Hey all, I'm new to the Forum, so I'm fixin to do that nigh-obligitory howdy plus introduction thing...

I'm Dr. Od, gonna keep my other names breasted for now, I know you feel me...

I live in Arlington, Va, I like to think I'm a Virginian Gent, tho I work in DC.

I pay my bills as a tattoo artist and body piercer, managing a shop on the U st. Corridor.

Been a student of the occult, like many of you, since I reached the age of Reason, as it were...

Studied the Thing from many angles, which again seems the standard M.O., and yep, like many on this Forum, come to hang my hat in the House of Hoodoo. It the perfect "Fine American Mess", as Bill Cutting of "Gangs of New York" might say...take what's best from traditions worldwide, stir it all together in the cast-iron American Cooking Pot, and brew up this gorgeous thing greater than the sum of its parts...

Have had Lady Yronwode's book for a good spell now, it's nigh my Bible...slowly and surely collecting and studying books she recommends...though them damned Hyatt books are a sight out of my price-range as of yet...

I'm white-folk, but for the past 7 years now my primary community has been the Black-American community of DC. Boss is black, coworkers are black, 85%-90% of my clientele are black...and lemme tell you, if I found myself in any serious scrap, it wouldn't be me pale-faced mates I called upon...

I can out-spit, out-fight, out-wit, and out-f**k any sunnuvagun either side of the Potomac...and I'm gorgeous, for a marked-up, scarred-up, ugly pale-face...

Not sure why you would want to come here and spit, fight, etc., 'cause this is not that kind of a venue, but check us out, look around, maybe make a few friends, and maybe you'll enjoy yourself. There aren't too many students of "the occult" here, either, by the way -- mostly just folks using rootwork to help themselves in life.

And I don't mean no harm by that last sentence or so; I'm just talking out the side of my face in perhaps a vain attempt for humor...apologies if it's out of place! I'm brand spanking new here, still deciphering the Lucky Mojo behavioral expectations...seemed to have goofed a couple of times already, much to my shame...

...and I used the word "occult" only for lack of a better word...whatever term you like for that which is non-standard in terms of investigating the Spirit...even that, upon reflection, seems perhaps vague and ambiguous. Further apologies, I can't seem to find the appropriate terminology to express my sentiment.

Well, Dr. Od, the thing is, as far as "behavioural expectations" go, this is a customer service forum for folks who use the products we make in our shop. The Lucky Mojo crew consists of about a dozen people. We grow herbs and harvest them around our two-acre plot, we gather in our small shop every day and hand-make and pray over spiritual supplies, we wait upon walk-in customers, we fill mail-order requests, mostly from people living in the USA, but occasionally from folks overseas as well, we store our overstock in the old barn, and we read palms and cards and set vigil lights in the little church next to the shop. We're repainting the shop right now, though, and those pictures will soon be out of date. I hope to replace them with new pictures when the repainting is complete.

So ... long on practice, short on theory -- that's the Taurean Way.

These customs seems a bit strange for someone on the other side of the Atlantic ocean and I have no idea how or why to out-f**k something that sounds like a car or a species of bird. But never the less - welcome to the forum, Dr Od.

And Dr Johannes, hello! Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, that silliness I wrote above is just sort of, oh, how to put it...'street braggadocio'. Sort of amalgamated from old bare-knuckle boxer's quotes and American pseudo-idioms ("I can such-and-such better than any man 'this side of the Mississippi [river]'...of course, in this instance, I chose the Potomac, the river I am near).
Anyway, ignore it! Again, it was attempt at humor, it fell flat, and I'm sort of groaning at myself for it...

We are sooooo Earth Sign here. Today we celebrated the birthdays of three of the four Virgos who work at Lucky Mojo (five if you include the dog), and the party was catered by our shop manager, a Capricorn, and also in attendance were two Tauruses and an Aries-Taurus cusp, and i think the only water sign was my husband. I apologize for my faulty sense of humour.

Hi and welcome! You've found a great community here, everyone is so awesome! There is so much information in the forum and everything Cat has made available to us. Hi Dr. Od. I'm sort of new here myself. I grew up in the DC/Northern VA area--back when McLean only had one traffic light and Tyson's Corner only had a feed store and a frozen food locker. I happen to know exactly what a sunnuvagun is and feel certain that you are one. Mark Twain is one of my favorite writers and I thought this quote, lifted from one of his stories, might strike a chord with you.

"He took a great liking to this Rev. Mr. Peters, and talked with him a great deal: told him yarns, gave him toothsome scraps of personal history, and wove a glittering streak of profanity through his garrulous fabric that was refreshing to a spirit weary of the dull neutralities of undecorated speech."

Cat, ok I'll come clean...I'm a Scorpio...so perhaps that explains something? My younger sis is a Taurus, tho...maybe be she should advise me before I post? LOL!

Actually, maybe you could help me some? Last night at the bar where she works, one of the cooks spilled some boiling water on her legs, and she had to hit the ER with second-degree burns on them. Aside from the appropriate modern medical care, is there anything specific on this more spiritual level I could do for her? I just found out this morning before work, so I've had no time to 'hit the books'...
