Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I was thinking the same thing , but then I thought why is there a 6inch and a 4 you know? like obviously the vigil candles would do longer work like novenas but 4 & 6 inch seem so close so what's he real reason behind it if any.. thanks for your input theusurper
Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Really, energy and prayer is the most imporant part you put into any ritual or working. Candle color and choice will help, but I've had good results from a 4 inch light and good results from a tea light, and absolutely nothing happen with a 7 day vigil light. It depends on your focus, preparation, and concentration.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I burn 4" candles on honey jars, for general "quick-burn" work, and as a cost effective "freebie" candle for friends and family. I use 4" candles on work that may last more than 2 or 3 days and needs to be a fresh candle each day. I also use these when consecrating an amulet or other such thing that needs to be placed under a bowl to have a candled burned "on" it.
I burn 6" candles for longer burn times. If I am doing something that I want to last for longer than the 4" candles i will burn the 6" candles. They have more space for rolled herbs as well as for writing names and petitions on. They are majestic in their own right, and for me, work great when I need larger candles to encircle or make a triangle around my altar work.
The main difference is burn time and area. You can use each for a multitude of spells and work, but I have my favorite candle sizes set for certain work.
Good question though. Hopefully we can get some great answers and ideas on this thread!

Actually it's not just a two inch height difference between the 4' and the 6', the 6' candles are about twice the diameter of the 4' inch candles as well....hence the longer burn time, as the candles increase in diameter (fatness) as well as height. Awesome input from Mary Bee and Joseph Magnuson as well, it is more about your intent and focus.

Thank you for that addition trish76! I often forget some of the most basic things when discussing Hoodoo and Conjure tools! The candles indeed increase in diameter as they get bigger! I find the 6" to be to big for small honey jars and the 4" ones to be just right. Thank you for pointing that out for the discussion!

I also find, when I'm too lazy to reach for my candle dye, that a 4-inch candle contains just enough wax to make a colored overlay for a ten-inch taper, transforming it into an herb-dressed taper
It's an old-fashioned method, but extremely versatile -- and my favorite.
Hope this helps,

Double dressing candles, or rolling them in wax with herbs and oils is one of my favorite ways of working.
I personally use the 6 inch candles more but simply because I find it easier to carve them with names and my intent.

1. Even thou it is easy to assume so, "Power" is never neutral.luckyboy wrote:1) can someone please help me understand the difference in using a 4 inch candle and a 6 inch candle?
2) does the burn time of a 6 inch make it more effective or powerful than a 4 inch? or is it about the energy you put in to it?
I just want to know what the major differences are between the two sizes other than the obvious difference being the size of the candle. thank you
The power of "size" or "amount" is usually of interest to Conjurors when using the Measure of something, when petitioning Spirits (A small candle when petitioning and larger candles as rewards), odd numbers and when dealing with spells that go on for more than 1 day (7 day knob candles, Virgil candles etc.) in which you may want a lager size candle or several small ones.
The powers in a candle that we are concerned with most in conjure is the power of Fire, the power of Heat, the power of Light and the power of the specific Color. The power of size or amount is usually considered when petitioning spirits - A small candle when petitioning and larger candles as rewards – and when dealing with spells that go on for more than 1 day – 7 day knob candles, Virgil candles etc.
Is this question is related to a recipe or not? If the recipe is given for a specific situation, a particular client at a particular time it is very hard to know the difference between the candle recommended and other candles. Sometimes you need to shout for a long time before a person can hear you, at other times you may attract attention by saying "hey!" Burning big candles for a long time might be a way of shouting and a little candle may be like just asking a gentle question like - "Can you pass me the salt?" or "Will you marry me?". See the difference? A continuous pressure (big candle) may sometimes be necessary to sway anther persons mind and at other times you need a constant tapping (many small candles in a row). And so on. Find out how you look at the candles and what you believe and associate about their sizes.
2.
Power in itself is rarely neutral. It is specific.
Sugar has the power of Sweetness right?
When it comes to cooking some recipes ask for such and such amount of sugar. Can it be done with less? Yes. Can it be done with more? Yes.
Will more sugar make the cake taste better? Not if you having you mother in law for dinner and she is allergic to sugar. But if you are making a birthday cake for your kid’s party they would probably love it.
Does that particular recipe really need sugar in it? "Yes" - if you are making that particular recipe and "no" - if you are just so hungry that you would eat anything and don´t have enough money to buy sugar.
It all depends on the situation you are in, the resources you have at your disposal, if you have a recipe or going to cook from scratch with or without knowledge.

Does lighting a black candle on someone make them leave, or just make things go wrong for them?
I am wanting to remove someone from a specific place, so that he can be away from my love. However, I can't physically hot-foot him out.
I just want him out of our lives completely--this guy is nothing but bad news. What are my options?

