Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
All of these techniques for timing, and many more, are described in my "Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course." I describe them to clients all the time, too -- just seems that the "internet experts" don't want to be bothered teaching the wide variety of work really contained in hoodoo (or never nkew it), so you won't find these things online -- but you can learn them from actual practitioners. Harry Hyatt collected his interviews in the 1930s -- the same types of things were told to Newbell Niles Puckett when he interviewed practitioners in the 1920s -- and i was taught them in the 1960s and 1970s -- and i still teach them today. But not online all over the web.
As for writing names backwards -- we do it all the time, for various reasons. You can learn more from real practitioners than on the net.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
The use of the specific Jewish-style grinoires containing planetary sigils by old-school African American rootworkers has been documented as early as the 1930s. The use of other grimoires, such as those attributing herbs to planets is a bit more recent, dating back to the 1960s. To draw clear connections about these matters, you would need to do more research and become more familiar with how hoodoo was marketed and to whom and by whom, and to know which books were available when and where from which distributors.
For more on the use of grimoires and seals in hoodoo, see my "Hoodoo in Theory and Practice" page on the history of hoodoo: http"//luckymojo.com/hoodoohistory.html -- with links to pages on those grimoires.
Hoodoo has two streams of transmission. Most of it is carried by word of mouth within the African American community, but since the 1930s, book-learning has always been a second stream of transmission. Also be aware that hoodoo is regional, some of it rural, some urban, and that it is not a monolithic entity.
See, for example, our reprint of this book from 1936, sold nationwide in hoodoo candle and herb shops:
LEGENDS OF INCENSE, HERB, AND OIL MAGIC: Esoteric Students' Handbook of Legendary Formulas and Facts

I have been advised through my AIRR reader, to begin a Honey Jar this Friday. I am under the assumption, after reading that link and this thread, that I will be fine with this matter. Mercury being retrograde will not affect this.

Good Luck in your work dj10 / prayer10 .
Many people would not start a new spell while Mercury is retrograde, so the choice is up to you.

On that note,I've been taught that doing banishing, uncrossing or breakup work with Saturn retrograde is actually more powerful because it goes back to the roots of the problem and totally gets it where it begins. Any opinions?
Also since Jupiter is about to go retrograde would you do a jupiter spell or do it on a sun hour and day instead,so it will not be affected by the comings and goings of Jupiter?

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
It would depend on the situation. Just because Saturn is in retrograde does not mean that you cannot do uncrossing work or break up work. I personally do my break up work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Saturday.
So for Saturn retrograde it may be about you having to revisit matters that are under the influence of the break up work. So if you have been doing break up work on someone, and you have not been working on it for quite sometime then it is okay to go back and work on it. You should RECONSIDER, and REASSESS.
On the other hand, if you have been working on break up work, and its not working then you may want to revisit and reassess your plan.
In terms of banishing, you may want to visit what has been holding you back in the past and get rid of it.
Saturn has to deal with limitations, and obstacles, but during this time the limitations may be alleviated;however, we may become doubtful of opportunities and be our on biggest obstacle when there isn't an obstacle present. It is about revisiting past obstacles, and taking steps to work through them. But its also about awareness about these things. Its not that you cannot work through the things that Saturn rules, you are just going to have to work through them, and accept that you may have to work around these issues.
Now jupiter retrograde has to deal with feeling a lack of abundance, power, and wealth. It is not that you will become broke or anything, but you may FEEL a lack of abundance and hard to gain power at this time. It would be wise during this time to look at past issues or projects concerning these matters. During this time you would not want to necessarily start a new business to gain money, or take a new job as a supervisor or a gain for power. But if you do you are going to want to plan for any mishaps and anticipate that people are going to be difficult under your power.
Retrogrades are about awareness and planning ahead for such matters. You must anticipate that things are going to happen during these matters.

I plan to start some breakup work this sunday. Is a specific time recommended or just start it anytime once the moon is out?
Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Actually this is a good time according to the moon's cycle, the moon is waning, to work breakup and according the the day, Saturdays are appropriate.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
If you have not got the experience of a few hundered spells behind you there is definetly no need, increased power or hinderances needed to overcome in applying or not applying astrological timings. This talk about retrogrades is a good way of weakening oneself and increase the power of trouble. If you can not overcome these minor influences you are not gifted for the work or there are other things needed to be adressed inside you before you ever need to bother with astological forces.
Recall that not many of the workers in the old days did not even had a clue about astrology and still managed. Most still do.

