Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Are there any problems or consequences in conjuring spells while pregnant?
Does it help or hinder?
I am so curious as to how my baby will turn out being exposed to these energies in the womb.

While most people say it is a bad idea to cast spells while pregnant, some Catholics hold that it should be all right if you work with Jesus, Mary, the Saints, and the Angels. There is no one answer to this question.

I would personally recommend staying away from aggressive work of any kind, or crossing work while pregnant. Positive work for a safe and easy childbrth is the exception and should be fine, as long as you don't over-exert yourself energetically.

I agree with Devi. As long as you are doing positive work with a focus on the child's needs, you should be fine. But I probably wouldn't engage in any negative work just because you do not want those energies to affect your baby. In addition, you should cleanse and protect yourself, and your baby. Good luck on your pregnancy!

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
I am a professional conjure woman and I am pregnant
I take on all manner of cases but my specialties are love, court case, prosperity, blessing and cleansing.
However, I have worked break up and hot foot cases for my clients and I have worked them while pregnant with no adverse effects on me or the baby. A lot of people don't agree with that position, but I only take on work that I feel is justified and I have strong protection around both me and my child.
With that said, I would not recommend taking on any "edgy" work unless you are well seasoned in the tradition.
Blessings to you and your little one!

I wish I knew about this from before, because before I knew about this forum I was performing edgy spells during my pregnancy and I did attract some negativity after my pregnancy towards me mainly and other things I wasnt informed and just lacked knowledge.

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
So I have a 7 year old daughter who is INTENSELY interested in spellwork. Shes been begging me for years to teach her, and recently she was looking at my tarot cards and asking what each card meant. Now she knows that its not like on Wizards of Waverly Place (TV show,) but i've been kinda stuck as to how to approach it. I've always felt that it should be a personal choice and not something indoctrinated on you, but there is something to be said for a family tradition. And she IS asking to learn.
I guess what i'm asking is twofold; If you have taught kids (or if you were taught a a child) when did it start?
And how do you begin?

As a Mom, You will know when the time is right. No doubt, you are probably dressing her with King Solomon Wisdom and Crown of Success and Protection.
You will know when the time is right. You can introduce things slowly starting with Holy Water, Lucky Mojo Oils, Sachet Powders, Buckeye and a few other tips for the little ones. You know if your baby girl (or boy) is gifted... you just know. Just like you will know when the right time for introduction to divination will be.
Now, if your little one is asking questions about the cards...and more and shows and you know what your child has by way of a gift, you choose. There is no set rule book for this. Maturity is your best bet. You choose to release the information to the gifted one.
What age? It depends male or female? This is something that you are going to have to go with your gut on.
A Mother knows. A mother always knows.

I agree with Miss Tammie Lee...approach if asked and definitely consider maturity. I learned that my daughter put a spell on a little girl that was bothering her 20 years ago...and no I did not know. She was reading through some of my books and located a spell because the little girl was constantly bothering her...and she wanted her to leave her alone.. Now she is taking cat's course and learning on her own.

Some children display mystical abilities when very young. Often these abilities weaken once they are older. I completely support it, since the kiddie seems so interested. And like any parent you must teach her right and wrong, this is not a game etc etc. They will understand. And like all skills and talents. Such things are best when honed from a young age.

I totally agree....If someone is asking to learn, then go for it.
I homeschooled my kids, so I would find it exciting to teach my child about rootwork....Unfortunately neither of them were interested.

I agree with Miss Tammie Lee; maturity is the key. By all means answer her questions about Tarot.
If you are already doing blessing or protective rootwork in her behalf, let her take part in that work. Teach her about cleansing, too.
I homeschooled my own children, too, so I learned very quickly that questions = curriculum
Hope this helps,
Miss Michaele

I had a couple want me to education their young son in magical work. He showed a great deal of aptitude and natural skill. It comes down to maturity and what the child is capable of learning. Encourage curiosity, but don't overburden a child.

