Glad to meet everyone. A little bit about me: homeschooling mom, avid reader, writer, love music. I come from a deep south family-raised in the woods and swamps of Central Florida. My family were pioneers, Florida Crackers, cattlemen and farmers-I mention it because I had a lot of interesting stories and beliefs and superstitions (I mean that in a good way) handed down to me. I have read palms, cards since I was very young...though at this point I tend to just read people by looking at them-I get lazy and don't feel like grabbing the cards, you know? (big grin!) I was raised in some folk magic ways (boy howdy I can tell some stories) and so it blossomed into a love of hoodoo, Western Occultism, Religion. At this point in my life I just want to fill in some blanks so I feel a little more rooted in my knowledge to help my family and others.
*whew* glad to be here.

Re: howdy!
Welcome! The best way to fill in those blanks is Miss Cat's Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course. With your upbringing, you may find a lot of familiar material there, but you will also learn plenty of new stuff as you discuss the course material in the students' Yahoo group.

Re: howdy!
I am most definitely working up to taking the course! I recently ordered Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic from the shop along with some sachets, oils, etc so I can both work on some pressing concerns as well as create an order history with the shop. I am counting the days till I can take the course!
Interestingly enough, since I've begun seriously working with Hoodoo, (i have a long time interest and study in it) I've connected some dots as far as my uprbinging-my very pentecostal grandmother giving me a mercury dime to wear around my ankle from the time I was very small-I still have it, by the way!-Epsom salt baths and oils for prayers-certain Bible verses to use in times of need, etc. I spoke with her two days ago and she confirmed it was all stuff she knew from HER mother and grandmother and some of the African American midwives/friends of her mother from the 1930's-1940's. I was so glad to finally get some of these stories from her. She used to tell me I was such an odd child that she would constantly call her mother to pray for me cause there were so many signs around me (I whistled as a crawling baby, could call owls out of trees, could tell people things about themselves, etc.) It means the world to me to finally feel at peace and at home with my magical working.
Well, didn't mean to unload, just great to be here.