You can continue to work, just use a different form of timing. For instance sunrise is a powerful time for drawing work, as the sun is increasing in strength. You could also work while both hands of the clock are rising, for their drawing power. Or you could look up the planetary hours for your location, and choose to work during the hour of Venus. Of course you can also combine any of these methods too!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Hi,
1) I recently received my order of Look Me Over products, and I am supposed to start before a full moon, which is until October 11th, 2001.
I really need to do it now (September 20th, 2011). Is that alright?
2) I do not have the Look Me Over oil, but I have the incense, powder, and bath crystals, and a female red candle. Can I use Come To Me oil to anoint the candle, but use the Look Me Over incense while burning the candle, and the Look Me Over powder and Look Me Over bath crystals as well?
I hope it is clear
Thank you!

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
1) "Before the full moon" is a TWO WEEK period. It does not mean a few days. See
http://luckymojo.com/moonphases.html
for further details.
My Moon calendar does not quite agree with yours, by the way:
2011 Phases of the Moon
Universal Time
New Moon - First Quarter - Full Moon - Last Quarter
Aug 29 --- Sep 4 --- Sep 12 --- Sep 20
Sep 27 --- Oct 4 --- Oct 12 --- Oct 20
The dates in bold are waxing moon; the dates in Italics are waning moon. The dates of change are both bold and italic. So my calendar shows the next full moon as October 12, 2011, according to Universal time, not October 11, 2011, as you wrote. You are probably going by your own local time, but when we discuss Moon phases on the international internet, we always use Universal Time (formerly Greenwich Mean Time) so that we can communicate most effectively.
In any case, if you did want to work by the Moon's phase, you would start after Sepetember 27, 2011, about a week from now. If you did not want to work by the Moon's phase, you still have a choice of working by the Moon's sign of the Zodiac, by the days of the week, by the time of the day, by need, and so forth.
2) Mixing love-drawing products is fine and many people do it all the time!
Good luck.

starskylady,
Alas, to ask what you are doing "wrong" is self-defeating.
Get a reading from a reputable and ethical member of AIRR.
I would also suggest that you start with some bathing and cleansing. It could be that someone has jinxed your love and a Love Uncrossing Bath would be of help. It could also be something else.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
hello good evening all, I have a question and I want as much advice and opinions I can get.
1) I have successfully worked with the moon for love work but I often get frustrated when the waxing phase is done and I feel handicapped like I can no longer continue my work until the next waxing phase.
2) I know from articles on this website you can work as the sun is rising or work when the hands are going up on the clock. I want to experiment with the sun as the clock method doesn't really draw me in.
my questions are:
A) from opinion and experience, is working with the sun just as powerful as working with the moon for love spells?
B) if so when do I start this spell, is Sunday the best day or still Friday for love?
C) could I start it now even though the moon is waning would it affect it even though I'm using the sun?
D) because I have worked with the moon on this person already would transitioning to sun be ok?
please any suggestions and answers will be appreciated.
thank you.

I am posting the link to LM planetary discussions --
http://www.luckymojo.com/planetary.html
-- to give you further details on working the planetary conjure.
But to answer your question, you can certainly work love conjure on Sunday the day for success, or Friday for love, or both, Its your call.
Many workers include the power of the Sun in their work considering its purpose. This is an area I am very drawn to, and have used many of the planetary products in my work. I am thinking the waning moon is not an issue when you include the planetary products unless of course (and someone please correct me if I am wrong) there's a solar eclipse. But I can definitely agree with yous sometimes you are drawn to certain types of work as in your case working with the Moon.

thank you jwmcclin,
I like the idea of working with the sun since Its available everyday lol.
More questions:
E) do I have to use planetary products or can I just go about working with my regualar lucky mojo love products as the sun is rising in the morning?
F) could I do it like a normal love ritual but just changing the time and focus on the planet I am using?
G) does the waning moon make spells have a reverse effect or does it just not work with the energy I would be putting out to gain?
thanks so much again for taking the time to respond. more answers are welcome as well. blessings

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
This is not my area of expertise but when I need to work a spell, I do not consider the lunar or solar effects. I work with clock hours.
However, if it is something that I feel would be enhanced by the power of the Sun, I would work it on Sundays along with Crown of Success during the time of the certain planets influence or using clock hours, from 6:31am until 11:59 AM to draw positive things to me.
Did you look thorough the Spell Timing discussions? --