Let them watch, smell, touch, listen to your prayers. Then when the time comes, as mentioned by the wise mothers above, you teach them housework. The house should always be clean and in good order, cottage or castle alike, before starting anything magical. Then they - and you - will get the best foundation for good work.

I homeschool as well and a few of my children are pretty durn interested in Rootwork. I've always made books/conversation available and appropriate for their knowledge level, I plan to continue. Right now my 15 yo daughter is very much interested...she's also a bit of a beginning blues musician so I'm not surprised at all!

Wow we need a hoodoo homeschooling group. I think it is a judgment call that parents should make based on exposure to the marketplace of ideas in the fields of theology, theaology, anthropology, philosophy and the like. A solid grounding in sacred scriptures of many traditions but especially in the Judeo-Christian Bible is desirable. I have a daughter who is gobbling up books on Sufi mysticism and is a dedicated blues slide guitar player. She finds hoodoo work fascinating but is more interested in how it works and the theory underlying the system than in actually working conjure. Her path is hers and mine is mine. I am delighted to see other home schooling families it would appear that the old stereotypes are being discarded and that is wonderful. I support totally her independence and curiousity with the trust I have in the Divine will call her in the right time and place for her.

I'd like to start teaching my three-year-old granddaughter. She is a creative and imaginative child. The idea of a hoodoo school for kids sounds great.

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
I guess it comes down to the part that rootwork plays in your own life. It's sort of like any other habits or practices to some extent. There are things my mother did when I was a child that my father just called superstitious. It wasn't really a matter of teaching me rootwork, but... sort of like "don't split the pole" is something you don't do.
For instance, the use of ammonia is something I picked up from my mom because that's what she did. That said, basic cleansing and protective type things are okay, IMO, but don't need to be introduced or taught specifically as "magic". I guess I just feel that some customs are just that and don't need the mystical spin.
When my mom made brooms, they didn't call them magic or rootwork, but they stated the purpose of the brooms. I guess, from my perspective, introducing it as something they can relate to movies and TV shows makes it more of a hot topic (or even reason for playground gossip) and less of simply being a spiritual way of life. Smudging isn't called "magic"; it's called cleansing. Even if we call the terms one in the same, it makes a difference in how the children relate to these things. Adding ammonia to the wash water isn't exciting. Coming across cat's book on the other hand would be lol. I carried a mojo *long* before I even knew what that term meant. Every now and then people would recognize it for what it was, ask questions about it etc, and I always denied that it had anything to do with something as silly as "magic" or voodoo. Once a teacher even asked to have a peek inside of mine.
I've always been pretty closed lip about what I do as... well... matters like the ancestor's altar come up in Spanish class, for instance. "We have one, too!" my kids told their teacher lol.
My oldest has always been interested in my tarot cards, and I finally let him give them a go, interpreting them based on the images. He did fairly well, but the learning is only according to his interest. At the same time, just as with strangers on the street, I would guard what I know for the most part. As others have said, maturity is a huge part of it. However, when it comes to cleansing, praying and dressing... it's not something that's necessarily taught specifically as rootwork, as it's simply what I do. It's something that our children will just naturally pick up on their own if it's part of the way we live.
My children are still young, but I plan to give out any info on a *need* to know basis.. just as I would with topics like sex or anything else shrouded in controversy or with potential risk.

Well, if your work makes someone jealous or angry enough to curse the baby, that might have an effect -- if they have a gift for such mean work. So start protection work for yourself and your baby now.
Research edible herbs that are traditionally used for protection and see if they are medically safe for pregnant women. (Pennyroyal no, garlic yes.) Then you can include them in teas and in cooking, so the baby benefits as well as yourself.
I should think that pregnancy is the perfect time for Peaceful Home, safe childbirth, and other kinds of blessing work!
Good luck and good magic,
Miss Michaele

I discovered hoodoo while Iwas pregnant. I was extremely intuitive and powerful during this time. Just like a woman is most powerful during her menstrual cycle. But yes, protect your baby. I personally worked with Our.Lady of Guadalupe because she is ultimate mother. Ask for her assistance if you work with Saints and spirits. As mentioned above, avoid negative work you don't.want to deal with someone seeking revenge. Doing love work on myself was difficult at this time because I was sooo hormonal and it affected my energy. But look into that mojo hand by Miss Bri it's wonderful.

