evil and Van Van bath crystals are great; you dissolve them in water and wash the floors and walls from back to front. Throw the used bathwater out off the school property. Then come back and dress the room with oil (dab a bit of oil on the doorknobs, windows, etc) that allows you control and calm over the kids. I'd try Tranquility and Clarity oil, or either one.

3. YOu need to get a reading to find if someone actually did work on you. Check out AIRR http://readersandrootworkers.org and schedule a reading with a worker. In the meantime take a cleansing bath with the products I mentioned or ask your worker what's the best cleansing bath to take for you.

Good luck,
Mary Bee

Thanks....of the 4 lawyers I consulted, they all gave me poor advice in consultation (meaning~ they each gave me differing information about a divorce and one told me to work out a deal with the bank, before all of these years passed). I'm not feeling to confident with then based on my experience with them and advice on what to look out for by attorneys I know who aren't licenced to practice in my state.

In regards to the classroom, I have carpet.
And is there nothing to do about that coworker who I believe is working her own tricks.
I would love a reading.

2) ! intend to use it to smoke my mojo bag. do i burn it all the way down?

3) Also due to privacy, i intend to burn it in my room with windows closed and all, with only air conditioning on, is it ok?

redcase1,

1) The way to make powder incense into cones is shown here, with photos:

http://www.herb-magic.com/incense-powder-cones.html

2) One small cone's worth will be enough for smoking your mojo bag. You may save the rest for future use.

3) Yes.

I deleted your query about candles from your post because it is off-topic for this section of the Forum. This is the incense section of the Forum. Please ask your questions about candles in the area of the Forum about candles. Thanks!

Wow! I got my very first package of self lighting incense from LM. I could not believe how easy it was. I just rolled a piece of paper into a cone, poured in some John the conquer incense, and instant incense. I love not having to burn it on a charcoal.
And the smoke that it gives off which is not a lot of all, but - I have never seen such beautiful smoke. I was mesmerized. The scent was not overpowering at all.

Being a newbie I am very happy with my products. I wish I hard learned about lucky mojo a long time ago.

I made a video on how to light self-lighting incense, featuring Lucky Mojo brand Psychic Vision, Love Me, Jinx Killer, Peaceful Home, Money Drawing, and Dr.Jose Gregorio Herdandez Incense Powders, by the way!. The video shows you how to burn it. I don't put my incense into a cone, I just shape it into a pyramid by pinching it with my fingers and that seems to work fine.

You can check it out here: http://youtu.be/2iczJ4915VI

Hi everyone,

I try not to be superstitious and I will ask my AIRR reader next time we talk, but in the meantime I'm a little panicky.

I've been reading on here that people just aren't using incense enough in conjure. I have been lighting candles over a honey jar and decided to incorporate incense into that and other workings.

I took a little bit of Fire of Love incense, placed it into an incense bowl (black and squat with pentacles on the four sides), and lit a few spots with a lighter. It smoked a little bit but smelled more scorched at times than anything else.

Once the flames were out, my hand slipped and I dropped the incense bowl onto the carpet. Mind you, there was no fire started (it's just a mess to clean up) and the bowl did not break, but I'm wondering what (if anything) this means.

I can be a bit of a klutz. I also had Follow Me Boy oil still on my hand from anointing the candle I was burning over the honey jar, so that could be a factor.

Any advice would be great :) Thanks!

Hi poeticone, This sounds like a simple accident to me. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Plus, it sounds like you will be able to speak with your reader soon enough and if anything is amiss your reading should be able to reveal that.

Best of luck!

Lara

I am waiting for my LM incense powders, but am making my husband a COS bag for school this weekend and was wondering what type of incense should I use while making it (to smoke it)? I have charcoal and traditional herbs and I have sticks. I also have LM COS oil, KS oil and Van Van OIl if that's helpful (I plan on dressing the mojo w/the first two oils and use them to feed it.

I haven't received my products yet :( They're supposed to be in sometime this week. I was hoping there was something I could use until then. I'm making two mojo bags and the second one I'm waiting until I get my supplies from LM.

Good Morning, Bewitching redhead,
While your waiting, inscribed a small white (or yellow) candle (I say small because when you receive your LM products, you'll want to stat that work immediately) with the word: "Success" in a spiral fashion, in an odd number of times without a break in the words, It's usually 9 times but if you're waiting for your products, just use a smaller candle and fit that word as many times as possible. Anoint the candle with Crown of success oil.
Make a petition paper (see forum thread on petition papers) and anoint this in a 5 spot with the same oil. Fold accordingly. Place under the candle.
Then, pray. I LOVE praying the Psalms. Here is a list of them that will help you to decide which one to pray: http://readersandrootworkers.org/wiki/C ... _of_Psalms
When the candle burns out, just repeat the spell until your products arrive.
Hope this helps
Take care