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Dear luckyboy,
1) This makes no sense. You are in no way "handicapped" except through lack of knowledge. To work a love spell by the waning Moon, ask that all loneliness be removed, or all interfering family members decrease their meddling, or all other lovers go away.
You can work "the other end" of ANY situation by the waning Moon or the setting Sun.
Draw riches when the Moon waxes or the Sun rises; expel poverty when the Moon wanes or the Sun sets.
Attract friends when the Moon waxes or the Sun rises; repel enemies when the Moon wanes or the Sun sets.
Imbue yourself with health when the Moon waxes or the Sun rises; remove diseases of the body when the Moon wanes or the Sun sets.
2) You need not choose one versus the other. Work with all forms of timing, such as your menstrual period, the time of day, the Sun, the Moon, the astrological aspects.
A) Yes.
B) SunRISE, not SunDAY. Love spells are generally started on a Friday, as Venus rules love. SunRISE is to the SUN as WAXING is to the MOON -- a time of increase.
C) That's your choice. Some work by the Sun, some by the Moon's phase, some by the moon's SIGN (you didn't even mention Moon signs -- yet they are also important in hoodoo) and some don't seem to care.
D) Consult your own heart. Ask Spirit to guide you.
E) Either way is fine. Most people do not add special planetary or zodiacal products -- but most ASTROLOGERS who practice conjure do so, because they are more familiar with the symbolism and the spiritual strengths of the planets and signs.
F) "Like a normal love ritual" makes no sense to me. It IS a normal love ritual! If you think that working by the Sun or by the Moon or by the Zodiac is not "normal," you should to study more, ask more questions, learn more, and hang out here more.
G) No. The waning moon removes things, it does not "make them have a reverse effect."
This is a serious and deeply transformative practice, not a silly set of rules to be memorized.
Good luck.

Good luck.

Ah! I get it! I thought by "normal" you meant that working by the Moon was somehow abnormal! LOL!

Hi,
I'm trying to draw a specific person to me.
1) I wanted to know if I could start October 26, the New Moon.
Or should I wait until the moon starts waxing?
2) Also, lets say I start during the Waxing Moon, can I keep on lighting candles even throughout the Waning moon? Even though I did start during the desirable Moon phase?
For example, if I begin in when the moon is waxing, but haven't reached my goal and then the moon starts waning. Do I have to stop my spell until the moon waxes again OR can I keep on doing what I'm doing?
I hope you all understand my question. Thanks.

Hi, JazzLove --
First, i am merging your thread into the much longer thread on Moon timing. Go bck and read the whole thread -- and the links to the "Hoodoo in Theory and Practice" web pages on Moon timing and Planetary Timing -- and you will get a good idea of how i am about to answer --
1) Regarding a starting time:
October 25 is the New Moon, also called the Change of the Moon -- and you have more than one choice.
A) You can work by local clock time and wait until after the moment when the Moon changes from New to waxing.
B) You can wait the four days until the New Moon sliver (first crescent, Siva Moon) is visible at sunset and start your work then.
C) You can wait until the Moon is both waxing (by the clock OR by visible appearance) AND the Moon has entered a Zodiac sign propitious to your work (e.g. the sign Aries to influence someone's mind or for a good outcome in surgery; the sign Scorpio for sexuality; the sign Capricorn to influence a person whose sign sign is Capricorn or to foster stability in the relationship, etc.).
D) You can wait until the Moon is both waxing (by the clock OR by visible appearance) AND the Day of the Week is ruled by a planet propitious to your work (e.g. Friday for Venus and Love, Thursday for expansive business plans, etc.).
E) You can wait until the Moon is both waxing (by the clock OR by visible appearance) AND the Moon has entered a Zodiac sign propitious to your work AND the Day of the Week is ruled by a planet propitious to your work.
2) As to continuance of the spell, again, you have choices --
A) You can take the start date as having "set" the spell.
B) You can run the spell "hot and cold" or "in and out" -- drawing love while the Moon is waxing and reducing loneliness or driving away rivals while the Moon in waning, according to your particular circumstances.
3) And, of course, you can choose not to work by the Moon at all.
Every method described above is found within both old-school and contemporary hoodoo practice. There is no "one way," so try them out, see what results you get, see how you feel about these various methods both energetically and emotionally, and make your own path.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
I have one more moon related question. I have read that a love spell should be cast in the beginning phase of a waxing moon to build momentum, then i've also read to do it closer to the full moon while waxing because the moon is more powerful then. so does this mean that if I do it closer to full moon it won't have time to build momentum?
which timing is more appropriate for a powerful love spell, beginning of waxing, or waxing closer to full moon?
thank you

luckyboy,
The Young Moon -- from the Change of the Moon or First Crescent to the Half Moon or First Quarter, is more energetically active for starting new projects. The Waxing Gibbous Moon, from First Quarter to Full, is for consolidation of gains.