Protective foods? All I have to say is PESTO!!!! Here's a great protective pesto you can make:
- 2 cups fresh basil (keeps evil away and keeps the home happy)
- 1 cup mâche lettuce (or mixed greens)
- 3 large cloves garlic (protective)
- 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds
- 3/4 cup olive oil (pray your intentions into it prior to use)
Food process or blender everything to make a paste.

This is my opinion only. I am not quoting anyone.
I believe kids in any belief can have thier own designated practices. Sure, it can be based on the religions of parents. I also believe that adults become desensitized in many ways. There is much to be said for the wisdom of a child.
That being said, there are many great products and topics here at The Lucky Mojo Forum for your son.
Be Blessed!

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Hi magicianness, this is always a difficult balance. I am open, honest, and available to my daughter (who is 11) about my spiritual practices, but I am also open about other practices. When she asks religious questions that I don't have the answers for I try to get her resources. I would love for her to follow my spiritual path, but (in my opinion), we each have to find our own way. I have found the best way to get her engaged is to offer her choices, let her try out different things, and encourage her. There really isn't one right answer, just like all adults are individuals, all kids are too, but no doubt there are some things that would spark his interest or get in curious or asking questions.
Best of luck!
Best of luck!

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Hello everyone. This week with the waning moon I have been planning to do a mirror box for reversals on a woman who has done a spell on me ...and found out I am pregnant...this is negative work, but it is for protection. i was planning to do a cleansing afterwards with a hyssop bath ritual and also found out hyssop could be harmful in pregnancy (though this is obviously not ingestion, but a short pouring down over the head). just wanted to hear your thoughts on this.
Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Good Afternoon, Konstanta!
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !!!!!!!!
My only advice to you about the hyssop is to consult your physician.
Just tell him that it is a religious practice and you want to know if it's safe to pour this mixture on yourself.
In the event that your Physician is unsure, consult a Registered Pharmacist.
Take care of yourself and the precious life inside of you!!
Again, congrats!

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Hi Konstanta,
Internally, hyssop should be avoided during pregnancy because of its actions as an emmenagogue (encourages bleeding). The hyssop is only a problem topically if you are using the essential oil. Used as a diluted herb tea for use as a pouring bath there shouldn't be an issue unless you are allergic to the herb to begin with. Dilute one cup of the tea (made with 1 tsp of herb per cup of water) to 4 cups of water as maximum strength (you can dilute quite a bit more than that).
You can also speak to a doctor as suggested by Miss Aida, or to a professional herbalist (my suggested choice, but then I am an herbalist and thus somewhat biased in this regard
) for confirmation.
Blessings.

Cat, Miss Aida and Aura, thank you all so much for your help and suggestions, so sweet of you. Ok, will be asking about Hyssop to the doctor, and the tea dilution is great advice, as well as the suggestion to use the religious practice excuse - i was afraid it might be an awkward conversation at the doctor
I'm grateful you pointed me towards the suggestions about miscarriage prevention!

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Magiicianness,
There is not one answer to this question.
Spirituality is a vague term that describes a wide variety of perceptions, behaviours, rites, and customs relating to the non material or Spirit world. Much of it is culturally mediated, some of it is family oriented, and among some people, it is an individual practice or belief. How you view spirituality will no doubt affect the way you teach it to your child, in the role of a guide and parent.
Religions vary in their acceptance of child participation. In Baptist churches, little children are taught to pray but the age of consent must be reached before a child is baptized, while among the Catholics, infants are baptized and are full members of the church from the cradle. In some religions only adults are accepted, in others teens are admitted.
Magic, particularly folk magic, which we practice here, is generally a fairly obvious part of a culture's patterns of living, and although some aspects of it (for instance those areas dealing with mature sexuality) may be hidden from children, the more general cultural transmissions begin early, often from the mouth of a grandmother or auntie.
Gifts of prophecy and divination are also culturally mediated experiences, in that some cultures value them and others do not. They may have a partially genetic basis as well, for some families seem to carry a lineage of divinatory gifts, such as dreaming true, while others do not. Such gifts may manifest at a young age.