Black symbolizes repulsion, dark thoughts, sorrow and freedom from evil. You can do a lot from a distance Mezan. Its more about how to dress the candle to get the results you desire. You can dress a letter with hot foot and mail it to him.

Hello Mezan
If you think of the colours of candles as having their own specific vibration, they are in some way a vessel of your magickal intent. In regards to the choice of colours it sometimes wise to consider your own subconsious attachemnt to it, since it also may have an effect on the outcome. Why do you think things will go wrong for the target just by lightning a black candle? Is that a part of your intent?
Generally black represents the absence of all other colours and is neutral and I personally feel it is without any interfering energies. It also represents the deeper and hidden parts of your mind.
I it is exellent for any banishing type of work and also a good colour for meditation.
Good Luck!

On the LM page for "Hot Foot" products there is a spell that involves Hot Foot Oil and a black candle. I can testify from personal experience that this works, even if you don't have access to the person to do a Hot Foot in the traditional way.

Thank you, Jibrael! I have checked out the page. I will make sure to include Hot Foot Oil in my next order. My rootworker just suggested dressing a black candle with olive oil, or hot pepper oil and dusted with red pepper. I'm pretty confident I can do this on my own, but will wait until I can get some hyssop. I think some backup work may be in order, since I have no experience whatsoever with this type of work.

Purple's good -- the color of kings! -- and so are yellow (the sun) and red, a great, lively color which is often used for the go-get-'em kind of energy.
If you want to build up calm and serenity, though, you might want Crucible of Courage and Tranquility -- together, even -- on pale blue candles.
Hope this helps,
Miss Michaele

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I have just completed a love candle spell to break my lover's resistance. I must say that I had an interesting experience. The candle burned high, steady and clean for the first 7 days. On day 7, I left the candle burning as I though it would have been okay. By the way, this candle was studded all over with many cubeb berries and dill seeds and coated with intimate fluid as well as FMB oil. (For the first 7 days the berries just accumulated in the wet wax at the surface of the candle). Anyway, on day 7 when I went to check on the candle, I noticed that the berries on the surface was burning and popping and one of the berries on the shaft of the candle caught on fire and burned through the candle exposing the untouched wick. Of course I put out that fire as I did not want to ruin the work any further, prayed over it, focused and continued working. It was amazing watching the berries pop! On the last day (day 9) I had another interesting burn. Again, the berries popped all over and started their individual flames which I immediately put out. But I noticed something peculiar. Towards the end of the burn, there were 2 separate flames, somewhat far from each other. But the interesting thing is within less than a minute, both flames joined together (as if holding hands) and formed one bright high steady flame. It remained this way until it ended. What does this suggest? I really prayed hard for my target to break his resistance and come to me and be unable to resist me. In addition to this, I noticed 3 distinct crucifixes formed from the wax on the cup that I placed the candle on. Can someone please help me understanding this.

SIgns are personal to each person. So anyone's interpretation may not have any meaning to your situation.
I would suggest getting a reading and sending any pictures you have of the crucifixes to the person so that they can interpret what this means for your situation.
www.readersandrootworkers.com
Next, as for the two flames touching...what does it mean to you? Again, we cannot tell you the exact signs as they are personal to the petitioner.
You may be able to get some more clues here

Thanks.

loving_me --
An orange candle is for road opening, for homage to the planet / deity Mercury, for "hot" but not deadly protection work (symmbolizing flames) , and for fairly non-sexualized and intellectual changes.
A spiritual oil such as Come To Me is not about changing things. It is about developing love and it may carry sexual desires and wishes as well.
The two wishes seem at odds with one another. I personally would not use Come To Me Ol on an orange candle -- i would select a white, pink, or red candle.
I am moving this thread into the one on candle colour symbolism.

Hi. Is there a comprehensive color correspondences chart somewhere on this site? I saw one, but it didn't really list everything. For example, what color candle would I use for creativity and focus? Specifically for fiction writing?

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Color association got popular after the introduction of The Master Book of Candle Burning , so most of the usage of color derives from candle magic. You can find that list here:
http://www.luckymojo.com/candlemagic.html#colour
You're likely to not find a color for every single conceivable concept, so you may have to work within the broader concepts presented. In your particular case, as far as candles go, I'd use blue, or white. If you are making a mojo hand to aid you in concentrating on your writing, I'd use good ole red flannel.
Hope this helps.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Are the candles blessed before shipped out or are they regular candles?
Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
It just depend on the candle. The seven day vigil candles can be dressed and then shipped out to you. The others are regular and you dress and bless them accordinly.
Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Ok. I figured they blessed the vigil candles but I didn't know about the regular altar candles. Thanks for your response

