New from Oklahoma

Unread post by BourbonBordeaux » Fri Feb 10, 2012 6:54 pm

This is all still so very new to me, even though I have been feeling the pull from some Lwa for awhile now.

A little bit about myself, I was born and raised in Oklahoma City and have lived on both sides of town. The occult has never been unknown to me, but I have never fully immersed myself in it like I am now.

I grew up Baptist and became Wiccan in middle school. I switched schools when we moved houses and found myself in a Catholic highschool. I found a home in that religion and I still keep a few things with me, but it isnt the home I feel in Hoodoo. Which I didnt discover until my sophmore year of college. Of which I attend as Political Science Major/Spanish and History Minor. (My dream is to work for the Peace Corps for as long as I can.)

My roomate began practicing. I was scared at first, I think anyone would be. I would witness her dance in the evenings, giving herself - and other things - up to the lwa.

I was in denial at first, and then dreams of Ogou started coming. And a year later, I have decided to fully embrace my calling.

So here I am, offering myself up to those more knowledgeable than I (and everyone else in the community). I'm really quite excited to be here and meeting everyone!

Welcome to the forum -- but i think you are going to be sorely disappointed here!

This is not a forum about Voodoo or the lwa -- far from it!

This is hoodoo, not Voodoo, and, baby, it is about as BAPTIST as you gone get. So, if you left the Baptists to get Wicca and then Catholic, and then Voodoo -- well, this is just like going "back to Baptist."

Now, to be sure, hoodoo is not a religion, like all those you mentioned. It is simply old-fashioned African American conjure work, as practiced by the aunties and uncles in the Baptist church.

We don't have no Ogou here. We've got Jesus.

Just to be real clear:

The culture and practice of the Voodoo religion in Haiti:

The culture and practice of the Baptist religion in North Carolina

So, look around, enjoy yourself, and if we can be of any help to you, just ask!

Good luck!

This is what happens when I write a post late in the evening, I forgot half of the story and confuse myself.

I ought to have mentioned that my friend first immersed herself into Vodou and then became, later, a "small time rootworker" in her words and I have recently been drawn into rootworking as well.

I am very new to this, so forgive me for any mistakes I make.

I also want to point out, that I also don't have any problems with Christianity and I probably would still be involved in my Baptist church had their sermons not turned political and less biblical.

Welcome to the Lucky Mojo Forum! I'm with you. I wish churches would stick to the teachings of Jesus and the Bible, rather than promote a political agenda. Someday I'll start my own church, where everyone will be welcome.
