NOTES
The Chat feature on BlogTalkRadio's website was non-functional, so Miss Cat and Nagasiva put together a series of notes during the show for posting here, including the Client and Free Spell text.
The Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork Hour NOTES LOG, February 25, 2024, 3:00pm PT - 4:30pm PT
Cat: catching up on Lucky Mojo doings and Patreon plans.
Conjureman: Getting career clients lately
Cat: me too
James: Working on new candles with improved equipment.
Cat: History of figural candles -- petroleum wax, painted candles, holdiday candles, and finally metaphysical specialty candles.
Catherine Yronwode: (transcribed by Nagasiva)
Figural candles came into commerce around the time that petroleum wax was developed.
You can make them out of beeswax, but there was no commercial trade in them.
There was the ability to carve beeswax. But it melts in heat. So there was no real market for decorative candles. When they came in they were called 'Novelty candles'.
We tend to think of them as unique to occult metaphysical shops, but they began of holiday candles primarily. In the 20s they became popular. Black cats, witches.
Egyptian motifs during the King Tut fad and craze. In the late 30s, there developed whipped air or the snowball technique. Snowmen became popular.
The candles were decorated with snow or dripping wax on them.
They were picked up by metaphysical candle burners almost immediately.
Over the years some became more popular within the occult shops like the nude man and nude woman (only sold in occult shops). First ones were labelled things like 'idol candle' or 'image candle' - they would show a picture: "We carry image candles." "Member candles" genital candles.
Not put out where you could see them. What color do you want? As time went on, those became more common. Along with them, some of the others were a snake going up a pillar (related to Voodoo). Some of these images aren't much used in hoodoo. The witch with the Welsh witch hat is still around, the crucifix candle. Candle shops could get their own moulds.
We now have companies that have their own moulds and make their own style candles. Grave crosses, in white and black. Then have a lying corpse on its back in the candle graveyard.
James: Got into candles by melting down old candles, and his mom got him a craft store wax melter, but it only had a shallow well.
James: Using crayolas as dye.
Cat: I have successfully done this; James prefers not. James used film canisters as mold. (I started with tommato paste cans.)
Catherine Yronwode: (transcribed by Nagasiva)
Used Crayola for dye on dipped candles. Not so great for can-type candles.
Contadina Tomato Paste cans; larger cans.
Small wooden bar. Row of dinner table chairs.
Up and down. Then the next and the next.
Flat pan that's hot on the stove.
Melt off the bottom edges as you go.
Different colors, carve them. They can be quite beautiful.
Rainbow style; yellow, orange, red, ... indigo blue. Rainbow candle.
One final seal to get all those layers even.
Colors are very vibrant. Non-descript color and go the last few dips into Crayola.
Cat arched, sometimes the tail is the wick. There's indications by how they
burn and figural candles are symbolic and oddly interpretable.
Using human figure candles as dolls
Destruction Oil, heat up pins to be red hot; red pepper powder.
Skull candles; pins/needles in eyes so they don't see you.
Apple, in the form with a lid, with 2 tiny Adam and Eve figures.
Dress and set the whole apple on fire.
Haven't been able to get them since COVID.
Divorce candles burned between the figures.
Bolivia imported. Form cast.
Where do these moulds come from?
Silicon moulds. Elaborate castings.
Pourette, 2-part hard-plastic rims on them and little sliders to hold them closed.
They were not the easiest thing to do in the world, cast upside-down.
Wax shrinks, even out the bottom so they'll stand nicely.
Pourette had thousand different moulds; they'd keep your moulds privately.
One day they disappeared. Implosion of the mould-candle world and then
an explosion of silicon.
Candle Mould Vault bought most of the mould materials.
They'd collected many and became somewhat of the supplier.
Everybody on eBay and Etsy has been offering moulds.
They were important in the making of moulds.
They made plaster masters.
Now we've entered the era of artisanal candles.
Green pyramid with eyeball on the side.
Pyramid on the dollar bill.
So much wax got skinnier and skinnier.
Went back to a shorter pyramid.
Cost of wax driven the changes in the figural candles.
What will i use it for?
Treasure candles.
Pilgrims, Santa Clauses, baby chicks.
Cut from bottom and load it

Free Spell from Reverend James:
Free Spell - A Candle Spell on a Judge for a Court Case:
You will need:
1 Brown Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil Monkeys Candle
3 Square piece of paper for petitions
Little John to Chew/Galangal
Sumac Berries
Poppy
Cascara Sagrada
Sugar
Court Case Oil
A fire safe plate, surface, or area
Before you begin bite a piece of Little John and begin to chew it.
Take your three petition papers and at the beginning of each you may start with using the judges name if you know it, “The Judge/Judge”, or “He/Him/His/You/Your/You’re”.
On the first you will write in the center “The Judge”, then turn the petition counter-clockwise and write three times a across it “Will hear no evidence against me”
On the second you will write in the center “The Judge”, then turn the petition counter-clockwise and write three times across it “Will not see any evidence against me”
On the third you will write in the center “The Judge”, then turn the petition counter-clockwise and write three times across it “Will speak no convicting sentence against me” or "Will speak no ruling against me".
Begin anointing each monkey with Court Case oil from top to bottom, while repeating your written petition.
Five spot each petition with court case oil then spit a little of the Little John in the center of each and place them under their respective monkey. “…hear no evidence…” under the first, “…not see any evidence…” under the second, and “…speak no convicting sentence…” under the third.
Take the sugar and make a clockwise circle about an inch or two around the candle.
Take your finger, lick it, and touch a spot on the circle, bring it to your tongue and say “as this sugar is sweet to me, so to will ‘The Judge/’s Name’ be sweet to me and favor me in the case” You will still be chewing the Little John root, so that some of the juice when you lick your finger and touch the sugar circle transfers to the circle.
Do this eight more times, going clockwise, with roughly equal distance between each spot.
When you finish making little divots in the sugar with your finger, go back to the first one you made and place pinch of Cascara Sagrada and Poppy seeds then place one sumac berry on the top. Again, continue clockwise and do this for each divot in the sugar.
Light the candle from left to right (There are three wicks) and keep an eye on it as it burns. If you’re adept at reading flames, smoke, and wax each monkey may provide insight into your upcoming case in regards to how the judge will react to what he hears and sees and how he will respond.
Once it is complete, scoop up the nine little mounds of herbs, and put them In your pocket (so as to give the appearance of pocket lint) or a mojo bag when you go to court and recite one of the following:
If false testimony is spoken against you: Psalm 120 - "I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.”
OR
In general: Psalm 35 - “Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.”
If you’re able to use a mojo or paper packet, also retrieve the petitions. Divide in your mouth the remaining Little John into roughly three equal pieces. Spit one piece into each petition and fold them away from you and place them into the mojo/packet and carry in your pocket (if a mojo) or your shoe (if a paper packet).
If you just have the herbs in your pocket, be sure to sprinkle some in the court room.
Cat: That went well, even though we had no chat.