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I am a female interested in doing some candle work around becoming an all around effective communicator.
I would love to develop "the gift of gab" to become a "smooth talker" LOL! My girfriend has this gift naturally and its AMAZING how people naturally bend to her will, love her and want to please her. She is very spiritual and kind hearted as well. I am kind hearted but it seems my speaking skills tend to be a bit more "abrasive" (I have mercury conjunct pluto conjunct uranus conjunct mars in 9th house natal astro chart, my intuitive, masculine mind tends see the bigger picture, to "get things" deeply and super fast is quickly onto the next ideas, my thinking and communication process does not have too much patience and is annoyed by inappropriate feeelings in context to the conversation, phoniness, gossip, needless smalltalk, small mindedness, and people who fail to see the bigger picture or at least understand the point of the conversation). I have an inherent BS spotter. Ive noticed many other women tend to feel threatened by me or competitive with me or think I am insulting them after speaking with me and Ive left the conversation thinking everything is fine.
What is interesting is I do not have this problem with men at all, but my goal is to become an equal opportunist in my communications and to leave people feeling listened to and wonderful, however I would like to stay respected. I did some work (wiccan) a few years ago around this and I didnt really notice a difference at all except other women became disrespectful, disdainful even and dismissive as I tried super hard to connect.
The irony here is Im a big-hearted softy, non-competitve feminine female and I have extremely complex emotional states these emotions in direct contrast to my insane thinking states and ideals. I really would love would be to communicate my ideas/ideals successfully without causing anger/resentment or misunderstandings.
Anyways, Id like to tackle this with a lil hoodoo help. Im thinking of mixing mercury, crown of success, archangel Gabriel maybe some venus or open roads or influence???
My question is what color candle do I use. Orange for mercury? Light Blue for throat chakra? and which oils are best for my intentions?
Ultimately my vision for the end result is to be expressive in an open, non-threatening, expansive, eloquent, smoother more compassionate, female-friendly and tactful inspiring way that leaves good feelings, mutual respect and inspiration

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hi Kriskat9,
amongst many other ideas that the talented folks here will suggest, one idea would be to:
Mondays: Burn a white or light blue candle on your name anointed with Healing and Tranquility oils and then dressed with crushed rose petals. You can add a small prayer card of the Virgin Mary if you want to. The point here is to foster forgiveness and compassion for yourself on an on-going basis. It will also help you tune into your more feminine nature. Dusting your palms, heart and feet (a human five-spot) with Tranquility or Our Lady of Grace sachet powders before bed can close the work and carry it through with you in sleep.
Wednesdays: Burn an orange candle on your name anointed with Mercury and Influence or Power oil and then dressed with crushed deer's tongue. You can also prepare a spiritual bath that day made from a strong tea of deer's tongue, tobacco and 5 cloves. Start with 6 cups of water and reduce it by half and then add this stong brew to your bath water.
Friday: Burn a pink candle on your name anointed with Peony Root in Oil of Good Luck oil and then dressed with crushed Lotus root. Again this is to get in touch with the more ''Venus'' side of your personallity and help with that ''equal opportunist-ism'' you're looking for. To close this work: a long full-body self-massage from crown to toe-tips with Lucky Clover Vulva Oil that will let things sink in and set you up for an amazingly refreshing night's sleep.
Hopefully this will help spark the creative juices on ideas that can work for your intentions.
Happy Conjure and Success in your work!

Thank You Aura, I think your onto something with the Friday Venus work. I think that might be the energy I really need to integrate in a non-erotic fashion. I admire your novel way of thinking, What Great ideas!
Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Aura I cant seem to find peony root? Would Venus oil also work for this?
I welcome any and all further suggestions.

Hi Kriskat9,
here's the link for the Peony Root in Oil: http://www.luckymojo.com/oil-peony-root.html although yes, you could use Venus oil as well or instead. The energy of peony root is really amazing however so if you haven't worked with it yet you may want to get some of the root or the oil and spend some time with it.
Blessings.

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
Hi all, (I searched through the forum about this, if its there, I apologise
I'm curious... Has anyone any views on cutting a candle in half, then-cleansing them thoroughly, then-using them? Would that diminish the magic in any way whatsoever?
I have some very long pink candles which would be better for my purposes IF they were half their size... I ask this question - as in all my years I have not done it before.
Tthough I could buy smaller candles I do love these, especially the colouring of them, but they're too big and noted they can take up to 12 hours to finish.
Any advice appreciated.
Thankyou

I personally do not cut candles in half, but have known people who do. It depends on how comfortable you are with doing this.
Might I humbly suggest getting some of the 4" candles Lucky Mojo sells? They usually last about and hour.
The 6" candles last longer, but not 12 hours.
Good luck to you!