For a love spell to remove loneliness during a waning moon, what oil(s) and color of candles should be used? Is there a specific spell that I can do?

Wondering if it's better to bathe on the day of the week that corresponds with a particular magickal energy or rather 3 consecutive days. Thanks.
Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
You can work by the days of the week for bathing (Thursday is commonly associated with money), the hours of the clock (bathe as the hands of the clock are going "up" to draw success to you) or by the phases of the moon (bathe as the moon is waxing to grow your money). You could bathe just once on a Thursday morning before dawn and throw the bathwater towards the rising sun, as the sun rises your money will be drawn to you. You can also bathe for several days in a row; 3 is a ritual number, as is 7, 9, and 11 for luck.
Good luck,

If you want to bathe 3 consecutive days that ALSO correspond to appropriate planetary energy, then do it on a Wednesday-Thursday-Friday. Wednesday is Mercury day, which is good for Road Opening, and bringing in things quickly. Thursday is Jupiter day, which is good for expanding your resources and wealth. Friday is Venus day, which is good for bringing in abundance and luxury.

It is a bit like asking if a painting should be blue or red in general.
For example you do not ask if the options are better for you at this particular time or for someone else in particular.
Learning the mechanics of Conjure is only 1/3 of the work. The other 2/3 is Gift (which the master numbers already said you had) and Divination (which will tell you how and when the mechanics should be applied).

Hi everyone, I am already planning ahead for the new year. I would appreciate it if I could get some ideas of what to do to have luck and success in the new year. For example, is there something that I can do on New Year's eve to change my luck. 2011 has been an awful year so if there is something I can do for next year I wold be happy to hear it. I am asking in advance in case I need to order products form Lucky Mojo.
Thanks in advance for all your wisdom and hard work it is appreciated by us all.

You could start with a 13-herb bath and cleansing your house with Chinese Wash. Then you can do a Van Van spell to change your bad luck to good.

If you have been having financial difficulties consider incorporating a money stay with me working into the work Mama Micki suggested above. If you have had trouble in the home work with peaceful home, and if you are longing for a lover try a come to me spell-in other words, consider what your issues have been and target one or two of them through spell work with the LMC spell kits. You may also want to consider buying a mojo hand for good luck-I love the Lucky Red Clover bag for all around good luck in health, love, and money!

hi!i know that most conjurers/root workers dont depend on moon phases for spellcasting but id like to know about doing breakup/hot footing work and candle spell work to break up and cause strife for my ex during this moon phase.is it wise to do it during a time when the moon is nearly full?also this saturday is a full lunar eclipse!i know spells for increase and excess or compelling spell work is best during full moon and usually things you want to see go away during the waning phase. but can revenge or hotfooting work be amplified because of the rare lunar eclipse? and also their will not be another for three years.(law of three, holy trinity ect. ect. ect.)please someone give a reply.this was the only forum that i could find that is somewhat appropraite for me to post.i dont want it to have a negative/opposite effect based on the eclipse and/or moon being full!!thanx so much ahead of time.i really appreciate this site and the forums.the most usefull tool ive come across and best site overall ive ever come across so far in searching the web on my spirtual quest.
Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
If you want to do crossing or cursing work, during the waning or Dark Moon is the generally accepted time. Here is a link to some online info about Moon phases in Hoodoo; scroll down to the last 2 messages about "Timing":