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
I can certainly relate with you. I also had prophetic dreams since I was very young. I also heard and saw spirits, which I must say it was very scary. However I grew up in a spiritual home and my mom would say that I had the gift, but my mom didn't really explain it to me well. Although, they were all basically spiritualist and I saw what they did it would freak me out. As I got older, I hated for my family to call me a little witch.
It wasn't until my youngest child was born that I fully accepted my gift. I was just 24 almost 25 and I had a vision of that I had to either accept the gift or allow my daughter who at the time was just 18 months old. I chose to accept it and work with my gift.
Since then I have introduced all three of my kids to my religious belief. I do allow them to make their decision on whether it not they follow my path. My two daughters have the gift, but my 9 year old seems to be more prone to seeing more or should I say clairvoyant. My son is interested in learning about magic and potions. He thinks that it's really cool.
Mind you my oldest is now 17, my son is 12, and my youngest is 9. They all see what I do and I don't hide it from them. My oldest tells her friend and is not at the least embarrassed. She can't wait until she can start doing magic. Every now and then I allow them to make their own spiritual baths, and when they have problems they ask for spiritual guidance. However, this is how I have chosen to raise them.

Miss Tammie lee is right. I think you just have to teach children in an age appropriate manner. As parents we are our children's shepherd. If this is your spiritual belief system, you have every right to teach it to your child. Sometimes people run into problems when their mate does not believe in what they do, and then a compromise is needed. I raised my child Christian, and I began practicing Haitian Vodou recently.
My 11 year old daughter is very interested in Vodou, so that is a family affair. When I started practicing Rootwork, she had no interest. Now she is interested in Traditional Witchcraft, and is under the guidance of a knowledgeable witch. She also has decided to follow the Greek deity path rather than Christianity. I am letting her find her way. Even though I really want to pass my tradition down to her, in the end, what I care about is that she has a belief system and honors it according to its tradition.
When my 4 year old niece wanted to work candles with me, I asked her parents, and they said it was fine. All three of their girls got to watch me work a candle and we all made Peaceful Home Powder together. It was fun. I think that no matter what age, you can expose them in a way that is on their level, and they will at least have that knowledge to grow from.

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Hi all,
I am looking to do a break up bottle spell but I do not know where to begin. I am pregnant with my boyfriend's baby and has cheated on me with several girls. He has told me about it but I will not see these women have satisfication over me and my unborn baby. I know nothing about these girls but the state they live in. Can I do a general break up jar with these women including him and state something like " all the women John Doe is cheating with"? I'm hoping doing this spell doesn't affect my pregnancy but I'm depressed just thinking about him with these women. I also have a pair of his underwear and socks but they are clean.

Hello, Faith_life,
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!
It is uncommon for a pregnant woman to perform a break-up spell. It is wiser to have someone else do it for you. The negative energy is not suitable for the baby, unless you feel completely justified and strong enough to undertake dark work.
You can cleanse yourself with hyssop afterwards. http://www.herb-magic.com/hyssop.html
You might want to just shower and use the hyssop water to pour over yourself (since you are with child)
If the clothes are cleaned, there's no DNA to work with.
Again, such work is not usually performed by pregnant women.
Hope this helps

Hello Faith_Life,
Of course I am not a doctor, but I do not see how creating a Break Up Vinegar Jar would affect your pregnancy on the physical level. Spirituality is another matter, of course. As Miss Aida mentioned if justified or if having a helper, you can work with vinegar jars. You can read up on them at this page (http://www.luckymojo.com/bottlespells.html)
Hope this is helpful
Peace~

Thank you. I didn't mean on medical aspect I was thinking more along the lines of not wanting anything bad to happen to my baby for doing that kind of work.