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I don't like the practice of cutting candles unless there is a specific magical intent behind it.
I do think sectioning off longer taper candles with pins so that they burn in "sections" is perfectly appropriate.
Joseph is totally right-the 4 inch offertory candles are perfect.
Blessings,
Bri

What color candle do you burn when someone has damaged your reputation? I looked at the color chart on the site, but don't know what to use for this purpose. I was leaning towards white since it is all purpose, but then again, purple is for personal power. Should I use black and white to reverse on them, then use purple to try and restore my good name?

This sounds wonderful and spot on! Use the reversing candle to send that back to them, then use the purple for getting back up there and restoring your good name. Good work.MoonBreath wrote:Should I use black and white to reverse on them, then use purple to try and restore my good name?

Very good choices! You may consider anointing the purple candle with Power Oil to build up personal strength as you over come this.

Thank you Joseph and Papa Newt for the replies. Those are the colors I will go with, and I will try the Power Oil on the purple one. Thanks again for helping me

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I am wondering what is the best candle choice to use for a dilemma I have at work. I was told yesterday that I have to travel to one of our regional offices, my dilemma with that is that they want me to travel in December which is a bad time for me because of the holidays and because I do not have money for the expenses incurred. My supervisor does not care about my dilemmas, she just cares about herself. I am willing to travel at a later time cause it should be a little better for me (moneywise). I want to talk to someone above her and explain my situation so that they can take my side. What color candle or altar candle would you suggest for this?

heretostay,
If you are unsure whether to use a candle spell or a spell kit or design your own spell, you can get a reading on the topic or do a simple yes-no pendulum reading yourself. Also, you can use kinethesiology to make a choice, or muscle testing. There is no "rule set" to follow -- so much depends on the situation, on how adept you are at conjure work, and at your interest level in the performance of rootwork.

If I'm doing a money drawing spell or a peace in the home etc. Does the size of the candle I dress and burn matter? Do you feel the size of the candle significantly affects the results of a trick or spell regardless of the strength of intent?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I think it comes down to preference, on the part of the workers.
You can affix symbolism and deeper meaning to the size of the candle you're using, if it's helpful for you to do so, but I wouldn't lose sleep over the matter. I've managed just fine with tea lights, when I didn't have anything else, handy.

I follow the belief that the longer the candle burns, the longer the intention is being put into the universe, and the more potential power it has. This is why it is very popular to burn the Glass Encased Vigil Candles which burn for several days. But you also don't want to leave a non-glass encased candle unattened for very long, and thats why figural candles and altar candles should be able to burn out after a few hours. Fire Safety is very important.
Best of Luck to You!

Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I agree with Apollo Dark's thoughts on the time spent burning candles. It's nice and comforting to light a seven-day candle -- however, in the early days of spiritual supply catalogs, a "seven day candle" meant a set of seven matching votive candles.
So, burn a set of seven little candles, or light a big one -- or a lamp.
Good luck and good magic,
Miss Michaele

I think it depends on personal preference and one's living situation. Some cannot burn candles for long periods of time and might use 6" or 4" candles. I like the jumbo candles as a mini-vigil; they burn about 24-36 hours.

Just want to thank Lucky Mojo for the great success I've had with Fire of Love altar candle and Kiss me now. They really have both worked for me. Thank You!
Re: Candle Choices: How to Select Shapes Forms Colours Wax Types Holders
I have a situation where my lover and I have been forced into a separation that will last for about 500 days - there will be no contact or communication for this time period. I'm continuing to work a honey jar on us both, and am seeing very positive signs that the love continues. I think it is an unrealistic expectation for either of us to not stray sexually, but I would like to do some kind of spell where any new lover just can't compare to me, something that as the day nears for our reuniting, that he is ecstatic to get back to me, in both love and sex.
I have personal concerns of his saved, and I have purchased a blue penis candle and 2 red skull candles from LM. I have an assortment of love oils also. I was thinking of doing a blue penis candle spell to keep him faithful in mind, and always desiring what he can't have. Something along the lines of no one else in his world can even remotely compare to me. I was planning to dress with herbs, use the concerns, name and baptize, the whole nine, anoint with Fire of love, Love me, and FMB, and then state a petition something along those lines. Perform the ritual for 7 days beginning on the New Moon. Then I was going to keep the wax remains in a bit of a jewish bowl spell, to keep beneath me while I sleep. Couple questions - can a penis candle be used in this way when I am forced away from him physically? We have quite a psychic connection, and I can feel changes in him easily. I don't want to kill his nature, but keep his mind always on me - wouldn't even mind that if he's sexual with someone else, that he's not thinking of me the whole time. Am I being misguided at any step of my plan? Am I really needing to use my skull candles here? I am new to figural candles, but look forward to trying them. My practice is getting more and more refined.
Any thoughts at all would be so greatly appreciated!
Blessings.