First off- a lot of rootworkers do pay attention to lunary cycles-not all of us but many of us. Those who are influenced by Native American or some European magical systems may give special credence to lunar timing
Secondly, if this is work that needs to be done *now* then just go for it. Thirdly, MaryBee is correct-the dark moon and also the waning moon are the more traditional times to do crossing and hurting work.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
thankx all so much...for the advice and enlightenment.i didnt know that most workers of majick payed attention to the moon phase, well im here to learn and i can stand correction for the sake of improvement.im fascinated by this site and the communinty of people here.my grandmother was irish and indian.she lived through the great depression.she was born in early 1900S and she was married eight times!she was a folk medicine healer and midwife and also a laborer(factory and domestic worker)and she did her share of drawing spells even probably some of the more negative stuff.she read tea leaves and palms also.and yet she was also a practicing catholic.she was really a fascinating woman who was very strong. she had ten of her own children but helped raise 23 kids in all.these children lived with her and called her mother all of her life.i think she is part of why im so interested in this part of nature and spirituality.im at a point on my life/spiritual journey where im realizing i can believe in this and practice this and yet still believe in god/great spirit and that all elements of spirituality can compliment each instead of canceling each other out.anyway im on a bit of a rant here i suppose so i will go but i just want to thank all again for their insight and advice.and i think i will take all advice and not do any spell work on the eclipse and not start the spell i planned on the full moon.as far as the eclipse goes,is it okay to charge any talisman/mojobags under the eclipse,or is this also unwise?i just think its so rare n event i want to celebrate it in some way or gain some lasting benefit from it,unless it stands symbolically for some kind of nagativity?

I have my Crown of Success Spell Kit that says to start before the new moon which is this weekend but won't be feasible.. the next is near the end of Jan. My personal goal is to get this new year started rich, so I would like to start the kit right away.
Would the moon phases affect it that much or will my intent be strong enough to still by pass this?

Okay, I'm new to this type of forum, so please excuse any blunders?
I am however fairly experienced with magical workings and such, but after reading A LOT of posts on this topic, I am now actually second guessing a recent binding rite I did...
I did a very strong binding on, wait for it.... On December 10th during the full moon while mercury was in retrograde.
I made sure to perform my normal protection etc, beforehand, but also noticed that it appeared to not have ANY effect on the intended at all?
Conversely I also noticed that during the very next week I had a ton of chaos, both monetary & medical. So I of course did a thorough house floor wash, called on my Amparo to assist me, AND started a reversal candle. Since i found out that the situation/person I bound, was still going along strong with her agenda to draw my man away, I've been plagued with severe depression along with a big dose of paranoia, & anxiety. I do believe allot of it also has to do with the holidays, or at least the season is not helping.
I'm completely open to any ideas, advice or ways to determine if in fact my binding brought this on to myself?
I take full responsibilty if I inadvertently brought this on myself, but would also REALLY APPRECIATE any advice on how to clean this mess up if in fact I created it?
Thank you for taking the time to read my predicament & possibly have advice?

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
I would normally do everything pertaining to love on Friday, however my lover comes back from a trip on Sunday and I am the one who is going to pick him up from the airport. We have not seen each other in 2 weeks, I've been doing quite the bit of candle work to keep myself on his mind, etc. while he is gone. I have everything I need for a love bath, what do you all suggest I do? fix it and do it on Friday or before I pick him up from the airport.
I also wish to reserve some of the bath water to spray around his vehicle, our bedroom, etc. but I really want to make sure I do this right, I wish to fix a full tub bath and add the herbs and oils to it, go in and take some time visualizing my desires. I understand about reserving bath water but is it ok to let the rest go down the drain? OR should I just do a small tub where I can put my feet and wash upwards?

Actually you can take the bath on Friday and Sunday and save your bath water until you are with him. Remember spells do not have to be done on certain daily, you work spells when you need them. Timing a spell is appropriate for various reasons. The rest of the water can drain out.

Re: Astrology: Character Analysis and Spell Timing: Horoscopes, Sun, Moon, Planets, Eclipses, Retrogrades
Can anyone help me find the replies to a question I posted back in December?
I've received a couple of emails stating that there were replies to my posts, but I'll be damned if I can find them?
I've clicked on the link in the email and it only takes me to the forum I posted in (which appears to only have 2 pages)
I've clicked on "view my posts" and it only takes me to my post, but there are no replies to it other than something from Cathrine showing other links that I have searched & found no replies to my question...
I never felt so confused and ignorant of the ways a forum works... lol
I know this is a huge and wonderful community that I've learned so much from by just reading!
I just wish to find the replies/answers/suggestions to my post.
I've read the FAQ and technical help sections to no avail. Can ANYONE help/teach me how to navigate this infinite library of knowledge?
Thanks y'all!