Faith_life,
Hahaha. Natstein is not a woman, so although he answered you from a practical viewpoint, he did NOT know what so many of us women DO know, and that is the belief that casting spells of any kind, and especially negative spells, can "mark the baby."
I was taught this by both of my grandmothers, by my mother, and by hundreds of women from other families and various cultures from all around the world, and i believe it to, so my advice is DON'T DO IT! I would never, never, never allow a client of mine who is pregnant to cast a negative spell, ever. It is just flat-out taboo and that is that.
Just my two cents.
Since your query involves a love relationship, see also this thread:

Good luck.

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
My daughter is 15 and has been watching me for many years 'do my thing', she has always asked questions and I let her discover things on her own when it comes to spirituality, religions, etc. She has shown an increase in interest in my workings this past year, and lo and behold she has seen her first spirit. This to me is the sign that she is ready. For her 16th birthday we will be traveling to New Orleans and do all the touristy stuff, haunted tours, spiritual shops, etc. I am looking for a reputable worker (back alley even) that can give her a reading and a spiritual supply store for her to choose a pendulum and/or tarot deck that speaks to her. (I would do it myself... but I will always be 'MOM' *sigh*) I have checked with A.I.R.R. and don't seem to see anyone in that area... can anyone make a recommendation? Also what specific items have you given for protection? Since it's her 16th I was thinking piercing her ears a second time and maybe small diamond earrings that have been dressed and blessed that I know she won't be taking off, or a pendant. While I would guide her in her own path, would you think that spending a year or so on protection and enhancing her gifts or just studying the tarot would be beneficial to limit her too or should I just turn her loose lol?
Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Hello, Oceanas Moon ,
Wow! That is so awesome!! Congrats!
I don't know who to recommend but you may want to look at this page and see if any of the subjects appeal to you:
hoodoo-in-history-hoodoo-in-the-news-f19.html
As far as protection, here is an entire page that Miss cat wrote. You can find spell, amulets, etc: www.luckymojo.com/protectionspells.html
I don't know if I would; "turn her loose". She's a little too young and needs guidance. Especially since she's encountered her first Spirit. You never know if this may open a floodgate. So, would certainly work on protection and control.
Anyway, just my thoughts....
Wishing the both of you a GREAT time in Louisiana and with her Vision Quest
take care

Don't think I'm at the right thread, but I can't seem to find a thread for my question.
Hoodoo is Christian based, how can I incorporate hoodoo to draw my husband closer to God. He never was a big devoted Christian but he at least did read his Bible and prayed. Since the beginning of this year he stopped reading his Bible and stopped praying. He is drinking every weekend not coming home, drinking and he is having an affair. I'm am doing work to stop the affair. But I'm wanting to do something to draw him closer to God. So that God can work with him.
Any and all suggestions are welcome
Blessed be

Hello, Determent,
I am so sorry that this is happening to you.
Try Psalm 32 and 23. Also, there are other Psalms to Cast off Evil. Psalm 37
http://readersandrootworkers.org/wiki/C ... _of_Psalms
Also, you may want to work with Cast off Evil products
www.luckymojo.com/castoffevil.html
I hope this works out for you.
Take care

Thank you Miss Aida.
Can I make 3 bottles, 1 for his drinking, 1 for his drug use ( don't think he is addicted, but I know he uses over weekends) and 1 to cast of this woman he is having the affair with. ( She is the root of the evil) while I burn a candle and washing his clothes etc as explained in the cast of evil link to draw him closer to God?
Blessed be.

Please read this thread from the beginning.
As you can see, it is not recommended to perform cursing or revenge spells while pregnant, but spells of blessing for the child to be are considered safe and even beneficial.

