Sorry I missed last night. I had too much on my plate this week. I hope all is well with everyone. We are worrying now about ivan which is due to pass over my in-laws who live south of Havana on an island off the coast of Cuba. This is one nasty year so far for storms.

I look forward to hearing the conference online.

Malembe,

Eoghan

(We missed you too, Eoghan! Check it out in the archives. I hope all is well with your Cuban family. You are right -- this is a bad year for storms. I have lit another candle for the soothing and taming of Ivan, as i did for Frances. --cat)

I listened to the Hoodoo Rootwork Hour on The Use of Live Beings today and have a couple of questions regarding the usage of plants in rootwork.

1- Dr. Kioni mentioned the use of burying items in a pot, beneath a
cactus plant for breakup work when targets live in a place where it
isn't feasible to bury the trick where it would be walked over - for
instance if the targets lived in an apt building. My questions are,
could this method be used for breakup & separation work from a
distance - ex: parties don't live together or live in different
cities, states, countries etc.? Also, when using this method, would
you keep the cactus in your own home (or on your own property) or
would you place it elsewhere?

It really is stronger to get the plant in their vicinity, but work at a distance has been known to succeed as well. Do remember always, however, that hoodoo developed in close-knit rural communities, and not all of its techniques are fully adaptable to modern urban environments. In any case, do not keep the plant in any "normal" part of your own home -- in the bathroom would be best, if you have enough light there for a cactus. --cat)

2- Mambo Angel discussed setting a plant as meant for love to
flourish, but instead letting it purposely die, thus the relationship
it symbolized died too. My question isn't directly related, but sort
of. If a plant had been set for a love to grow, but the plant died,
yet there was still a desire to continue the work, could this plant
be used in the dirt with a new one? This sounds like a really dumb
question when I re-read it, because why would it make sense to plant
a DEAD plant in with a NEW one meant to have a love flourish. But I
think, I'm thinking that it could somehow be used as the new plant
resurrecting from the dead? Am I getting too far away from Hoodoo
and more Chaos-y again.

Thank you!

(I would take the death of a love plant as a very bad sign for the outcome of the work. I would consider whether to proceed along those lines, and then, yes, i would turn the soil over, not unburying the packet, just turning under the dead plant, and i would then replant the whole lot into larger pot and try again.