Cat- I see how serious your feelings are about spell casting during pregnancy. I'm 100% in agreeing HOWEVER, I don't know what is considered to be a bad or negative spell. Someone is causing grief during my pregnancy and I need to hotfoot them or a moving cut and clear spell. Is that considered negative work? I need them gone or at least hushed for the next 5mos.

Hello Hailey09,
Absolutely yes, doing Hot Foot work on someone is negative work. I'd advise you to hire a rootworker to do that work for you—you don't want that energy marking your baby.
You can find a reputable worker here:

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
Hi!
I'm really glad I stumbled upon this thread! I'm a bit at a loss. I am currently 18wks pregnant and had been considering doing a binding spell on my ex and his family (He is the father of my oldest child, not the current) to keep them from doing us all harm. I won't get into those details, but I have pursued all other avenues and have been unable to determine any other way to get them to stop. Is binding considered more negative or protection? And should I consider having someone else do it for me? It never even occurred to me that negative work could "mark" the baby. I definitely welcome advice.

Hello CheekyZauberin,
I think you could do protection work worry-free while pregnant, and I recommend you do so ASAP if you believe someone is out to harm you.
http://www.luckymojo.com/protectionspells.html
http://www.luckymojo.com/fierywall.html
And if we're talking about physical harm here, don't hesitate, just call the police.
Any work considered coercive or heavy I'd take to a professional. Here is a list of reputable workers:

Good luck!

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
My vivacious little sprite of a daughter loves to look at all my (our) spiritual things on and off the altar, and doesn't shy away from picking things up, sometimes carrying off the crystals and other little things, sometimes leaving her little toys settled among the other items. Just curious to get some feedback from some of you experienced practitioners. How do you feel about a child playing about the altar, touching things, taking things, leaving their own things there...is there any harm? Of course I am supervising closely anytime there is a lit candle going! Does a child's presence and play affect the work in any way?

Hi Leah,
Welcome to the forum. When you get a chance, and if you wish to do so, please introduce yourself in the Introductions thread.
As a rule, you do not want your altar interfered with, however playful and innocent the interference may be. Consider it sacred space that honors your spiritual court, and allowing interference is a form of disrespect to the spirits you call upon.
If there is no way to keep your child away from it, I would move it to a location where she can't get her tiny hands on it. If you can't physically move it, then perhaps a conversation with your daughter about the significance of the space is in order. If she's old enough to understand, explain to her why it's important that it not be touched.
I know it's hard when there are little ones afoot, but it's essential that your altar remains a place of respect and honor for the spirits you work with.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Re: Spell-Casting While Pregnant or Raising Children Questions and Answers
My only concerns about children and altars are
(1) fire safety,
(2) the possibility of consuming toxic or inedible herbs or roots,
(3) the possibility of breaking precious or valuable artifacts
If the altar has ancestral components, i figure those are the child's ancestors too. I am pretty pragmatic: if the child is too young or unskilled to handle makeup, art supplies, or kitchen tools and food preparation, he or she is too young to mess around at my altar.

My daughter witnessed me doing a freezer spell the other day and wanted to know all about it so I went step by step and showed her, explained the ethics of spell work and she helped me set out lights for our ancestors altar.
Thing is she's 13 and has a phone and I've caught her looking up questionable practitioners videos. she seems genuinely interested and I wanted to know if there's any books in Lucky Mojo's inventory recommended for her age range? Or for a beginner?
We have women's work, hoodoo bible magic, paper in my shoe and Ray malboroughs magical power of the saints and charms spells and formulas. Anything else I should add to our book shelf for her?

sillsosola,
What a great question. Thanks for asking. I think the books you have are wonderful. Two other titles i would add for a young person would be:
1) My book, "Hoodoo Herb and root Magic," because it introduces the idea of herbs and roots and spices (some of which can be picked along city streets or grown in a garden) and it contains a wide variety of simple combinations that will empower her to make her own small spells, and also to learn about botany and our natural world.
2) I also recommend "Hoodoo Spiritual Baths" by Aura Laforest to all newbies and to parents of younger people because baths are easy to make and use and they do not involve open flames.
